I want to become a radio deejay but I would like to play songs I like...? I've been wanting to deejay and do radio every since I was about 10 or 11 years old (I'm 24 now). I listen to the radio and it seems as though they play the same old songs over and over again. I understand that the program directors are in charge and they have a list of songs for the deejays to play....but to be honest, I don't consider this "deejaying". It's not original. When I say "playing songs I like", I mean like playing a certain genre for that certain radio station. For instance, if I was working at a station that only played classic soul R&B from 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s...Of course I would play singles. Songs that folks hear on the radio, songs that people are familiar with and songs that they love. But I would also want to look around and dig for songs that people has never heard of, discovering underrated artists, playing rare grooves, and songs that could've or should've been singles. I only know one deejay that plays what he wants and he's great. But the station he works for is a public radio station...but I still don't know for sure whether or not they would allow me to do that. My question to you all is...do you have to be an experienced deejay first (at clubs and formatted radio stations) before you get to play whatever you like on the air? I see this as an outlet because this is something that I really want to do.

Having trouble finding good songs like a good deejay i admire on the radio? Every friday night, i listen to a dj on the radio who has a show called "The Friday Night Sound clash"...It's a show where he plays like..soul, funk, latin-funk, afro beat, reggae, jazz and in all honesty, the show is probably the best thing i ever heard on radio. Not only do i think it, but the program director loves it as well. She said that the show was originally 2 hours, but she add another hour (making it 3 hrs) because the show was so great...and thats how good I want to be. Thing is, it's not commercial radio. It's public radio, so the dj plays a lot of underground songs..I try to be like him, but I realized that I will never be as good as him because i need to develop my own style and not make it seem so obvious that I'm a copycat. I've tried finding songs thats above average, and making a playlist that's above average and it's a lot harder than i thought. I want to be just like the dj i hear on the air, but its hard finding songs that are good like his or makin a playlist that is good as his. The question is...how can i be a good dj? How can i make people love my music? (without playing overplayed songs) Is it normal to not be so good at first, then work my way up? DJ Lavell Jones was born in St.Louis, MO...but spent part of his childhood in Japan where his father was serving with the US Air Force. At age 2, Jones developed a strange habit by standing in front of a steroe. He remembers hearing music coming from the speakers while he was still in his crib..so one day, he got out and just stood in front of the steroe. That was when he found his connection with music. Sadly, since most radio stations banned the sneakily suggestive tune, some revamping had to be done in the Spears camp. Deejays and radio stations across the country refused to play the tune that, when read phonetically, spells out something that is definitely not radio friendly. "If" = F, "You" = U ... you get the idea. To put it in context, here's part of the chorus: "All the boys and the girls are begging to If You Seek Amy."Caving to pressure, Spears has given up on her raunchy inside joke and the name of the tune is now "If You See Amy." While the dropping of the letter may appease those who were offended at the title and the song's suggestion, it should be noted that the chorus and lyrics now make even less sense than they did originally. i read this on the internet and i really want to know what 'it you seek amy' means and... why its so bad.

I was listening to a local radio station, and the Deejay was interviewing Karrine Stefans (Superhead), the video slut who had sex with dozens of rappers. During the interview, the Deejay solemnly asked about Lil' Wayne's mental state, and seemed genuinely concerned. She vaguely referenced a meeting/interview that she had with him, and she thought that he came across as a little off. Karrine Stefans said she understood and mentioned that there is a thin line between genius and insanity, and that when she was with Lil' Wayne, he crossed over that line several times. Techno Song from the 90s? Would you consider this older man (age 58) cool and popular with teens and young folks? 1. He's a broadcasting excecutive (used to be a deejay) 2. He used to host a radio show called "The Top 20 coutdown" back in the 80s (when he was in his 30s) (playing r&b, soul, disco) (took requests) 3. He went to college to studying music (wanted to be a music instructor, but was having problems with his music professor...he had thoughts of dropping out, but came across a radio station at school and ditched class to check it out). Need help finding the name & artist of a recent song? I've heard this song on the radio about 4 times and the deejays NEVER say who it is and this particular radio station doesn't have their playlist online to go find the song. It's a man singing. He kinda sounds like a cross between Jason Mraz and Michael Buble (it could even possibly be Mraz, but I really don't think it's Michael Buble). Paris Hilton can not perform live? I was listening to the radio about a month ago and one of the deejays said that one of the producers on Paris Hilton's album said that Paris would not be performing any of her songs live. He said that they had to layer her voice like five times just so it could be heard on the track. Will someone tell me this, if she can't sing loud enough or if her voice isn't strong enough, why is she singing? And is it me or does that "Stars are Blind" song sound like a Gwen Stefani knock off?

Help! What do you get an amazing guy? I have been dating this ultra sweet guy for almost two months now. I don't consider the relationship serious although I do think it will last for at least a year (hopefully longer). So far he has gotten me flowers, jewelry, stuffed animals, and has taken me to Disney World. I give him cards, which seems wildly inadequate for what he has given me. I have no clue what to get him in return. He's pre-law, likes music (he used to be a radio station deejay), and is into politics, geography and trivia. Does anyone know good Techno stations in the DC/MD/VA area? Hi I just got into Techno/House recently and have had a hard time finding ANY radio stations for the DC/MD/VA area (I live in MD). Also since I am new to this type of music im not exactly sure which subgenre I like the most so far groups like CASCADA, Effiel 65, Dirty Vegas, Benny Benassi, Zombie Nation, Tiesto and Alice Deejay have been enjoyable if that helps any. I also like techno remixes to popular songs....please help!!!

I heard this very cool song on the radio, I thought they were doing a remix with another song, but I later found out that they didn't. They had Alice Deejay's song called "Better Off Alone" playing in the background (no lyrics just the beat) and it had some rapper singing. ok...am I just paranoid? well...Ive been with my b/f for about a year and a half. Its a long distance relationship, and we dont get to see eachother very often. He lives in England, and I live in the US. anyway heres the thing. until recently he spent all the time that we could find together. talking on the phone; playing cards online; etc. we actually met because he was deejaying online radio and he quit because he said he would rather spend the time with me. about a month ago he started deejaying on Sundays again (sundays is the only day off we have guaranteed together) we fought over it several times and he told me that he was going to quit.
