Which area is the best area to live in Manhattan, New York City? I’m an artist & I can see my future is in NY; I love to move there. I am alone and I can manage to live even in a studio apartment or share with somebody and I can pay up to $2700 a month. I went true http://newyork.craigslist.org/ and some other websites; I looked at so many apartments in Manhattan but could not find even 1 nice apartment, studio or even a room to share. By nice accommodation I mean somewhere, which is quite new (max 10 years old building) and clean with out any pets or bad smell. As u know, Manhattan has so many different parts (except HARLEM) such as: Battery Park Chelsea Downtown East Village Financial District Flatiron Gramercy Greenwich Village Inwood / Wash Hts Lower East Side Midtown Midtown East Midtown West Murray Hill) Nolita SoHo TriBeCa Union Square Upper East Side Upper West Side West Village Which area has more new buildings, less crime and nicer neighborhoods? Or how can I find a nice accommodation in Manhattan? Tanx - Paris
Help me get back to New York City? I lived and worked in New York City for the winter of last year. I showed up for new years planning to go home, then got a call from my roommates telling me not to come back, so got stranded in the meanest city in the world with $80 to my name. I knew some people though and got a job waiting tables at a classy restaurant in Long Island, rented a room out there for $500 mo and ate all my meals at the restaurant for free. I eventually got a gig bussing/food running in SoHo but left it after a lucrative opportunity to work with the US Forest Service as a paid firefighter. I left New York City planning to come back after the season. THAT WAS THE WORSE MISTAKE EVER. I never should have left the city, it's so hard to get back in once you get out, as I've learned first hand. Now I've got a job at another friend's restaurant set up out there and I've even got almost 14k in savings, but I've got no place to live, and no credit (not to mention my significant other will be living with me, so renting a room won't do). I've been scouring Craigslist for apartments/studios in Brooklyn but even though I've got a decent chunk of savings, I know that city is a bottomless pit for eating through cash. I'm basically out of bright ideas. Here's what I need to know: 1. Where to rent and not get shot (ie not the Bronx, anything but the Bronx) 2. How much money do professional waiters in New York City actually make in the summer (under the table/not), seeing as my only real experience is with Long Island. I've heard some waiters claim they made up to 4k a month sometimes but somehow I doubt that. 3. Anything I haven't thought of yet Please help me get back to the City!

moving to new york city? hey everyone, ok, so the time is soon that I will grad. from school, and will soon start college. So I now need to start looking for me an apartment in manhattan. ok, so i will either be going to NYU, Pace University, or City University of New York. Now, I really, really want to be in the city and not anywhere like Brooklyn, queens, bronx and etc. But if it came to it, I would move to brooklyn, queens, or harlem. Ok, now I have a maximum rent payment of $1,500.00. So, do you think I will be able to find an ok sized studio in Manhattan at that price. Will craigslist have some stuff in my price range? What do you all suggest? Do you think I will be better off coming to new york and looking for something myself than on the internet?? All advice is accepted. Also, how much money should I bring when I move. So far, I have $4,800.00 saved up, and my dad will give me like an extra $1,500.00 or so. Thanks you all!!!
Moving To New York CITY!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!? I am 25 year old single mother relocating from Orlando to New York City. I will be xfering my job up there, I also have an internship and a better opportunity to become a publicist or work in public relations. There are so many reasons why NYC would not only be better for me and my career, but for my daughter being closer to her father. I am not only bored with Orlando, but i think Orlando is making me lazy and i'm starting to slip into a state of nothingness, where all i do is work and come home. I love the diverse culture of NYC, the only thing i am a little weary about is the cost of living. Where can i find a reasonably price apartment to rent. (Not Craigslist- has too many scam artist claiming to have CENTRAL PARK apartments for 700 a month.) I have a car also. Has anybody made a transition from somewhere rural to the big city? What steps should i take?
Safe place to live in New York City? Safe place to live in New York City? I want to move to new york city. I'm 20, not a partier, and I want to live somewhere where the risk of crime is low. My budget for rent is 0 - $700, I don't even mind living with a roommate or renting a bedroom. I'm trying to get somewhere in life, and NYC is the best place. (This is not a classified lol, but I'd like to move there by march 2011). I've been on craigslist and other sites, but I also want feeback from the public. Thanks :) - martin
Bartending in New York City (manhattan)? Hi there, my twin brother, my friend and I are moving to New York City in September of 2011. We have an apartment picked out in Manhattan where we are going to stay, and are getting ready to move. The only thing is, my brother and I need to find a job. We are going to be 18 when we go out there, and are hoping to both find a bartending job. Is this realistic? We are both good looking and have a great work ethic and excellent people skills and personalities. We have been looking at craigslist and searching like crazy online all about bartending and bartending jobs available and it seems like there are a lot of openings as there are many bars/clubs/hotels in NYC. We were thinking about taking bartending class, or mixology classes, but have heard that a lot of places won't hire you and even laugh at you if they see that on your resume. What is your best advice for us? And do you believe it is realistic to find a bartending job within a month or two of living there? Any advice and answers will be appreciated. We currently live in Ohio, and are very tired of living here in the country. We visit NYC quite often and love it there, we also have family in Manhattan. By the way, in case you don't know, the age for bartending in NY is 18. Also, what is the average income of a Manhattan Bartender? From our research we have learned that the average weekday income is 200-300 and weekends 300+...Is this correct? How high can it be? Any personal experience? Thank you!
hello, im going to be moving to new york city/manhattan, how do i figure out the ins/outs/driving in nyc? hello, im going to be moving up to new york city/manhattan for business etc. i have to find an apartment and figure out how to navigate ie. transportation and the ins/outs of the city. ive never been to new york! i dont know the decent hood from the bad hoods, how do i know where to go and not too go? does everyone take the subway? i would rather drive and be in traffic as my business activity will be in the evening to the late night/am hours, not during normal 9 to 5hrs etc. ive looked at apartments in manhattan and queens that range from 7,000.00 a month to 800.00 month, how do i know where to live and not too live? the city is so huge and diverse, the borroughs as they call them are different, i dont want to go up there lost and behind.. does anyone have any advice? whats the best way to locate an apartment up there? i was looking on craigslist and they arent called apartments, theyre called coops? how do i stay know whats ghetto whats not up there? i need a gym, and i want to drive myself, is this possible to drive my own wheels up thier in all that traffic? any advice is appreciated! thanks!
How to plan a move to New York City? I'm 19 and an aspiring singer/songwriter. After I finish some school I plan on moving to new york city to pursue my dream for a few years. My parents are allowing me to stay here as long as I pay for my insurance/phone/etc. so I should be able to put a considerably decent sum of money away. I currently work at a gas station and make about $800 a month and im going to start saving $100 a week. I understand with this job, I'm not going to get enough to move comfortably in 4-6 years. My parents know 2 people[one a good friend and high up in the company] that work at a general tire plant. A guy i've been talking to says he gets no less than $800 a week, and $3200 a month. If I could land this job, even at just $15[It may be 20 but I'm using this as a lower guess.] an hour, $15 x 8 x 5 x 4 = $2,400 x 12 = 28,800 x 4 = $115,200 x .30 - [<.30] = $80,640 - 14,440[to my insurance/etc for 4 years] = Grand total >>$66,200<< The company from what I hear, also pays for your schooling, I just don't know how much of it lol. I didn't include gas/etc but i usually use 10-20 a week for 40 every 2 weeks for food but I'm trying to cut that down so I'd say by the end it'd be around $40,000 by the time i'm ready to leave if I don't go crazy buying things, plus I'll prolly stay 2 more years cause my gf and her schooling so theirs a chance If I didn't spend a tremendous load of that money I could have atleast $50-60k if my parents allow me to stay here till then[which both have told me that they don't care as long as I pick up after myself and pay my stuff]. My gf will also be getting a job somewhere so we'll have that saved aswell. I'm going to buy a new laptop, a new acoustic, and the best interface/microphones/etc. I can get before moving so take out about $7000 for all that. We're going to take a weekend to visit a few months before we plan the move, and find out about any jobs hiring/etc. After that, we're going to continue looking on craigslist and get interviews lined up and then pack up and leave. Together if we can save $40-$50k, both having bachelors[mine in possibly Architecture, Interior Design, or Urban Planning. and hers in English.] will it be alright to move up their for a few years and pursue songwriting? She want's to be a writer and is going to pursue that. What else do I need to look at? Another reason why I want to is because I haven't really lived much lol, don't have a lot of stories to tell, and I think going to a fast moving city like new york city and pursuing a dream could open a lot of opportunities for some lol. I don't want to live their forever, just for a few years lol. Would love to settle down in Alaska haha, I visited a few years back and fell in love with it.
Where should i stay in new york city.? Hi All, I'm from Minnesota and will be moving to New york city as I got a job there. I have no idea where to start searching. Can you please give me some guidelines as to where I should begin my search. Some extra info. My company is located in downtown (near Times square). I'm willing to commute daily by metro train if I need to stay a bit far away for getting good and cheap housing :P Also, I'm single and might want to look for room-mates. Is craigslist a reliable place to start my search? Thanks. I will be making around 90K and I'm single (if that helps). Thank you correcting me. I remembered the cab driver saying Times square is downtown :-/
Can cheap apartments still be found in New York City? Hi all, I am looking for a apartment in New York City. I would like to live in either Queens (Forest Hills, Astoria, Rego Park or Sunnyside) or Brooklyn (Park Slope, Sunset Park, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Cobble Hill, or Caroll Gardens). Can anyone let me know of any resources to help me look for one? (Other than craigslist???) I would rather not go the broker route if I don't have too. Right now I am looking to spend anywhere from $800-$1,100 a month on rent and utlities. I am looking for either a one bedroom apartment or a large studio. Let me know! Thanks! :)
How/Where do I find cheap apartments in the New York City Area? Hi everyone... Me and my girlfriend are looking for an apartment in or around the New York City Area. We're hoping to spend no more then $900 a month on rent + utilities. 1-2 Roommates are OK but we're hoping to find a basement apartment or small studio. Looking for anywhere in or around the Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan area. Also, she has very little credit history and I have a poor credit history (due to heavy school loans - I went to an IV league) but we are both financially stable and will have no problem paying rent on time. My questions are: How/Where do I find apartments priced at that range in the specified area? (I've tried Craigslist and the Village Voice extensively but 90% turned out to be scams from Nigeria) and... How do I convey to a prospective landlord that we will definitely be able to pay our rent on time despite her lack of credit and my poor credit rating? Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated, best answer gets my vote! :) Thank you in advance.

Are "Free oil tank removal" ads on Craigslist legit? I have an old above ground oil tank in my basement, along with an old oil burner and oil hot water heater, and a washer/dryer. The oil tank is empty, except maybe for some sediment and/or sludge at the bottom. I am converting to natural gas heat. I want to save as much money as I can. I saw a few ads on Craigslist (New York City-area) for guys saying they'd take all of this junk away for free. Are these ads legit? Can these guys be trusted to remove the oil tank safely? Will they just cut up all the pipes that connect everything and leave me with major plumbing repairs? How do they prevent any possible leaks of sludge and/or sediment? Has anyone used one of these guys? Any details on your own experience with these kinds of guys would be really appreciated and helpful. Thanks!
Best place to stay in New York City? Do you know of any websites, besides craigslist, where I can find vacation rentals, or mid-priced hotels. I want something nice, but reasonably priced. Around $200.
Finding a good apartment "affordably" in New York City: What are the new secrets? Here's the thing. I've spent literally hours with the Times and The Daily News real estate sections online. I have run every scenario imaginable in both rentals and sales and the results are abysmally depressing...and I'm not just talking about the city. When I moved the search into Jersey and CT, things improved, but not enough to justify the commute. It seems like the right combination of decent neighborhood, convenience, large enough apartment/house/whatever (I have a family), well-kept, and BROADLY AFFORDABLE (I hope you know what I mean by this) just seems not to exist. I am beginning to get the distinct impression that as I've moved into middle age, I'm behind the curve somehow, and there is a new way this is done that I am just not in the know about. Craigslist is not a good answer as it's full of more scams than real apartments and it's almost impossible without clicking on every listing to separate actual unfurnished rentals from shares. Nofeerentalbyowner.com is a very good site but they have no pictures so there is no way to judge if the units are really worth the good prices at which they rent them. I've heard a few people, most on sitcoms and such making the claim questionable, claim that the obits are a good place to look, but I've never seen one actually list the address of the deceased (can you imagine?: Mr. Peters leaves behind a wife, four children, and a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom, pre-war second story walk-up in Park Slope which rents for approximately $1450 per month. For information please go to (&)* 7th Avenue and ask for Vito). Someone tell me something really innovative, a very well-kept secret, that others know and I don't. This cannot really be the market. Thanks. Can you recommend one?
If I go for a trip to New York City but don't know anyone there, what are best ways to find acquaintances? I'm a 20 year old Australian and I plan to go to for a trip to New York next year and because I don't know anyone there, what are the best ways I can find acquaintances so that I can do activities (especially going to restaurants and maybe nightclubs) with? Ideally, I would like to get into contact with people first before I go there, so that I have something planned and to look forward to, without the risk of arriving there feeling 'stuck'. Also, would sites such as Craigslist, Gumtree, etc. be a safe option or not?
Where to look for a July-Sept sub-let room to rent in New York City in 2011? Hello, I am an 22 year old, English male looking for advice on where i could find a suitable place to stay for the 3 months that i will be living in New York from July - September, 2011. Ideally, i'm looking to sub-let someone's room in a house share but i don't even know where i would start looking. I've been told craigslist but would like to get it sooner rather than later to ease my peace of mind and i'm not sure many plan this far in advance to let their property. Are there any other options or ideas that i could try? I'll be on a work placement at a Graphic Design agency on 6th Avenue for the entire time i'm here, so i'm not really after a full on tourist place to stay. Thanks for your time and i hope you can help! :) Joe
New York City Bartending? I recently moved to NY from California and am lookin to break into bratending here. I've barbacked before, and am currently on call at a bar in Alphabet City, but they have little use for me as of lately. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips, suggestions or references to help get me started/ Do you know of any place hiring? Also, I went around Alphabet City dropping off my resume, and have been avidly applying to ads on craigslist, but am wondering if there are any other sites that might help me out, or another approach I should take to this. I've looked around, but a lot of sites tend to be spam. Thank you!
Moving to New York City? I have no idea where to start! I am planning a two-week trip to NYC for interviews and apartment hunting. I'll be staying with a college acquaintance (she lives in Hoboken, New Jersey). Mk, so first- flying in. I'm from Ohio, and I'm guessing I fly into JFK? Are there other airports with better deals on flights, or that I might want to avoid like the plague? As for apartment hunting.. my job will be with magazine publishing companies such as Conde Nast and Hearst, so I would like to be in an affordable area (meaning rent $1000 a month or less) where I can get to these places without too much trouble. Any ideas? I will probably utilize Craigslist, but what other ways are there to find good apartments? I think that might be all.. any other general tips? I really appreciate ANY help:D It's pretty daunting! I guess I should have mentioned I'm 22, and a roommate would be ideal:D
Do you know of a good place to buy second hand cameras in New York City? I am going there in April and I'd like to buy one. I've seen Craigslist but I would like something like a shop. I am looking for something like a 50D with a lens or two.
New York City rentals? I am looking for warehouse rentals in NYC to use as artist studio space. Other than craigslist - any recommendations? Where is cheap whse space around a $1/s.f. range for spaces up to about 2000 s.f.? Either spaces are way too small for the $ or way too large!
Nineteen Year Old Student Homeless in New York City, Need Advice + Help? I moved to the city last January. My school (in the CUNY system) did not have enough dorms and told me I had to find my own housing. I come from a middle class family but my parents don't have any money to help me, so I've been living off of my own lifesavings and hard work. I ended up being a nanny of a 7 year old in exchange for a bed in a living room of an apartment. Three months later the mother, who was a bit of a nut job, threw me out without provocation. Before anyone says: "get a job," I would like to say that I have tried. I have gotten 3 different jobs, 2 of which didn't pay me my due wages and one which was part time and short period. Many applications I have filed-- despite going to a top school, getting good grades, and being a smart and adept person, have been left ignored and unanswered. I was "hired"-- in their words-- by an investment company, but then they decided to forget about me and e-mail me that the position might not be available at all...or might be... So it's hard trying to get a job when no one seems to be functioning on a normal basis! I have not had my own key or bed for 6 months. I have not had my own room for 9 months. This is taking an extreme mental and physical toll on me. I'm down to the last of my money (what an elite Manhattanite could pay their lunch with!) and practically starving, but I'm not willing to forfeit my academic goals. It's difficult to form friendships and keep myself safe, too. I have been able to keep myself off the street by answering ads on Craigslist, but its a tough bargain because most people end up being perverts or don't follow through--and think that I would exchange sex for a roof over my head, which is totally against my morals. It's not the kind of life I want to live or intended to live. I have high hopes and dreams of attending Columbia University, majoring in my field, but I can barely focus on my school work when I'm too busy trying to figure out where I'm spending the night! If you know any resources or are a person who would be willing to do a work exchange (I do have references, resumes, etc)... this would be an excellent opportunity to touch my life. I can post a contact e-mail, but want to remain anonymous until something arises. Thank you! *if anyone doesn't realize, I am a girl. Obviously I am not leaving New York, seeing as I have excellent grades, attending a top school, studying a major field which is not offered in 90% of schools and writing a novel. You can either offer real advice (as in, pertaining to my actual question and not telling me to move away) or you can simply not answer. Useful answers are more helpful than dead-ends. ;)
How I do a collect a judgment in New York City if I don't have any bank or employer information on the person? A year ago, I went to see an apartment that was posted as available in CraigsList...I gave a deposit and 1st months Rent to only find out the landlord wasn't really the landlord, she was a tenant, with the key to the basement apartment and showed off the apartment to people to steal their money. She conned me and never returned the money. I went to small claims court and won the judgment and was told to collect by either a Sheriff or City Marshall, they require me to give them either the debtor's bank information or employer information but how do they expect me to find that out? All I have is the person's full name and address of where they live? What other option is there for me or is this a lost case?
Where can I look online for arts jobs in New York City?? I am relocating to NYC and I am looking for work in the arts (specifically music, but I'm open to other arts fields as well)...I have a background in Classical Music (Piano, Composition) and I have experience working in Music Business and Arts Administration. I already frequently check the NYFA site, Craigslist, Backpage, and Indeed (in addition to the usual monster, hotjobs, careerbuilder, etc)...Can anyone tell me of any sites, maybe local ones?...that are good for searching for arts jobs in the city? Thanks so much!!!
How in the HECK can I find winter work in New York City? Look, I just got into town, I'm a Wildland Firefighter just trying to hold out until next fire season and I need a job. I've tried craigslist but got scammed for $80 on a fake job offer, luckily it wasn't more. I have experience ranging from teaching swim lessons to kids to hosting in a restaurant to manual labor but it seems like NOTHING is hiring anywhere. The biggest city in the world and you're telling me there's not one job opening out there? I'm just getting really discouraged and even scared. I'm from Cali, I don't know anything about living and working in NYC. Anyone got any advice or personal experience stories to share with me? How did you find a job in NYC?
LOOKING FOR: Apartment in Park Slope in Brooklyn... Brokers? Ideas? New York City? My wife and I might be moving to Brooklyn from Denver and we are curious where we could find some quality apartment brokers. We have looked at craigslist and the voice, but would like some other options. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
HELP! I need to find an internship in the new york area!? How can i find internships in the new york city or long island area. Craigslist does not help me because none of the companies respond back. HELP! I need this to graduate high school.
How do I move to New York City? I'm looking on Craigslist for roommates and housing but don't know where to start. I want to pursue a career in magazines, many of which are located in Manhattan. Does it matter which borough I live in? I've only been to NYC twice, so any and all help will be appreciated! I have about $1500-2000 in savings to move.. and will *hopefully* be picking up some kind of day/night job while hunting for my career job. I'm from Ohio.. how do I just visit for two weeks to check it out? I'm not trying to spend all my money before moving lol.. Please stop telling me about the industry.. I went to school for it and I am confident in my abilities. I know the state of the industry, thanks:D A lot of people are having trouble finding jobs regardless of what they are looking to do. So let's just count that part out for now, k?
How do you rent an apartment in New York City with no so perfect credit? I make over 80K a year but my credit is bad due to this terrible economy. I had great credit up until 2008 when I lost my job and in turn I had a financial down slide. I had a rocky time getting back up on my feet but now, I make great money and I am back stable but no one will give me a chance. They all put so much emphasis on credit but with this economy, why are they not being understanding? I don't have any evictions and I've paid my rent on time but they are only looking at my credit score and not caring about anything else. I'm sure there are people living in apartments in NY that don't have stellar credit but I don't know how they are getting them. I have checked craigslist and have had no luck. I live in Harlem with a roommate but I want our own apartment and I want to stay close to my son's school. Does anyone know of a realtor or personal landlord who is lenient in NYC? Not trying to make anyone feel sorry for me at all. I created the bills and I am paying them now. But when I got laid off and that was not my fault and I could not pay my bills. I hope that you never hit hard times ever in your life but if you do, Lord help you.
What is the cheapest but still most professional cleaning service in New York City? I want to have someone come once a month, but I dont want to use a random craigslist service. I have used them before, they are very hit or miss, and do not bring their own supplies. Has anyone ever used a service that they like and felt safe about? Matt Well Bob, thats very easy for you to say, lemme guess you sit on your ass all day and answer questions on Yahoo answers. I work and make money so I can afford a cleaning service...
where are good places to buy a shih tzu puppy in or near New York City and North Jersy? Ok, before people start we have tried shelters, we have been to the ASPCA countless times, we have contacted local shelters, searched petfinder.com, adopt-a-pet.com, craigslist and shih tzu rescues as far away as ohio. we just adopted a kitten from our local shelter. but while you can walk in and get a cat it seems that with dogs unless i want a pitbull or pitbull mix i wont find anything right now. plus i was insulted by the last rescue saying they we were bad parents because our 10 week old kitten is not fixed (nevermind the vet WONT do it because he is 10 week old)... so yeah, places to buy a shih tzu puppy (NOT tea cups) in the NYC area. as stated, i have already been to the ASPCA, MUST be good with kids, we dont have any, but all of our friends have at least one child. a puppy under one year of age is ideal. yes s/he must be good with cats and other dogs. zip is 10001
Need somewhere cheap to stay in New York (or area) for 3-4 months. Suggestions? I plan on doing an internship in New York City-area for 3-4 starting at the end of May and will be there, more than likely, until the end of August. I need somewhere to stay, but can only go $650/month max. Is this even possible? What are some areas relatively close? Other suggestions? I already looked into hostels and it's just not cost-efficient for me. I tried looking on Craigslist for temporary housing/sublets but it's too early to get a good idea.
Why are there so many racists on yahoo answers? I mean they get banned everyday and still come back can't these people get a life. There are racists of all colors on here, this is only rivaled by the New York City Craigslist Rants and Raves page.
Is there a way to check all of Craigslist 'For Sale' pages without going through individual city listings? I collect a particular item, and have found such on Craigslist- is there a way to do a wide search on Craigstlist without having to visit individual craigslist sites? is there a way to bring up items for sale on Craigslist in New York, los Angeles, Chicago, etc all at the same time?
Which area to find an Apartment in New York and bring our cars or not? We are going to relocate to New York. The work area will be around City Colledge of New York and Comlumbia University. Anyone has any suggestions about which area to rent for an affordable apartment? Nearby or about 30 minutes commute one-way are both ok, I tried Craigslist but get very confused about the location names ... Also, shall we bring our cars to New York? We have two now. Shall we bring one or none of them? Just a bit not sure whether it is ok to go to work or buy grocery without a car... Thanks a lot! By affordable I mean about $2000 per month for a one-bedroom. Now I am giving up the idea to bring our cars with us:-) Thanks a lot!
Chicago/New York Apartments on Craigslist - why are there so many so cheap? What's the catch? I'm looking to move to one of those two cities and there are all these apartments listed on Craigslist that are REALLY inexpensive. From anyone who might know, what's the catch?
people in new york how do u people make it? this question is for the people who reside in new york city and its 5 boroughs . how do u people made it? new york is high as hell and what u living in is a dump. i was trying to move there but everything is over price and looks a complete mess. are there even any jobs in new york that r hiring? i was on craigslist and people are charging a arm and a leg for a room in there funky ass house that looks nasty. the studios are tiny and too much. i wanted to move to new york to be an actress but need a job to survive . so what are some suggestions? i really want to move to new york. currently living in houston where it the cost of living is very cheap.

Finding Spiritual roommates in New York? Namaste, New Yorkers... I'm moving to New York city in a few weeks to be a Raw lifestyle coach / raw vegan chef / nutritionist / personal trainer / etc.... I just got my certifications and I've been preparing branding and logos and marketing plans and all the rest of it for the past couple weeks here in Atlanta. Here's the thing... I don't know hardly anyone in Brooklyn! And I especially don't know any other raw vegans, yogis, conscious people, or spiritualists. I want to find roommates that at least have similar lifestyles.... I'm generally a fun, creative person, but I don't think the typical New Yorker would quite sympathize with morning chanting or their roommate drinking algae or growing Kombucha fungus in the fridge unless they were of certain "alternative" inclinations themselves. Not to mention, I'd rather not deal with the vibes of drinkers/smokers or non-organic chemicals and such that most people keep in their homes.. So I'm asking this question in the hopes that someone here knows someone in Brooklyn, preferably a vegan, yogi, hippie, spiritualist, whatever, who is looking for a roommate! Or, if anyone knows of anywhere else I should look (craigslist and most roommate-finding sites don't allow for much specificity...) Please let me know. Here's to intention! :-) Thanks
How can I avoid housing scams on craigslist? What should I be wary of ? I need a shared room in New York City to attend a graduate program and I've noticed that several of the postings are scams. Thanks in advance.
Where can I find online listings for local jobs other than craigslist? I'm specifically looking for listings in the New York City area, preferably Queens. *Note: I'm looking specifically for online listings. *Note: I'm looking specifically for online listings.

Why is rent so cheap in Buffalo New York? It looks like a nice city with cool weather. I looked online and it said the average house goes for $100,000!!! That is so cheap. I was looking on Craigslist and was finding three bedoom apartments for around $500. That is amazing. What's the deal?

Is Craigslist okay to use? I'm looking for an apartment in New York City (I don't currently live there) on Craigslist. What are some things I need to watch out for to avoid being scammed?
low income housing in new york? I am trying to move into an apartment in Brooklyn , or Manhattan, you always hear about these low income housing, but it seems impossible for me to find them. Does anyone have any legit sites or directories that actually help you to get into a decent apartment in the city, or any info at all if you know someone who is renting out their apartment. I didnt think it would be this hard trying to start out living independently. I tried craigslist.org, but there are people who stay by the computer all day, to the point it is always too late when you try to respond to the listings because 100 people already beat you to it.
buy or rent used car for a USA nationwide trip? i am planning to go on a trip around the USA in july/august and i was thinking about renting or buying a used car. i want it to be the cheapest ever :) so i don't want to spend more than $1200 and i would like to sell it at the end of the trip. i would arrive from Spain to New York city. 1) is it possible to buy a used car even if being a foreigner? do i need some special documents? 2) do you recommend buying o renting? which is more economical? 3)if buying, where would you recommend me to look? in location or by web site. 4)is it better to buy once outside NYC (economical)? where would it be a good place to buy? 5) i looked on craigslist and some cars cost like $40 or less, what is the swindle? 6)which type of car would you recommend? one that doesn't consume a lot of fuel. Diesel, gasoline? 7) do you know anyone who has travelled that way? thanks a lot!
How can I get an affordable room/apartment in NYC for 3 months? I want to spend two to three months in New York City next year (starting April) and would like to know whether you know where to find accomodation. Since I am German I guess this whole credit check that people have to go through to get a (furnished) apartment could be a bit difficult. I also don't want to pay tons of money for a real estate agent, when I only intend to stay for such a short period of time. I already looked at Craigslist, but there are only very short term apartments available.

Photoghraphy Internship in New York? I've recently moved to NYC and am an aspiring photographer. I thought I'd try to find work assisting photographers, but no one seems to want to hire me without having assisted here in new york. Desperately wanting to get in the game and at least be exposed to the industry and meet people, I've decided to try to find an internship here in NYC and have answered some ads here on craigslist, but havent gotten any response, figuring about a hundred other people have applied for the same position. My question is....anyone know how I can get a photography internship here in NYC besides just looking at craigslist? Or any ideas how I can get into the industry here? I like this city but am finding it quite a hard place to get my foot in the door. Thanks a lot! :)
Would it be a good idea to take a random road trip to NYC from New Orleans since I don't have a place to stay? Okay, here's the story: I'm a college senior living in New Orleans, and my Houston parents made it kind of clear that they don't want me back at home (I don't want to go home either.) Anyway, I rented a place at a hostel for the next four days, but I'm not too sure where I'm going to be able to stay after that. So I was on Craigslist, thinking of my options, and there was this girl who was offering to take someone along with her when she was going back home to North Jersey. Do you think it could be a good idea to call her and just go to New York City? :) Perhaps it could be a fun experience! ))) I don't really know what I'd do once I got to NYC though...do you know of anyone there who feels hospitable this Christmas? :) (or Hannukah!! I know there are nice New York Jewish people reading this!!!)
Where (besides Craigslist) can I sell my dj equiptment? ? Are there any second stores left in New York City?
How can I get lots of people to come to a show in NYC? I run various shows at different venues in New York City, including comedy and music shows. I have no problem getting great talent, but I'd like to build up more of an audience at the shows. I'd rather not send people out of the street with flyers and stuff, and craigslist event postings don't usually help much. Does anyone have any new or interesting ideas for attracting an audience to a show in New York City?

I have No Idea How To Meet Other Lesbians? I am originally from New York City and I moved to Virginia with my girlfriend. So far I have not found any other lesbians anywhere. I am close to DC and there are areas there like in NY but where I live, there seems to be no bars or clubs or gay/lesbian hangouts. Where do I go besides Craigslist to meet other lesbians who arent going to ask for a 3sum with their boyfriend and just want to hang out and make new friends? I miss NY so much!
Which is the biggest or best of the craiglist site to advertise on? I want to advertise something on craigslist and I want as much exposure as possible -- national exposure if possible. I can't list on all of the individual city sites. What is the best thing to do? List it on the "New York" version of craigslist? Or the "San Francisco" version? They don't have a "national" version, do they? What's the best thing to do.
Europe's China's Or Japan's Craigslist? Hi, I am running a hotel in New York and I was wondering if anyone knows a website that has huge traffic just like Craigslist where I can post ad. I know Craigslist has international city pages as well, but think there are more resources out there on the web. Many thanks.
Looking for English Language Expat info in Tokyo, Japan? I recently relocated to Tokyo, Japan from New York city and I have been trying to find English language web resources similar to what I used on a regular basis in New York. I often used craigslist to find activities and for online dating in New York and haven't been able to find a similar English language site with a large user base in Tokyo. I've found sites but they have very small user bases. What I am looking for is where on the web I can connect with the English speaking expat community to meet people, find dates, find a sports team/league similar to www.zogsports.com, find a running group similar to New York Road Runners http://www.nyrrc.org/ and where I can find classified ads for things like buying a used bicycle.
How much is a 1 or 2 bedroom in New York City? I'm looking into moving to New York City and have been looking at apartments on craigslist.org. So far it looks like apartments are usually around $850-$1300 around Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Harlem. Is this a realistic price or should it be higher? Where else can I look for apartments, as in what cities, and websites? Also, just curious, Is Harlem part of Manhattan?
Are there any other sites besides craigslists that have a good size list of apartment listings? I am looking for an apartment in the Brooklyn area of New York City, but am very tired of craigslist, Please share any other FREE sites that I can search for an apartment, emphasis on FREE site listings. I am not looking for a sublet.com or rdny.com where you are charged a fee just to look at their database.
I have no tech knowledge whatsoever. I want to build a craiglist.com type of site focused on RE. Can u help? I have been in the real estate business since I graduated college four years ago, both in a sales and development capacity. I've worked in real estate in two major metropolitan markets, Miami and New York City. As a result of this experience and other insights, I feel that a craigslist.com type of website focused on Real Estate in a particular city, in Miami for starters, could become a huge community success. In short, I want to build a craigslist.com or plentyoffish.com type of website focused on real estate, but I don't have the tech knowledge to even get it off the ground. If I want to teach myself how to build a site such as the ones I mentioned in terms of functionality, how can I get started? What sites, tutorials, etc, do you reccommend? I know there is web design involved, some programming, you have the back and front end, Mysql, html, need a hosting company, need the code for forums, chat rooms, listings, etc. That's about the extent of my tech knowledge. Help.
Free lance Artists? Where in the New york city tri state area could I search for free lance artist? I have searched craigslist and found nothing... I need some pictures drawn but I cant draw although I have a vision for what I want. I was considering finding a tattoo artist but I would also need someone with whom I could develop a working relationship with. Any ideas? thanks
I want to move to a big city in the northeast or midwest. Advice? I come from a boring small town in Delaware. I visited Minneapolis/St. Paul for a few days and I loved it! There was so much to do and see. We walked around both downtowns. Everywhere we went we felt safe. The public transportation was great to ride on. I would love to live there, but the only problem is that it gets so incredibly cold in the winter! So I want to leave my job in Delaware and move to a city like the Twin Cities. I have narrowed my search to Minnesota, Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Columbus and Indianapolis. Any advice on where would be a good place for me to live? I have $3K saved up. I will try to line up a job on craigslist, but I may just up and move without a job lined up. How would you guys go about making a move like this?
I am thinking of moving to NYC. I only get $830 a month from s.s.i. Is it possible I could survive there? I am from CA. I would like to try to find a roommate in New York City. I don't know if it's unrealistic to do that with my income. I saw a lot of listings on craigslist, but the inexpensive rooms are usually around harlem or bronx. I need a little general advice about the city and what it would cost to live there.
