Disc Jockey Equipment Knowledge Base

What kind of equipment would I need to disc jockey at a wedding? I'm interested in becoming a wedding disc jockey. I do not have any DJ'ing experience, but would like to get into the business. I have a good ear for music (dating from the 80s-present), I listen to many classics that I can imagine myself hearing at a wedding and dancing to, etc etc. But more importantly, what kind of equipment do I need to get started? At a recent wedding when I actually paid attention to the DJ, I noticed that he was working off of his Mac; no turntables or anything. Other than supplying and playing music, and the occasional talking on mic to interact with the crowd, what would a wedding DJ be responsible for? Lighting? Providing speakers? I'd like to keep it simplistic and go with the laptop-for-music route. I'd plan on putting the hours into compiling a playlist that's suitable for the crowd's demographic, along with a lot of back-up material to get the crowd going if things get dull. Guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!
Disc Jockeys, what are the basic pieces of equipment that are needed to DJ with a laptop? I have a question for any Disc Jockeys. My 13-year old nephew wants to start DJing with his laptop. I was wondering what are the basic pieces of equipment that are needed? Is it just a mixer, turntable, laptop, and speaker that he needs? And is it possible that he can just use the laptop to DJ without the turntable? What are some good programs to use to DJ using only a laptop, mixer and speaker (minus the turntable)?

Dj ( Disc Jockey) with one Deck using software: can it be done? This is a question for DJ's who use CDJ's or CD-Dj equipment. I was considering buying some decks to retrain my ears for DJing, its been a while so i'm a bit rusty ( i was a vinyl guy). But i want to do this for minimal cost so i was considering the Numarkx NDX 400's read the reviews they do pretty much the same as generic CDJ ( which i do have access to for an hour or so per week) drifting... I wanted to buy one deck to save money and hook that deck up to some software which would allow that one deck to act as two decks, so essentially what i wanted was a package that consisted of: 1-Numark NDX 400 2-a mixer ( which i already own) 3-software which i can download onto my mac that does what i said. The trouble is i don't know if this is possible ( the one deck acting as two thing) can somebody advise me on how to proceed. Thanks for your help

Karaoke Set Up help needed for newbie? I am about the take over a small pub in our local area and am looking at investing in some Karaoke equipment in order to have Karaoke nights without the expense of a Karaoke or Disc Jockey. Having had a look on internet sites and ebay there is loads of equipment out there and I am totally confused!! Its only a small pub and I think there wil be a max of 50 people. I will only be using it for Karaoke, so don't need any fancy DJ mixers etc, although will want to play songs when no-one is singing - which I plan to do through laptop rather than Karaoke player. Can anyone please advise on which equipment would suit me, obviously I want decent good sounding equipment but don't want to spend an absolute arm and a leg because I will only be using in our pub for fun karaoke nights, although i do fancy the cordless mic's with reverb etc (any recommendations?) Any help what so ever would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Sarah I am based in the UK

Is it ok to listen to rap music while pregnant? Ya'll please dont laugh at my crazy question bc i really want to know. Im 23 weeks pregnant and im a Disc Jockey. Im still doing parties i just have someone help load and unload my equipment for me. Alot of times I have to play rap music at my gigs which doesnt bother me a bit bc i love rap! The only problem is I know theres alot of cursing in the songs and i was wondering if that would have an affect on my unborn child. They always say its good to listen to classical music while pregnant but im more of a hip hop type of momma...lol Now when my child is born im not gonna be playing rap and bad music around him but while hes inside me is that type of music ok to listen to? When im in my car i still like to bump my rap, should i stop for the time being? my boyfriend is more of a country and rock type person so our son is definitely gonna be a music lover of all kinds...lol
Where to start out 16 Year Old DJ? So, i'm a sixteen year old DJ Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida newly moved here from Europe. I want to start out my DJ'ing career or atleast have some experience before i head out in Major things like clubs and stuff like that. I have my DJ equipment already set up, but i'm wondering what i should start out with for getting experience until i'm old enough to do the major things. I have read a lot about promoting yourself to get gigs, and having a fair price on performing but i'm not sure. I've been thinking about joining up with Workshops but since i'm pretty new to this location i'm not sure where to search for that. So what i'm asking for is what should i do to gain experience and getting things to workout for me as a newly upcoming Disc Jockey in a entirely new foreign location. I just need a point in the right direction pretty much. Thanks for all the upcoming answers and i'm sorry for the spelling mistakes i might have.
