How do I start again after a stale career search and a not so good reason for leaving my last job? I'm an interior designer by trade and haven't been able to find a job in almost a year. I am looking/have been looking for a job the entire time, but when it comes down to the interview, the same two questions always comes up. Why haven't you worked in the past year? Why did you leave your last job? Then I never hear from the employer again. Truth is I quit my last job because I didn't like the way management was running the store (was a retail sales position) and I wasn't getting along with the assistant manager. So my question is what is the best response to these questions? I'm hoping to recieve a well qualified answer from someone who has been through this or from someone who would be hiring in this field.

I've been doing some research on education and programs but haven't come across anything promising yet. So far the only schooling I've found is through the Canadian Forces (I'm from Canada). Is that the only way to get proper training? That doesn't seem right. If it is, is it worth joining the CF? And there's also this thing called NASAR. I think it's American but would someone be able to explain it to me. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

How might I present my ongoing search for a satisfying career as a positive and not an inability to commit? I have an interview for a position I don't know that much about except that it would be for a great company. My anxiety arises when they ask about my work history. It is all over the place. How might I present my ongoing earnest search for a satisfying career as a positive and not an inability to commit? This job could be the one and I don't want to blow it! Also, it's over the phone. Is layed back better or worse than super upbeat friendly? You just never know what little insubstantial things will turn someone off especially over the phone. Am I being neurotic?

I've heard so many times before that I need to move away from Pittsburgh to find a career that I will enjoy, or even to find more than the few career opportunities found in the Pittsburgh area, but to get started seems daunting. I have a bachelor's degree in Speech Communication, with Finance,Customer Service, Media and Sales experience. How do you sucessfully search for a new career if you're working full-time? Other than quitting your current position, calling in sick and/or using vacation or personal days to job hunt/interview, what are some ethical and doable ways to look for a new job or career? I've found a number of positions for which I am qualified. I have my bachelor's degree from a top-tier school, so finding the job isn't really the issue. It's finding the company that will interview or consider me with the crazy schedule I have currently.

Do you think it would be worth investing time & money in learning a computing skill when I hear that a lot of jobs go to people from India etc, who are prepared to work well below the going rate?

City jobs; better alternative than the post-college career search? with bachelors degrees not being what they used to and having to vigorously search for a job when you're new to the market out of school, probably landing one that won't pay well, would you say it is better to just get a city job in sanitation, etc.? You do your 20 years and retire with a pension where you can work another job while you simultaneously collect. I'm curious what the pros and cons of this are.

He has a great resume, education, experience, background, and portfolio...no reason why he shouldn't have some interest out there. Upgrading puts his resume to the top of a employers list when they do a search...worth it?

I am a recent college grad looking for certifications to help with my career, computer or otherwise. Thoughts? Hey, I recently graduated college with a Bachelor's in Business Administration and a minor in management. I also have an associates degree in Business Technology/Managment. I am having a tough go of the career search. I have had a few interviews and some offers, but nothing that I thought were solid choices. I was wondering if there were any certifications worth looking into while I have some free time in between interviews. Are there any professional certifications that would be of help? Also, I have had some basic computer classes...but I was wondering how hard some of the network, I.T, MCSE, type certifications were to get. Would it be worth my time to try and get some type of computer certification? Or would I be totally lost without a background in it. Thanks.
