You know those stupid books they try to sell on TV that promise to give you the secret code to apply to these government grants for house down payments, financial distress, etc.? Some people have told me to look up home improvement grants, but I have no clue where to start or what to look up. I have tried looking some up but most web sites take me in circles or want me to pay just to look at the types of grants they have to offer. I just want to know does this type of grant exist and if so where are some legit sites I can look at. My husband and I were in the process of repairing our home when he lost his job in aircraft due to the economy. He had to settle for a much less paying job. We need some kind of help. Why oh why does the government give teens free houses and money for getting pregnant? Everyone wonders why there are so many teenage pregnancy's in this country (UK) Why does the govt. give these teens free council houses, £500 maternity grant, a wage each week etc etc when they do absolute jack s**t? from a teens point of view it's cushtie..... they're say 15, bored, hating their parents etc & think "i know, i'll have a baby and get a free house, loads of money..." & so on, not thinking once about the poor little babies their bringing into the world! Now i'm not saying every teen is like this but it's a FACT most teens have babies because they get all this free stuff and have to do absolutely nothing! I was 17 when i had my daughter, who's now 7, but me and my hubby worked our arses off to provide for her, we saved and saved until we could afford a house of our own & continue to work so we can afford our children...IT CAN BE DONE! i'm now 24 and have 2 more children, i'm so fed up with these teens doing NOTHING & getting everything! why is it fair they do.. .... nothing and get a free house, £500 maternity grant PER CHILD, a good weekly wage, free school dinners, free school uniforms, free school trips, free baby formular....the list goes on, when i work so hard and get NOTHING AT ALL!!!!!!!!! when will the government STOP PAYING TEENS TO GET PREGNANT! mommyautumn2006 i do completely understand what your saying, but in the long run it's just encouraging more and more pregnancies! it's all going round in circles and i have no idea how they can now stop it! i went to Jamaica for my honeymoon and was telling one of the staff about thins and they just didn't believe me, they said that over there if a teen gets pregnant, she's on her own and as a result, there are very very few pregnancies! but then again i do agree with you that it's not the child's fault si i wouldn't know how to stop it all! angelcakes thank you for your view, i'm really not that bad but you are obviously more opinionated than me so i will not bother defending myself...you can think what you like hun! Can i just add angelcakes that it's not the government that helped you it's us tax payers (workers) that helped you! Thank you for your answers, i do take every opinion into consideration! i do wonder if many of you read this part of the question... NOW I'M NOT SAYING EVERY TEEN IS LIKE THIS but it's a FACT most teens have babies because they get all this free stuff and have to do absolutely nothing! i am CLEARLY simply talking about the teenagers who have babies JUST TO GET A FREE HOUSE etc. i am also concerned that people who bother to get out of bed in the morning and WORK for their money get absolutely NOTHING from the govt. yet these youngsters do absolutely nothing and get bowed down to by the govt. I PERSONALLY FIND THAT VERY UNFAIR! where is all the free stuff for the working families? and i don't mean sh*tty working family tax credits who give you JS and then demand it back the nest year! i'm PERSONALLY fed up with the way I get treated in this country, and I PERSONALLY find it unfair that i work to not only support my own children, but to also pay for all these....... ... teenagers to get pregnant, have babies and never lift a finger! as many have pointed out, not all are like this and as i CLEARLY said "i don't think all teens are like this" but it IS A FACT that many do have babies PURELY FOR THE FREE HOUSES! angelcakes if you got benifits but are now paying your way - good on you and that immediately takes you out of this catogory, same with the person who is looking after her mother who has cancer - i'm not a cold hearted b**ch as some here have steriotypes me as - i'm just simply stating a fact that this government seem to look after the scroungers better than those who work for their money! AND I WILL NEVER CHANGE MY MIND ON THAT ONE! also angelcakes you say "anyone who needs it can get a maternity grant" I CAN'T, my hubby earns good money so the govt think we don't need any help, yet our mortgage on our house is £750 per month, our council tax is £100 with our bills and food included we are left with almost zilch, but that's ok because i'd rather work than scrounge! my hubby earns good money but gets taxed a HUGE amount to pay for what i have listed above and he also has to pay national insurence, again, money taken off hs wage! so NO, not everyone who needs that maternity grant gets it, trust me i have 3 children!
Can you use government grants on a house in foreclosure? My boyfriend and I want to buy our first home and know that there are a few programs out there that will help us out with the closing costs or a better interest rate. We also know there are programs available from the government, as well as our state, that offer free grant money for homes. But would we be eligible for these incentives if we want to purchase a house that currently is in foreclosure/pre-forclousure? We live in Florida if that helps . . . Also, would we look for asisitance in the county we live in or the county we plan to moving to? Thanks!
Government Grants to Cover Overdue Property Taxes? My friend owns a house and was always self employed in a business that hit the "skids" a few years back. He has recently gotten regular employment BUT is 2 years behind in his Property taxes as well as his School taxes. The good old tax system won't allow paym, ents they want the whole thing at once which he simply cannot come close to doing and 9is going to lose the home he has lived in for 20 years. He has a mortgage and some other bills he is now able to keep up but obviously his credit also hit the "skids" with the recent down turn of the business he was in so his credit isn't good. I am pretty sure there are grants people can obtain for these sort of things OR loans that would overlook the bad credit now that he is employed on a job. Every place on the Internet wants $$ and is just like the amazing Kreskin for info to FREE government money and this This info shouldn't be a gov. secret. FREE info PLEASE!!
Where is there absolutely free information on getting a housing/personal or small business grant? I live in Monroe County,Michigan. I am seriously looking into a way to develop a brand new income due to a recent auto accident I was involved in. I have been removed from the ability to work labor/factory jobs and want to start my own small business or get a somewhat large personal use grant, government or state provided it doesn`t matter. Everywhere I look on the internet to apply for such has a charge. In other words, I know I can start a small business with very little $$ its just where and how do I apply for such grants without paying another company for the information. Once again, I am looking to develop a new career(small business) or get a personal-use grant to get out on my own and invest into one of many catagories of my choice.
Is there a housing grant out-there,so that my husband and I can buy a house so we can foster\adopt? We cant have children and absolutely love them...A friend of a friend of mine got $8000. free government grant for down payment assistance ,this would even help, but the problem is ,she is so greedy that she wont give the web address up! I've searched the web and even went to one of those waste of time "free grant conferences", if I had the money to give them than I wouldn't need a grant , lol! Any help would be nice, thanks and God Bless! Thank you for your quick response to my question,I am aware that you can foster care and adopt without owning your own home as I was a foster child at one time , but I would rather own my own home so that I can assure the child or children that their home will never be taken away or replaced. But thank you for your answer and concern.
How poor do you have to be to get college grants? Just wondering of an example of someone that gets full government grants - no loans? Or at least half grants. For a school that may be 20K a year room and board. I suppose the family would have to have basically absolutely no income. Completely destitute. Minimum wage type family that qualifies for welfare and free housing. Not talking about loans- anyone under the sun can get those - you just have to breathe.
is it true that the government will give grants to minority for profit businesses? And is all of this really true? * One Million Dollars in Minority Business Grants for business start up! * Millions in Minority Business Grants to expand your existing business! * Receive $8,000 in Minority Grant for Free Legal Advice! * Millions Available In Minority Grants for the purchase of your first home!. * Receive $75,000 Housing Grant to Remodel Your House! * Receive $6,000 in Minority Scholarship Grants for College Tuition! How can all of this be true, if so the country would go bankrupt because we a lot of minorities with big ideas!!!!

Did you see Ron Paul on Keynesianism and Free markets on Morning Joe today? http://libertymaven.com/2009/05/15/ron-paul-attacks-keynesian-economics-on-msnbc/5755/ Ron Paul had a great appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” this morning. Scarborough and the other host praised Ron Paul for being one of the only people to predict our economic crisis. Joe reads Ron Paul’s own words in 2003 in amazement and asks how he knew what was going to happen when the others did not. The answer is quite simple really, two words: Austrian Economics. Paul then cites Keynes as the one person responsible for our current woes. Watch the appearance below. [video] Here is the full article they are discussing in the video: http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul128.html Mr. Chairman, thank you for holding this hearing on the Treasury Department's views regarding government sponsored enterprises (GSEs). I would also like to thank Secretaries Snow and Martinez for taking time out of their busy schedules to appear before the committee. I hope this committee spends some time examining the special privileges provided to GSEs by the federal government. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the housing-related GSEs received $13.6 billion worth of indirect federal subsidies in fiscal year 2000 alone. Today, I will introduce the Free Housing Market Enhancement Act, which removes government subsidies from the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac), and the National Home Loan Bank Board. One of the major government privileges granted to GSEs is a line of credit with the United States Treasury. According to some estimates, the line of credit may be worth over $2 billion. This explicit promise by the Treasury to bail out GSEs in times of economic difficulty helps the GSEs attract investors who are willing to settle for lower yields than they would demand in the absence of the subsidy. Thus, the line of credit distorts the allocation of capital. More importantly, the line of credit is a promise on behalf of the government to engage in a huge unconstitutional and immoral income transfer from working Americans to holders of GSE debt. The Free Housing Market Enhancement Act also repeals the explicit grant of legal authority given to the Federal Reserve to purchase GSE debt. GSEs are the only institutions besides the United States Treasury granted explicit statutory authority to monetize their debt through the Federal Reserve. This provision gives the GSEs a source of liquidity unavailable to their competitors. The connection between the GSEs and the government helps isolate the GSE management from market discipline. This isolation from market discipline is the root cause of the recent reports of mismanagement occurring at Fannie and Freddie. After all, if Fannie and Freddie were not underwritten by the federal government, investors would demand Fannie and Freddie provide assurance that they follow accepted management and accounting practices. Ironically, by transferring the risk of a widespread mortgage default, the government increases the likelihood of a painful crash in the housing market. This is because the special privileges granted to Fannie and Freddie have distorted the housing market by allowing them to attract capital they could not attract under pure market conditions. As a result, capital is diverted from its most productive use into housing. This reduces the efficacy of the entire market and thus reduces the standard of living of all Americans. Despite the long-term damage to the economy inflicted by the government's interference in the housing market, the government's policy of diverting capital to other uses creates a short-term boom in housing. Like all artificially-created bubbles, the boom in housing prices cannot last forever. When housing prices fall, homeowners will experience difficulty as their equity is wiped out. Furthermore, the holders of the mortgage debt will also have a loss. These losses will be greater than they would have otherwise been had government policy not actively encouraged over-investment in housing. Perhaps the Federal Reserve can stave off the day of reckoning by purchasing GSE debt and pumping liquidity into the housing market, but this cannot hold off the inevitable drop in the housing market forever. In fact, postponing the necessary, but painful market corrections will only deepen the inevitable fall. The more people invested in the market, the greater the effects across the economy when the bubble bursts. No less an authority than Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan has expressed concern that government subsidies provided to GSEs make investors underestimate the risk of investing in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Mr. Chairman, I would like to once again thank the Financial Services Committee for holding this hearing. I would also like to thank Secretaries Snow and Martinez for their presence here today. I hope today's hearing sheds light on how special p Here's the rest: I would also like to thank Secretaries Snow and Martinez for their presence here today. I hope today's hearing sheds light on how special privileges granted to GSEs distort the housing market and endanger American taxpayers. Congress should act to remove taxpayer support from the housing GSEs before the bubble bursts and taxpayers are once again forced to bail out investors who were misled by foolish government interference in the market. I therefore hope this committee will soon stand up for American taxpayers and investors by acting on my Free Housing Market Enhancement Act. What do you think?
Did you know that Ron Paul warned of the housing bubble in 2003? True or false : Every year the government is required to give away free money to citizens and residents? I have seen several ads in this regard. is this true ? Every year the government is required to give away free money to citizens and residents of the United States. Over $50 billion dollars is given away each year to individuals and businesses in the form of free grants. This free money can be used for almost any purpose - including to buy a house, start a business, pay for college, buy equipment, pay salaries, buy school supplies, get out of debt, buy clothing, pay for child camp, pay for music, art or education lessons, paying off your medical bills, pay for gas for your car, and anything else you desire.
A basic income to all people? Both Cosatu/SACP, the DA and some other organisations have been calling on the government to introduce a basic income to all people…….with others saying that should be for unemployed people only….. On the other hand, the government grants all households some free water and all indigent households free electricity. Social grants to poor people have been increased…..all aged people are eligible for state pension (means test applicable)……….Black people and women are getting preference on jobs……..Black companies are preferred over white companies in state tenders………most township/rural area schools are “no fee schools’…………the government is providing free houses…………medical services at government hospitals and clinics are free…….. Now, firstly, personally I disagree with the provision of houses for free…..I believe that people should provide for their families…….that would bring a sense of pride……..I believe that it was wrong for the ANC to promise people houses……they should have promised them a fully serviced plot and let every person build their houses………. But back to the basic income; how is it paid? Would real freedom exist if people were all given a basic income. This BI would be given to poor and rich alike: no people will be without money. So everyone would survive. If the state gives you BI, should they tell you what you could do and not do with it”?.....What about those irresponsible people who would use the money for booze and let children suffer? How would the state ensure that the concept doesn’t promote a culture of not wanting to work…..after all the state is providing…………wouldn’t this create a culture of “no work, government provides” as is happening with houses? Wouldn’t this confirm terms such as bum-loser etc…….. What would happen with other grants? Will they fall away? How much would the BI be……..if in terms of sectoral determinations, the lowest paid worker gets 1600, will that person be interested to go to work if BI is at, say 1500…….. Will people be paying tax on BI, if not then we could all turn out to be writers, painters, and philosophers - and not have to work. There would be no need to work……. All in all, people would be mainly dependent on the state and the state will manipulate everybody. What’s your view…….
How can you call someone " underprivileged " when ....? Why do people clamor about the needs of the " under privileged poor " when the " underprivileged poor " receive government entitlements granting them free housing + free food + + free college money + free day care + free cell phones + free money for every book students read + free school breakfast & lunch + free tution money for training programs + free money for being a ' caregiver ' + free computers + free money to pay for a ' caregiver '+ free welfare money + free health care + free summer camp , etc. ? How can you call someone " underprivileged " when the " underprivileged " receive free housing, free food , free health care, free computers, free cell phones, free training programs whether you ever work as a beautician or trailer truck driver, free dental care, free school breakfasts & lunches, free money for reading a book, free college money, free day care, free summer camp, free welfare money, free ' caregiver ' money for living with a relative etc. ?
How do you monitor the "Free Market" to contain fraud? The conservative argument is to dismantle the federal and state governments so that they don't have to pay taxes or be held accountable for wrongful acts. Let's get hypothetical, and give them what they want a pure unregulated free market economic system. No Federal Reserve Bank, no Securities Exchange Commission, no bank examiners, no farm subsidies, no Small Business Administration with government backed grants and loans, no Federal Trade Commission or other government consumer protection agencies. How do you keep larger corporations from crushing small businesses and family farms? Eventually there would be one super corporation controlling each major industry. More importantly that super corporation may not be an American company. Is it a "free market" when there are only four or five conglomerates that control all commerce? How do you hold corporations responsible for their employees and the communities where they reside. Should we applaud these companies when they cast aside American workers, including middle and upper level professionals, in favor of foreign workers that are better educated and will work for far less? Remember there's no government to interfere by created laws forcing them to hire American workers or impose pecuniary penalties to dissuade them from hiring foreign workers. Consider this, slave labor means more profit so the walls, trenches, and moats on the border with Mexico have to come down. Here is probably the most important issue what protection would consumers have if corporations or individuals, in a fit of greed, preyed upon those consumers fraudulently or commit environmental damage destroying the health of a community. As in the case of EMRON or the Love Canal in Western, NY. There would be no EPA to champion the cause of those who would be injured by environmental damage. Another issue is what about indebtedness? Theoretically in a free market goods and services go for a certain price and if the consumer cannot afford it those goods and services will not sell until the price drops to a point where the consumer is willing to buy. Credit allows consumers to purchase goods and services at the inflated prices until the debt is eventually called and when the consumer can't pay it you have a collapse of the whole house of cards. At that point the consumer can't purchase at any price until the debt is satisfied. Given these factors is a pure free market realistic? Intelligent answers instead of rants would be appreciated.
Free Grant Money? I have heard time and time again about free grant money...I am getting ready to buy a house and was wondering, does anyone know how and where I could get this free grant money from the Government.
Why the hell are Americans loving socialist ideals? We are a Federal Constitutional Republic. Our fore fathers made us the greatest country in the world. Millions of people immigrate here illegally and risk death to get the freedom we have and take for granted. If this system is so bad, why don't the socialistic people in America live in the country's that they appraise. I really want you to live there and understand what you take for granted. There is so much freedom here, you can become anyone. The immigrants come here for freedom not hand outs and free health care or free welfare or free government housing or free medicaid. I really wish the Americans that are my neighbors and friends drop the socialistic ideas, really it failed many times. Hitler was a socialist party in the democracy of Germany then become a Fascist. America can do the same thing, I don't want to repeat History. PLEASE know your history before you rant and tell me these ideas are not socialistic. Socialism is having the government "equally distribute" wealth, that's government expansion, the fore fathers fought a big government, we are forgetting our morals. The Preamble says "Promote the General Welfare" This health care reform is ENFORCEMENT not Promotional, since Promotional would encourage we do, not enforce us to do so. I wish you Americans that disagree knew what our fore fathers stood for. Their stance is the reason America is the best country in the world. If we stray from that we become poor and less efficient. Not so looney afterall: No my parents never used any social programs they did this thing called working. Sakata Gintoki: Wow you're ignorant, you can't make a business off of private ownership of streets. people would still use them regardless. Public Schools suck vs Private. That's why Public Schools in America have drop out ratings of 50%. It is abused. Everything the government ran sucks, Social Security is pathetic since people past 65 still work. If you can't make it in the private sector it should be public, like police officers, like fire fighters. The preamble says "Provide for the common defense" Read the preamble before you act like a little fascist.
Is there government assistance for eradicating mold from your home, and other health and safety issues? We have a mortgage on our home. We qualify for some government assistance programs (CHP+, LEAP, free lunch program at public school) so our income is low to moderate. We are a one-income family with 3 children. We have a problem with heating our home efficiently and there is the added problem of mold on any wall that is an outside wall. Mold also accumulates on the window frames on the inside of the house. I feel it is affecting our health but we don't know where to start with eliminating the mold, making sure it doesn't come back and are severly limited in funds to do anything. Does anyone know of any grants, subsidies or programs that we might qualify for?
Are there any 100% FREE programs to receive govt. money? I have searched for government grant programs and there is always a catch...you have to pay to receive any information or application packages. Then, there is a MONTHLY or YEARLY access fee to research or apply for these programs. I am a full-time single mother and full-time student. I need money ( besides the Pell Grant I receive) to pay for housing, bills, ect. Any suggestions??
Should we have listened to Ron Paul back in 2003? http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul128.html Mr. Chairman, thank you for holding this hearing on the Treasury Department's views regarding government sponsored enterprises (GSEs). Yes, I knew before I asked that some will divert from the fact that Ron Paul is right with things like "It's a cut and paste", or "he's a nutjob", etc. Why do you people bother answering at all?
I am thinking of emigrating to Pakistan? When i get there i will need free housing, free healthcare and a free interpreter (so i can claim all the benefits that i am entitled too). I will also need a grant from the government so that i can build a christian church. It sounds great doesn't it?
Can we stop government expansion? I am sick and tired of socialists, I won't call them liberals, I call them socialists. Who demand the government handle everything. The private sectors that failed, always have due to government insight/regulation. Health Care wasn't a free market due to medicare/medicaid Medicare - Free for Elderly Medicaid - Free for the Poor Failed Banking Industry was due to the CRA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_Reinvestment_Act It targeted low-moderate income neighborhoods...Kind of sounds like everyone but upper class. Read it before you type through your emotions. Social Security Elderly people past 65 still work and can't live only off the checks. Otherwise everyone past 65 would be retired. Government Housing Has the highest crime rates in America. I'd love to see an episode of cops where they run through a suburb, probably won't happen. Government programs fail, our fore fathers designed us to have small government, can we stop abusing what we take for granted? Let the private sector run it's self since the people choose what they want, just like how the people choose what private companies to start. 50% of the GNP comes from small business. -Fortune Magazine. Wake up Americans, THE GOVERNMENT CAN NOT MAKE WEALTH, ONLY GENERATE INCOME THROUGH TAXATION. That's how socialism works is when everyone gets the same treatment through taxation. Like health care, housing, food, etc.. I am not talking about protection like military, it's different. The preamble says "Provide for the common defense" meaning provide it do it. "promote the general welfare" it isn't promotional when you're being forced in taxes to pay for it, it becomes enforcement, if you refuse you go to jail. Charley: Wow you're so uneducated I might slap Karl Marx, someone you don't even know probably. Socialism is the redistribution of wealth for equal treatment. If everyone is being taxed to pay for these things. Guess what buddy, that's socialism. Stop making up your own definitions. Well thank god we got the right to bare arms, I got a stock pile so when the country becomes socialist officially, I'll practice that right and fight an anarchy. Just like the fore fathers fighting big brother king government. Except this time it be between our own country. scammaj12: Health care reform is the expansion of government regulation, that's what liberals are doing right now. What if they decided to cut medicare/medicaid government ran programs and said here run the private sector. They are socialists for wanting government ran programs with the "public option" which is really a "public monopoly"
Does it seem to you the more people are provided the less ambition they seem to have? The war on poverty , cradle to grave medical care, WIC, welfare, grants, free public education, soup kitchens, Salvation Army, low income housing and on and on. Wouldn't you think with all the organizations to help the poor that poverty would be virtually eliminated? But the complete opposite is the case. The more you offer the poor the more poverty seems to grow. The governments answer always seems to be to tax the working man more to pay for the growing poor unemployed population.
What is so free about living in the US? I am wondering why we it is considered so special to live in a supposed "free society." It should be taken for granted to live and work where you want. People say we have the right to vote but that is an illusion to make us feel like were contributing to government. George Bush, did not win by popular decision. Our country does not allow us to make choices to smoke drugs, drink alcohol under the age of 21, gay marriage, Polygamy, at certain time it forces individuals into war, you can't build a house in the wilderness, your children are technically owned by the government and parents are just their primary caretakers (Look that one up if you don't beleive me. Practically every law ever written besides don't murder, steal, hurt each other, are extreme restrictions of our freedom. THe US has over 2 million people incarcerated for violating the Laws, I understand the murderers, the rapist, the thieves, and the brawlers, but what about everyone else. Is this FREEDOM? Bill W. I love that attitude, North Koreans aren't free either, neither is the US. One is worse than the other, thats an easy observation, I know governments are a necessary evil but why do we have so many restrictions. Why do people as a whole have almost every facet of their life controlled, you can't even go to the park after dark. You call that freedom, I know its' better than facing an execution sqaud in North Korea, but why are there literally thousands of Lawbooks containing hundreds of thousands of laws, if everything is so free. Don't you think its kind of totalitarian to send a person to prison for years for growing marijuana. Or 20 years for having 2 wives. How about paying a couple of hundred dollars for choosing not to wear a seatbelt. THese are minor things but why does the government treat us as though were their children Hawkston, that point of being so proud of our freedom of speech is ridiculous. Yes I know there are far worse countries and the US has it good compared to others I am not arguing that, What I am saying that although the US is better than some the "Bill of Rights" shouldn't have to be written, in fact instead of giving us 10 "freedoms" that we automatically should have upon birth on the planet earth there should only be 10 laws that are always followed.
Free Energy......What's Needed? What kind of extra equipment would i need to heat and light a 3 bed house to run solely off of sun/wind power?... I know about Solar panels and Wind turbines but are they expensive? Could i get a Government grant?.......has anyone converted their own house ? I live in a Council house..would i need planning permission to put the equipment up?
Where in the Constitution is the federal government given permission to run your favorite program? I suggest looking up Article I Section 8 (the powers of the Congress) and Article II Section 2 (the powers of the President). It is illegal and treasonous (not to mention perjury, considering their Oath of Office)) for the Congress or the President to do anything which they are not given power to do in the Constitution. By the way, the Commerce Clause only grants the Feds power to prevent states from interfering with interstate commerce (for example, refusing to let people transport products legally purchased in another state across state lines or imposing a tariff on interstate commerce) and does not grant the federal government any power to interfere with the free movement of interstate commerce. The General Welfare (which is in the preamble) grants the federal government no power, as the preamble is purely symbolic. I should also note that the president's power as Commander-in-Chief only applies when a war has been declared by Congress, a situation which has not been the case since the end of WWII in 1945. I also have to note that federal judges are restricted to upholding the Constitution and do not have any right to abuse their office by making up new powers. The only way for the federal government to acquire any additional powers is through the amendment process. The main power they have acquired through amendment is the power to lay an unapportioned direct tax on incomes (the 16th Amendment). Most amendments have reduced the power of the federal government. Of course, Jim Clyburn, the 3rd highest ranking Democrat in the House, confessed recently: "There's nothing in the Constitution that says that the federal government has anything to do with most of the stuff we do." If you cannot find any power to justify your favorite government program in the Constitution, then there is an amendment process. If what you want is truly desirable, I'm sure you'll be able to get it ratified. If you think that the federal government ought to provide "free" health care for everybody or promote religion, you are free to advocate a Constitutional amendment. However, it is currently illegal to implement such programs.
Government Grant/scams? I got a letter in the mail and it was telling me that i can get a Grant and do not have to pay it back. it said that i can get up to $ 5,000 and 50,000 dollars. then it had a list of things like this $50,000 to go back to school $10,000 in free health care 31,000 towards a new house 10,000 to fix up your house 50,000 to travel the world 5000 to start a home base business 4800 to pay personal family expense 1,300 for mortgage payments 328 every month to help pay rent 9500 to pay your bills Has anybody got a card like this in the mail i am thinking about calling them back but i am afraid it might be a scam so has anybody ever got-ting one of these cards in the mail and tried it and had to pay nothing back please let me know When i called them they said i will not have to paid nothing Does that still make it a scam
Goverment grants? Do they exist? A couple of years ago I heard someone talking about how the Government has to 'give' away so much money per year. Is this true? And if so, what are the quailificatons? I am a single mother of two and although I work I am still considered low income. I do not receive child support. I also live in government funded housing so my rent is based solely on my income. I want to move someplace that my children have more yard to play in and where we could have more room- however at this time I am unable to qualify for a loan and don't want to because I know I would have trouble paying the monthly fee to the bank. Is there some kind of grant (no strings attached) that I would qualify for in order to purchase a home in PA. I say no strings attached because I would not be able to pay anything back-I don't want a loan. And yes, I know I would then be responsible for property taxes each year. I am taking college classes in order to better our lives. Not some deadbeat parent trying to live for free.
Are these the quotes of kooky conspiracy theorists or is conspiracy a reality of our government? These quotes by people in positions to know are quite revealing of the fact that we live in a world dominated by conspiracies among the well-connected and powerful wealthy elite. ----------------------- "In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way." - Franklin D. Roosevelt “Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men's views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States —in the fields of commerce and manufacturing—are afraid of somebody. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they had better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it.” - Woodrow Wilson “A financial element in the large centers has owned the government since the days of Andrew Jackson.” - Franklin Roosevelt “We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order.” - David Rockefeller “Today, America would be outraged if UN troops entered Los Angeles to restore order. Tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told that there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all people of the world will plead to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well-being granted to them by the world government.” - Henry Kissinger (Bilderburg Conference 1991 Evians, France) “Naturally the common people don't want war…but after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship…all you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.” Herman Goering ( One of Hitler's top men, during the Nuremberg Trials) The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists. - Edgar J Hoover We must strengthen the United Nations as a first step toward a World Government, patterned after our Own Government with a legislature, executive and judiciary and police. - Walter Cronkite In 1913, Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act. A few years later he wrote: I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men. - Woodrow Wilson By the time you become the leader of a country, someone else makes all the decisions. You may find you can get away with Virtual Presidents, Virtual Prime Ministers, and Virtual Everything. - Bill Clinton The easiest way to gain control of the population is to carry out acts of terror. The public will clamor for such laws if the personal security is threatened. - Joseph Stalin The real rulers of Washington are Invisible and exercise power from behind the scenes. - Justice Felix Frankfurter - US Supreme Court Justice The real menace of our Republic is the invisible Government which like a giant Octopus, sprawls its slimy legs over our cities, states, and nation. - John F. Hylan - Mayor NYC 1918-1925 The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know that a financial element in the large centers has OWNED the Government of the U.S. since the days of Andrew Jackson." (History points to the last truly honorable and incorruptible American President as "Old Hickory") - FDR to Col. E. Mandell House 11/21/1933 "Give me control of a Nation's money and I care not who makes the laws." - Mayer Amschel Bauer (Rothschild) "The Trilateralist Commission is international ...(and)...is intended to be the vehicle for multinational consolidation of the commercial and banking interests by seizing CONTROL of the political government of the United States. The Trilateralist Commission represents a skillful, coordinated effort to seize COTROL and consolidate the four centers of power: Political - Monetary - Intellectual - and Ecclesiastical." - Barry Goldwater , U.S. Senator AZ. "We are grateful to the Washington Post, the NY Times, Time Magazine, and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings, and respected their promises of discretion for almost 40 years. It would have been impossible for us to develop OUR PLAN for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a World Government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual ELITE and World Bankers is surely preferable to the national auto - determination practiced in past centuries." - David Rockefeller CFR Kingpin, Founder of the Trilateral Commission, NOW Godfather / June 1991 "The Technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more CONTROLLED society. Such a society would be dominated by ELITE, unrestrained by traditional values." - Zbigniew Brezhinsky , Advisor to 5 U.S. Presidents - Executive Director Trilateral Commission. "Between two Ages" "It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our Banking and Monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a Revolution before tomorrow morning." - Henry Ford “We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans” - Bill Clinton 1993 “The interests behind the Bush Administration, such as the CFR, the Trilateral Commission – founded by Brzezinski for David Rockefeller – and the Bilderberg Group have prepared for and are now moving to implement open world dictatorship within the next five years.” - Dr. Johannes Koeppl – former official of the German Ministry for Defense and adviser to NATO. “We are on the verge of a Global transformation. All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order.” - David Rockefeller "Democracy tends to ignore, even deny, threats to its existence because it loathes doing what is needed to counter them," explained Revel. "It awakens only when the danger becomes deadly, imminent, and evident. By then, either there is too little time left for it to save itself, or the price of survival has become crushingly high." - Jean Francois Revel "For more than a century, ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it." - David Rockefeller, Memoirs , 2002 “Stop throwing the Constitution in my face! It's just a [expletive deleted] piece of paper!” - George Bush “Every time we do something, you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don't worry about American pressure on Israel . We, the Jewish people, control America , and the Americans know it.” - Ariel Sharon , October 3, 2001 "I came to America because of the great, great freedom which I heard existed in this country. I made a mistake in selecting America as a land of freedom, a mistake I cannot repair in the balance of my lifetime." - Albert Einstein, 1947 "We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the world - no longer a Government of free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of small groups of dominant men." - Woodrow Wilson [U.S. President during World War I] "The U.S. must carry out some act somewhere in the world which shows its determination to continue to be a world power." - Henry Kissinger , post-Vietnam blues, as quoted in The Washington Post, April 1975 "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." -- Thomas Jefferson
How do troops fight for freedom or free speech through unlawful occupations, murder, and terrorism? 1. Freedom of speech is granted by God, not by government. 2. A government is it's people. 3. "A house divided against itself cannot stand" -Jesus Christ Matthew 12:25 4. Jesus taught us that a majority of people must support the government for the government to succeed. A country will not collapse in a day, as evil still exists, but good always conquors evil. 5. The mind and body are distinct. Bodies can be contained, but minds cannot. A system of belief (or governance) cannot be imposed on the minds of people who do not agree. The body is controlled by the mind. Any government (The US) who wishes to "liberate" a group of people through oppression (war, and the appointment of officials) can not succeed when the "liberated" peoples disagree with the system of oppression. 6. When a minority of people wish to be "liberated" by the US, such "liberation" is oppression, wheras if the minority were opposed it would be suppression. Troops cannot give a freedom "speech" which God gives.
Does loosechange911.com really explain how the US government conducted the 9/11 terror attacks? Loosechange 9/11 is some video that claims that the US government is responsible for 9/11. This doesn't make sense though, because the mass media haven't said anything about it, and the president swears that he's fighting terror, not causing it. But 9/11 did grant the president tremendous power, and result in massive military strikes in the middle east which have hugely boosted the profits of oil giants and former companies of Dick Cheney's like Halliburton and the makers of Tamiflu. But it does explain why Osama bin Laden is untouchable and can avoid billions of dollars of US security and defense spending: he's working for the US government. Maybe the media silence is an indicator that America is no longer a free country. There is no investigation, just blind swallowing of what the White House tells us.

Why are our armed services treated so badly in the UK? I know this story is a week or so old now but it made me so mad: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/blog/editors_corner/article/1216/ In America, a soldier will get treated like a hero, all his drinks and food will be "on the house" etc. Over here, our boys get treated like dirt. Thts not to mention the ex soldiers who are left homeless on the streets (whilst the Government gives council housing and benefits to fraudulent asylum seekers like the men who hijacked a plane at Heathrow airport and threatened to kill all the passengers if they weren't granted asylum. Guess what - they were. Plus free housing and all the freebies they could wish for). Enough of my ancestors have fought and died for the UK in 2 world wars and it makes me very angry to see the way these brave men and women get treated when they come home. They deserve a hero's welcome! Apparently this soldier has been offered a room at the Ritz, with dinner and breakfast thrown in, all at the hotel's expense. As for the "Metro" hotel, I'm boycotting this chain in the future and I hope lots of other people do as well! Helicreature - I'm not saying they want the same OTT treatment as soldiers in the US sometimes get but a bit of decent common courtesy and respect might be in order, something which CPL Stringer was denied. Also "Ex Soldiers fall on hard times for exactly the same reasons civilians do...because they are boozers, or work shy." This is very unfair. I know cases of men who suffered severe injury or PTS etc (incurred in the line of duty) who have found it nearly impossible to adapt to live in civvie land or hold down a job because of their conditions and the Government just don't give a damn about them. My late father (ex army) had a nevous breakdown as a result of untreated PTS in the late 1960s. it destroyed his life (and his family's) and he was given no support at all! Things obviously haven't changed. http://www.sundayherald.com/news/heraldnews/display.var.1089966.0.one_in_10_of_city_homeless_is_a_former_soldier.php http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/index.html
here is something about race relations feel free to give honest opinions? Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.? Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to. This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these: First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known. Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American. Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the '60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream. Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black a pplicants over white applicants. Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and indiv iduals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks. We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?? Barack talks about new 'ladders of opportunity' for blacks. Let him go to Altoona?and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for 'deserving' white kids.? Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent? Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself? As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time? Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse? We have all heard adnauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena. And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing. Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago. Be a better friend, just a few interesting statements don't get upset about the truth that you never hear about

Eisenhower, January 17, 1961. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My fellow Americans: Three days from now, after half a century in the service of our country, I shall lay down the responsibilities of office as, in traditional and solemn ceremony, the authority of the Presidency is vested in my successor. This evening I come to you with a message of leave-taking and farewell, and to share a few final thoughts with you, my countrymen. Like every other citizen, I wish the new President, and all who will labor with him, Godspeed. I pray that the coming years will be blessed with peace and prosperity for all. Our people expect their President and the Congress to find essential agreement on issues of great moment, the wise resolution of which will better shape the future of the Nation. My own relations with the Congress, which began on a remote and tenuous basis when, long ago, a member of the Senate appointed me to West Point, have since ranged to the intimate during the war and immediate post-war period, and, finally, to the mutually interdependent during these past eight years. In this final relationship, the Congress and the Administration have, on most vital issues, cooperated well, to serve the national good rather than mere partisanship, and so have assured that the business of the Nation should go forward. So, my official relationship with the Congress ends in a feeling, on my part, of gratitude that we have been able to do so much together. II We now stand ten years past the midpoint of a century that has witnessed four major wars among great nations. Three of these involved our own country. Despite these holocausts America is today the strongest, the most influential and most productive nation in the world. Understandably proud of this pre-eminence, we yet realize that America's leadership and prestige depend, not merely upon our unmatched material progress, riches and military strength, but on how we use our power in the interests of world peace and human betterment. III Throughout America's adventure in free government, our basic purposes have been to keep the peace; to foster progress in human achievement, and to enhance liberty, dignity and integrity among people and among nations. To strive for less would be unworthy of a free and religious people. Any failure traceable to arrogance, or our lack of comprehension or readiness to sacrifice would inflict upon us grievous hurt both at home and abroad. Progress toward these noble goals is persistently threatened by the conflict now engulfing the world. It commands our whole attention, absorbs our very beings. We face a hostile ideology-global in scope, atheistic in character, ruthless in purpose, and insidious in method. Unhappily the danger it poses promises to be of indefinite duration. To meet it successfully, there is called for, not so much the emotional and transitory sacrifices of crisis, but rather those which enable us to carry forward steadily, surely, and without complaint the burdens of a prolonged and complex struggle-with liberty at stake. Only thus shall we remain, despite every provocation, on our charted course toward permanent peace and human betterment. Crises there will continue to be. In meeting them, whether foreign or domestic, great or small, there is a recurring temptation to feel that some spectacular and costly action could become the miraculous solution to all current difficulties. A huge increase in newer elements of our defense; development of unrealistic programs to cure every ill in agriculture; a dramatic expansion in basic and applied research-these and many other possibilities, each possibly promising in itself, may be suggested as the only way to the road we wish to travel. But each proposal must be weighed in the light of a broader consideration: the need to maintain balance in and among national programs-balance between the private and the public economy, balance between cost and hoped for advantage-balance between the clearly necessary and the comfortably desirable; balance between our essential requirements as a nation and the duties imposed by the nation upon the individual; balance between action of the moment and the national welfare of the future. Good judgment seeks balance and progress; lack of it eventually finds imbalance and frustration. The record of many decades stands as proof that our people and their government have, in the main, understood these truths and have responded to them well, in the face of stress and threat. But threats, new in kind or degree, constantly arise. I mention two only. IV A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction. Our military organization today bears little relation to that known by any of my predecessors in peace time, or indeed by the fighting men of World War II or Korea. Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry. American makers of plowshares could, with time and as required, make swords as well. But now we can no longer risk emergency improvisation of national defense; we have been compelled to create a permanent armaments industry of vast proportions. Added to this, three and a half million men and women are directly engaged in the defense establishment. We annually spend on military security more than the net income of all United States corporations. This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence-economic, political, even spiritual-is felt in every city, every state house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together. Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades. In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government. Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been over shadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers. The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite. It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system-ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society. V Another factor in maintaining balance involves the element of time. As we peer into society's future, we-you and I, and our government-must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow. VI Down the long lane of the history yet to be written America knows that this world of ours, ever growing smaller, must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a proud confederation of mutual trust and respect. Such a confederation must be one of equals. The weakest must come to the conference table with the same confidence as do we, protected as we are by our moral, economic, and military strength. That table, though scarred by many past frustrations, cannot be abandoned for the certain agony of the battlefield. Disarmament, with mutual honor and confidence, is a continuing imperative. Together we must learn how to compose difference, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose. Because this need is so sharp and apparent I confess that I lay down my official responsibilities in this field with a definite sense of disappointment. As one who has witnessed the horror and the lingering sadness of war-as one who knows that another war could utterly destroy this civilization which has been so slowly and painfully built over thousands of years-I wish I could say tonight that a lasting peace is in sight. Happily, I can say that war has been avoided. Steady progress toward our ultimate goal has been made. But, so much remains to be done. As a private citizen, I shall never cease to do what little I can to help the world advance along that road. VII So-in this my last good night to you as your President-I thank you for the many opportunities you have given me for public service in war and peace. I trust that in that service you find somethings worthy; as for the rest of it, I know you will find ways to improve performance in the future. You and I-my fellow citizens-need to be strong in our faith that all nations, under God, will reach the goal of peace with justice. May we be ever unswerving in devotion to principle, confident but humble with power, diligent in pursuit of the Nation's great goals. To all the peoples of the world, I once more give expression to America's prayerful and continuing aspiration: We pray that peoples of all faiths, all races, all nations, may have their great human needs satisfied; that those now denied opportunity shall come to enjoy it to the full; that all who yearn for freedom may experience its spiritual blessings; that those who have freedom will understand, also, its heavy responsibilities; that all who are insensitive to the needs of others will learn charity; that the scourges of poverty, disease and ignorance will be made to disappear from the earth, and that, in the goodness of time, all peoples will come to live together in a peace guaranteed by the binding force of mutual respect and love.
Obama is slamming Palin for supposedly ties to lobbyists, but do you guys know about his ties? ? Obama’s Early Campaigns Financed by Lobbyists Monday, September 8, 2008 3:29 PM By: Kenneth R. Timmerman While Sen. Barack Obama takes great pride in having recruited more than 1.2 million donors to his presidential campaign — many of whom contributed less than $100 — he hasn’t always been a man in touch with the grass roots. Indeed, his early campaigns for the Illinois state Senate were heavily financed by well-connected business leaders, lobbyists, trial lawyers, and labor unions, a Newsmax review of campaign finance records shows. Obama launched his first campaign for the Illinois Senate in July 1995 with a $5,000 loan from Al Johnson, a prominent Cadillac dealer in Chicago who was a close crony of Jesse L. Jackson Sr. Johnson boasted of having provided luxury cars to Jackson free of charge, as I reported in my 2002 book, "Shakedown: Exposing the Real Jesse Jackson." Johnson added another $2,000 to the pot as a contribution to the campaign in September 1995, making him Obama’s single largest supporter. Not all of the Friends of Obama campaign reports are available online through the state of Illinois Web site. While there is no specific record available showing that he paid off the $5,000 loan to Al Johnson, his June 30, 1997 financial statement shows that his campaign’s debts had been reduced from $12,494.38 to $3,637.01. The connection to Johnson came through Michelle Obama, who reportedly had been close to Jesse Jackson and his family since childhood. Obama’s only other contributor in the early days of his campaign was Tony Rezko, the Chicago slumlord and developer convicted in July on 12 counts of wire and mail fraud. Rezko gave Obama $2,000 in July 1995 as corporate donations from Lakeside Refreshments and Rezko Foods, both of which he controlled. Obama has said he never intervened on behalf of Rezko in state or federal business, and did not benefit from a sweatheart land deal with the convicted felon, although Rezko sold him a lot next to Obama’s house in Chicago at what appeared to be below-market prices. But in the 1990s, Obama’s Chicago lawfirm represented Rezko and his company, Rezmar Corp, as Rezko won government grants to build low-income housing for the poor. Both Rezko and his wife, Rita, worked on Obama’s first state Senate campaign in 1995, in addition to contributing money directly and through corporate entities. Once Obama was elected as a first-time state senator in 1996, he turned increasingly to big labor and big donors. Money from Political Action Committees (PACs) — the vehicles used by lobbyists and labor unions — often outweighed contributions from individuals by as much as 10-to-1. For the first half of 1997, for example, he collected $12,200 from PACs and trial lawyers, and just $4,175 from individuals. But even here, $2,000 of the money accounted for as individual contributions came from Rezko Concessions and Rezmar Corp, both of which were controlled by Tony Rezko. For the first half of 1998, this trend continued, with just $1,505 collected from individuals and $13,500 from PACs. Tony Rezko provided food valued at $457.70 that was listed as an “in-kind” contribution. As the 1998 elections approached, Obama picked up close to $30,000 from individuals, and an additional $23,850 from lobbyists. His single largest contribution — $5,000 — was from the Illinois Political Action Committee for Education (IPACE), the political arm of the state teachers’ union. His second largest — $3,000 — came from the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association. Next, with $1,000 each, came PACs representing the Teamsters, Social Workers, lawyers, dentists, the Chicago Teacher’s Union. A wide variety of local and federal labor unions gave him smaller amounts. By January 1999, lobbyists and lawyers had become his single largest source of funding. For the first half of 2000, Obama no longer bothered to solicit individual campaign contributors, while raising $14,600 from the lobbyists. Even though 2000 was an election year, he only raised $2,400 from individuals that fall, while raking in $28,560 from lobbyists and lawyers. And of the $2,400 from individuals, more than half came from Evanston, Ill., lawyer, Larry Suffredin Jr. “Obama’s source of support comes from the very far left of the Democrat party — unions, trial lawyers, social workers — not individuals,” said Cleta Mitchell, a partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm Foley and Lardner, which specializes in campaign finance law. “So, now they try to say they have all this money from little people. He didn’t get there with small contributions from little people. He got there with being financed for a number of years by ultra left wing interests.” It was those larger interests that provided the seed money and expertise that allowed the Obama campaign to build the broad base of smaller donors that his campaign now boasts of having recruited, Mitchell told Newsmax. My question is- Why is Obama slamming Palin when he's done worse? Please don't answer my question with a question. Is it too difficult to answer my question? Thus far, people are evading the question and saying, "but, but... Well, what about..." Come on, let's answer the question. Morbus- NewsMax has provided their sources, so your arguement is NULL AND VOID.
If the Democrats agree to enact some free-market reforms, it might be worth supporting a modest expansion of S If the Democrats agree to enact some free-market reforms, it might be worth supporting a modest expansion of S-CHIP. Otherwise, President Bush should make good on his veto threat. Ten years ago, Congress enacted the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, or S-CHIP, to cover kids whose parents were doing too well to qualify for Medicaid assistance but not well enough to buy their own insurance. Now the program is up for re-authorization, and congressional Democrats want to expand it as a down payment on national health care. The program has already expanded beyond its original mission. New York is planning to cover families that make four times the federal poverty line. Almost 700,000 adults get their coverage through the program. The design of the program abets its growth: When states expand benefits, the federal government picks up most of the tab. The program’s expansion has come at the expense of private health-care coverage. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the Democrats’ proposal would get insurance to 2.3 million additional children but simply replace private insurance for another 1.7 million. (It does not report on how many adults would also lose their private coverage.) Liberals are untroubled by this prospect. The replacement effect “hardly matters as long as the net effect is an expansion of insurance,” says The New Republic. But it means that taxpayers are not getting much bang for their bucks. S-CHIP also creates a trap for low-wage workers. Michael Cannon of the Cato Institute notes that, in combination with other welfare programs, S-CHIP levies a very high effective marginal tax rate on many such workers. If they work hard to make more money, that is, the resulting loss of benefits can put them behind where they started. Senate Democrats would finance the S-CHIP expansion by hiking cigarette taxes. These taxes fall most heavily on the poor; they cannot be hiked much further without stimulating black-market activity; and they will not raise the target amount of money unless a lot more people take up the newly expensive habit. (House Democrats would raise additional money by also kneecapping the private-sector component of Medicare.) A lot of children are going without health insurance for the same reasons that a lot of adults are: Government policies have made health markets dysfunctional. Instead of giving up on those markets and having the federal government pick up the tab, we should fix those policies. We could start by taking two steps the Bush administration advocates. The first is to reform the tax code so that individuals who buy health insurance for themselves can get the same tax break that employer-provided health insurance gets. The second is to allow individuals to cross state lines, and thus jump over their own states’ onerous mandates, to buy insurance. Cannon, the Cato Institute health-care expert, makes a strong case for a third step: treating S-CHIP and Medicaid the way we treat welfare. In 1996, we reformed welfare by block-granting it to the states. Similarly, Congress should give a set amount of money to the states to cover needy families. It should not reward the states for being more generous. The Democrats are in no mood to do any of these things. “Health insurance for kids” is a popular slogan, of course, and much of the business community is with the Democrats. Health-care providers are happy to get new subsidies, and some of them are afraid that Congress will ding them if they don’t get on board. If the Democrats agree to enact some free-market reforms, it might be worth supporting a modest expansion of S-CHIP. Otherwise, President Bush should make good on his veto threat.

Does anyone have Radiation gas in the home? I was going to buy a house with Radon which is a radioactive gas freed by the natural decay of radioactive substances in concrete. The Swedish government takes the hazard so seriously, that homeowners are offered grants of 50% of the cost of making safer those houses that have radon levels above the action level.
How has Bush protected your liberty? Do you feel "free"? Since Bush has been in office, the government has been granted (or taken) the following powers: Listen to your phone calls without warrant. Read your emails without warrant. Monitor your internet activity without warrant. Monitor the books you borrow from the library, without warrant. Monitor the groups you associate with. Search your house without warrant. Search your car without warrant. Collect "evidence" from those places, without warrant. On a whim, an American citizen can be declared an "enemy combatant", and: Detained without charge, in secret. Denied legal representation. Denied the right to question his detention. Shipped to a foreign country for interrogation, in secret. Tortured, in secret. Be tried by a military tribunal, in secret. NOT be granted access to the secret evidence against him. Convicted based on that secret evidence. What is the limit of personal freedom that you are willing to hand over to the government? Joseph C: I didn't ask about your physical well-being. I asked about your rights and freedoms as an American citizen. Sorry you didn't understand the question. smokehillfarm: Thanks for your answer, but you blew it when you said, "I feel a lot freer, and a whole lot SAFER, under conservative leadership than liberal, since liberals basically want to pull decisions once made at the local or State level, or by the individual, back to be decided by a pack of thieving bureaucrats in Washington DC." That is exactly what the Patriot Act does...and you can thank Bush and the Republican Congress for that. jere: Yes, I understand there are historical precedents, but none of those you mention have been codified into law like the Patriot Act. And I don't know if we're at WAR, or if it's just "combat"...because Bush refuses to call those people captured, "prisoners of war". If we are at war, then they should be treated according to the Geneva Conventions, right?
Editing help......??? If you have a few minutes to spare, could anyone please, please help me edit my paper. For many years, people have been debating how medical insurance should be paid: Whether private payment or government payment or some combination. Private payment means one would pay for ones own insurance. Government payment would mean the government pays for ones insurance. If the government were to pay for ones insurance, it would limit ones abilities. Also, Government already has to cover Medicare, Social Security, Government housing, the Federal Housing Committee, and the collapse of the Financial Institutions. To a lot of thoughtful people, the only way to fix the health insurance crisis in the United States is to get the federal government to cover everyone. In most states, individuals can be denied coverage for any number of reasons, so it is wise to request and compare more than one individual health insurance quote. The extra short-term effort that's required to apply for individual medical insurance plans is easily worth the long-term savings. If one is insuring ones family, as opposed to just oneself, there are some additional considerations to take into account. Even if one does receive coverage through an employer-sponsored health plan, one should consider the cost-saving benefits of switching to a family medical insurance policy or moving some of your family members off of your group policy into a family policy. Most Americans receive their health coverage through some type of group health insurance. Although large corporations with hundreds or even thousands of employees have the bargaining power to negotiate with medical insurance companies for custom health plans for their workers, the small business owner must still research options and compare prices from multiple providers. Since small business health insurance offers guaranteed coverage to all employees in a given company, it can be difficult and time consuming for a small business owner to find the best policy. Most major colleges and universities require their full-time students to have medical insurance. While many of these same schools also offer their own student health plan, it is wise to explore his or her options. Typically the school will provide the minimum requirements that a health policy must meet in order to waive coverage under the school's policy. As a senior over 65, one is likely covered under some combination of Medicare plans. Changes in recent years to the federal government's medical insurance program for seniors has created a complex system with rigid enrollment timelines. Currently, we have a mixed system, where the government heavily intervenes in health care. In Canada and Great Britain, they have fully governmental health care systems, but a black market of private medicine exists. The government regulates which drugs are available on the market, through the FDA and through the agencies that fight its War on Drugs. Currently, drug companies are granted monopoly privileges called "patents" that give them the exclusive right to sell their drug for 17 years. A few years ago, Congress passed legislation which actually outlawed the importation of cheaper drugs from other countries and prohibited the federal government's health insurance programs (such as Medicare and Medicaid) from negotiating for lower prices. This provision was repealed by the Democrats after they won control of Congress. Britain, Canada, Japan and a number of other rich countries do so, and they each spend less money on health care than the United States does. They also do not have major companies, like General Motors, flirting with bankruptcy in large part because of the cost of health benefits Health insurers made $100 billion in profits last year, and industries of that size are just not legislated out of business, said Jonathan Gruber, an economist. The party that controls the White House and Congress also opposes the idea. Republicans have their own utopian notions, which generally involve letting loose the free market for Americans to demand better care on their own. The discussion has basically been paralyzed for years. In the meantime, the problem has grown worse. In the United States, forty-six million people lack health insurance, according to the most recent estimate, up from thirty-one million in 1987. Massachusetts changed the terms of the debate. Governor Mitt Romney, a Republican, and the State Legislature, controlled by the Democrats, reached a deal to cover almost everyone in the state. The plan will cut the cost of health insurance for families that do not have it and make it free for many poor families. The state will also require every resident to have insurance or face a stiff fine. The plan breaks free of the usual ideological shackles by dealing with both of the big reasons that nearly one- sixth of the U.S. population lacks insurance. One, many people cannot afford it. Two, some who can afford it imagin
Who asked this question (hands down, one of the worlds longest questions)? Let me, if I could, go to the Civil Rights Restoration Act. In 1981, you support an effort by the Department of Education to reverse 17 years of civil right protections at colleges and universities that receive federal funds. Under the new regulations, the definition of federal assistance to colleges and universities would be narrow to exclude certain types of student loans and grants so that fewer institutions would be covered by the civil rights laws. As a result, more colleges and universities would legally be able to discriminate against people of color, women and the disabled. Your efforts to narrow the protection of the civil rights laws did not stop there, however. In 1984, in Grove City v. Bell, the Supreme Court decided, contrary to the Department of Education regulation that you supported, that student loans and grants did indeed constitute federal assistance to colleges for purposes of triggering civil rights protections. But, in a surprising twist, the court concluded that the nondiscrimination laws were intended to apply only to the specific program receiving the funds and not to the institution as a whole. Under that reasoning, a university that received federal aid in the form of tuition could not discriminate in admissions but was free to discriminate in athletics, housing, faculty hiring and any other programs that did not receive the direct funds. If the admissions office didn't discriminate, they got the funds through the admission office, they could discriminate in any other place of the university. A strong bipartisan majority in both the House and the Senate decided to pass another law, the Civil Rights Restoration Act, to make it clear that they intended to prohibit discrimination in all programs and activities of a university that received federal assistance. You vehemently opposed the Civil Rights Restoration Act. Even after the Grove City court found otherwise, you still believed that there was, quote -- and this is your quote -- a good deal of intuitive appeal to the argument that federal loans and grants to students should not be viewed as federal financial assistance to the university. You realize, of course, that these loans and grants to the students were paid to the university as tuition. Then, even though you acknowledged that the program-specific aspect of the Supreme Court decision was going to be overturned by the congressional legislation, you continued to believe that it would be, quote, too onerous for colleges to comply with nondiscrimination laws across the entire university unless it was, quote, on the basis of something more solid than federal aid to students. Judge Roberts, if your position prevailed, it would have been legal in many cases to discriminate in athletics for girls, women. It would have been legal to discriminate in the hiring of teachers. It would have been legal not to provide services or accommodations to the disabled. Do you still believe today that it is too onerous for the government to require universities that accept tuition payments from students who rely on federal grants and loans not to discriminate in any of their programs or activities?

Mr. Mikhail Makedonski interceded most in favor of my appointment, because I'm a Macedonian by birth and hold the services in the Slav language. Such was the Fate of my fatherland Macedonia, to suffer from the Greeks, so that they will not give us peace even today, although everyone knows that Macedonia is an older state then their kingdom. We had our own Slav educators, Cyril and Methodius, who left us our Slav alphabet. They were Macedonians born in Salonika, the glorious capital of Macedonia. Our Greek bishop does not admit this, so we do not want him to be our priest, but we want to have our own arch-priest, a Slav, for time everlasting. Amen. Pravo of 10/30/1870 (according to B. Koneski, Kon Makedonskata prerodba, p.68). February 1874 A letter from P.R. Slaveykov to the Bulgarian Exarch: Your Grace, I arrived in Salonika on the evening of the 14th of last month (January 1874). I immediately went to meet all the important local people and some others from the other Macedonian towns. My aim was to gather information as son as possible on what was to be necessary for the succes of the mission with which you had entrusted me. I first met Father Averkij Zografski, and the following day Father Petar Dimitrov as well, the local president of the community. I may inform you, Your Grace, that the wind from here, from Salonika, blows and scatters to all sides. These two clergyman, to my mind, are the leaders of the movement fot the restoration of the Archbishopric of Ohrid, although one should not neglect Ohrid and to certain extent Bitola, Veles and Skopje either. The Uniate movement here is not without roots, as they think in Constantinople, especially His Grace, Count Ignatiev. During the time I have been in Macedonia I have ascertained the same we had formerly known and written three years ago. Now, as then or twenty years ago, we are dealing with the Macedonian question. In talks with few Macedonian "patriots" I have understood that this movement, which had been only bare words till a few years ago, is now clear and precise thought - "The Macedonians are not Bulgarians" and they persistenly strive, regardless of the price, to obtain a separate church of their own. They also have the support in their separatism of smoe high clergyman in Constantinople, especially His Grace Nathaniel Ohridski, Panariot Plovdivski, and Archimandrite Hariton Karpuzov. I have understood this month from reliable sources that there are letters which arrive every day from Constantinople to the Salonika community, and are then sent to the other communities in the provinces. The letters are written in this spirit. One such letter, which the Salonika community sent to the community of Voden, calls upon the inhabitants of Voden to break off all their relations with theExarchate until the Macedonian Church question is settled, because "now is the moment". Mr. Kuzman Shapkarev from Ohrid, who is well known to us, has done a great deal to spread the idea of the restoration of the Archbishopric of Ohrid; he consatnly travels between Kukish and Ohrid and v.v., but at whose expanse, I do not know. Mr. Dimitar Makedonski, "the Macedonian textbook writer", is no less active, reciving salary as a teacher from the Exarchate and from local Lazarists. Owing to such unreasonable sermons by the Macedonian patriots that the church question has been settled only in favor of the Bulgarians, there is discontent among the people towrds the eparchies of th4 Danube and Adrianople vilayets as well as envy because of the earlier awakening of the Bulgarians. One can especially feel a great resistance against the East Bulgarian variant in literature. A general impression is that the local people think that the Macedonians have been done a great harm with the settlement of the church question in favor of the Danubian and Thracian Bulgarians. This discontent has already grown into distrust of the Exarchate and its higher echalons. and there is an attitude formed that the local Macedonian dialect should be declared a literary language and a Macedonian hiearchy established. Great attention, Your Grace, should be paid to His Grace Nathaniel, who promised the local people taht as soon as he comes to his eparchy he will take steps for the restoration of the Archbishopric of Ohrid. He seems to be connected with the Macedonian craftsman in Constantinople, among whom he spreads the news about the agreement with the Patriarchate. For their own part they inform their own people in Macedonia about this. It causes great discontent here. Consequently, separatism has its roots in the secret circle of Constantinople. If you press them there, the commotion wil calm down here. Silence the trumpet, there won't be any echo! The question of Father Nil is a highly delicate one, because he has barricaded himself in Kukush and does not want to return. His ambition seems to have made him to this. He stuffed his head with the thought of becoming the Archbishop of Ohrid ar at least Metropolitan of Salonika. As an Exarchate delegate he spreads the news about the agreement with the Patriarchate as the " most informed person". He decribes the Exarchate to the people as indifferent and passive in saving the Macedonian population from Greek spiritual slavery. Father Nil, who proved to be completely immature, seems to be a hireling of the highest Turkish vilayet authorities. However, his disobidiance to his headquarters began at the moment when he was summoned to return to Constantinople. Instead of obeying orders, he remained waiting there. His disobidiance also comes as a result of the suggestions that have been arriving from Constatinople. He maintains constant relations with Bishop Panaret and Nathaniel especially with the latter, who has suggested he stay in Macedonia until he gets an appointment for Ohrid and arrives in Macedonia. I think that Father Nil should be cast out of Macedonia at any cost and sent to Constatinople, because he is dangerous here. He already acts under the protection of the local Lazarists and the French consul. Thoughts of the restoration of the Archbishop of Ohrid at the moment are most prevalent here, in Salonika. Here the schemes are being devised and here the hotheads are gathering. These thoughts of course are not based upon mature foundation, especially since Midhat-Pasha has been dismissed from Salonika. But they are gradually spreading to northern Macedonia, although they are not very clear. Some say one thing to the people and others say another. There is danger, if steps are not taken from spme authoritative place, of creating a genral ideal. Then the consequences would be much more serious. The best thing would be if His Grace, Count Ignatiev, were to visit Macedonia, because the population feels a secret hope thet only Russia could help them. Tomorrow, with Gos's help, I intend to meet some of the elders from the local community. I shall try to convince them of the groundlessnes of their aspirations for a separarte Church when they already have one in the form of the Exarchate. Certainly the most difficult question will be that of the appointment of bishops of Macedonian origin and especially that of the cheirotonia of Father Hariton. I kiss Your Grace's right hand. Salonika, Fabruary 1874. Your obedient P.R. Slaveykov Another letter from P.R. Slaveykov: Your Grace, I sent you a letter via a trustworthy man two days ago, in which I briefly described to you the situation in Salonika and Macedonia in connection with the unreasonable movement for the restoration of the Archbishopric of Ohrid in union with the Roman Catholic Church. After the meeting with some of the local elders I have understood that there were everywhere wide discussions for a broader plan, namely, to create a Uniate Church in Macedonia. According to reliable sources, only the cheirotonia of Father Hariton is awaited before action will be taken. Until the blessing of the Pope for the proclamation of the Uniate Archbishopric of Ohrid arrives, the bishops with their eparchies will be constituent apart of the Uniate Church with their seat in Adrianople. Then Father Nathaniel will be appointed Archbishop of Ohrid and the following appointments will be made in the eparchies: Father Panaret for the Pelagonia eparchy, Brother Kozma Prechistenski for the Debar eparchy, Father Nil Izvorov for the Salonika eparchy and Father Dorotej for the Skopje eparchy. The other eparchies, for which there are no candidates proposed, will temporarily be governed by the neighboring archpriests. Father Nil will be Bishop of Salonika, Kukush and Voden. Father Hariton, after his ordination, will also become bishop of the Serez and Melnik eparchies. Father Dionisij, as an archimandrite, will temporarily govern the Strumica eparchy. I have personal impression, Your Grace, that nobody here is asking for a real union with the Roman Catholic Church. It is simply a means of restoration of the Archbishopric of Ohrid. Catholic circles also feel this and therefore have no great confidence in the people with whom they are negotiating. So I do not think it is too late to actin order to overcome the discontent, which later could be subdued. The Uniate movement is more dangerous in the places where formerly there was a Union because of similar reasons. Kukush comes in the first place, followed by Dojran with sympathy from Strumica, Maleshevo and Voden. The Salonika, Serez, Melnik and Drama villages lag behind them. There is not any powerful stirring of the Uniate propaganda indeed, but where there is smoke there must be fire. The appointment of Bishop Nil is expected for the fire to blaze forth. The Poljanin eparchy will immediately turn into a Union and the Strumica and Voden eparchies will join in, as well as a huge number of villages in Salonika, Drama, Serres and other eparchies. The other Macedonian eparchies will certainly be shattered, too, first the Veles eparchy and then the Skopje one. The Veles eparchy is also dissatisfied with its bishop, Damaskin, while at the same time the citizens of Veles, aroused by a craving for power, believe that they should govern Macedonia in religious matters. The causes of such a situation in the whole of Macedonia are very obvious. The Macedonian eparchies and towns I have already mentioned are extremely embittered by the serious position of the Church and the people in which they find themselves. The spreading of the idea of restoration of the Archbishopric of Ohrid upon an Uniate basis is also helped by the French and Austrian consuls, who promise full protection before the Turkish authorities and persecution of the Constantinople Patriarchate. The Greeks themselves indirectly help the spreading of the Union in Macedonia, expecting the Exarchate to become weak because of the Union and thus finding allies in the liquidation of the Catholic propaganda in Macedonia. I have concluded this from the talks I had with the Greek consul in Salonika. He was not in the least worried at the danger of the spread of the Union in Macedonia. On the contrary, Greece is seeking support for its economic and national activity in Macedonia. According to the opinion of the Greek consul, the part of the people who will not accept the Union, disillusioned with the Exarchate, will remain under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate. In the talks I had it was not by chance that the agents and adherents of the Union mentioned that the "Macedonian question" could only be settled through the Union. In order to make full use of the discontent and bitterness of the people against the Exarchate, they strengthen their accusation against the Exarchate. They speak about the Macedonian question upon a religious basis, but at the same time stir up the old separatist trends among the Macedonians - to create a new ethnic region through the Union - in the spirit of Midhat-Pasha's schemes. As the Roman Catholic agents worked out a cultural and national program for the Union in 1860 for the liberation of the Bulgarian people from the Patriarchate, they now also appear with a specific program for the spiritual and national liberation of the Macedonian eparchies through the Union. The Macedonian activists already widely use the expression the Macedonian movement in their language of communication, by which one should understand independent national and church liberation. I must emphasize strongly, Your Excellency, that this is a factor of an important political character - separatism is being spread starting from a religious basis towards a broader national one. After the talks I had with Father Petar Dimov I felt that he has slowly retired from being drawn into the Union. Today he has officially renounced the Union and sent a letter to You expressing his loyalty to the Exarchate. I also talked to Father Averkij. He told me that he would also withdraw from the movement if appointments for the Exarchate bishops were issued by the autumn. My attitude towards these two Church dignitaries was moderate and friendly, because any repressive measures could stir up spirits. .... Your spiritual child P.R. Slaveykov S. But I would not have to persuade you too long, my dearest brother in Christ, that our Holy Exarchate, with its religious and educational activity here, in Macedonia, in fact carries out a most miserable task, it deprives a people of its name and replaces it with another, it deprives them of their mother tongue and replaces it with another, alien one, in order to allow its government and its Bulgarian masters to extend their commerce to foreign territories, too. And what else would you call this, my dear brother, other then a new slavery, even more terrible then the Turkish one? The Turks take the property and the lives of the people, but do not encroach upon their spirit. They destroy the body but respect the soul. And our Holy Exarchate kills the latter, the perpetual... I have written this to you, so that you would not be amazed by my previous letter in which I stated my opinion that we clergyman, Macedonians in origin, should unite and urge our people to awaken, throw off foreign authority, throw off even the Patriarchate and the Exarchate, and spiritually unified under the wing of the Archbishopric of Ohrid, their only true Mother Church. Is it not high time to put an end to the national movements of a single people among which some recognize the Patriarchate, some the Exarchate and some even bow to Mohammed? Is it not high time to put an end to hatred between blood brothers? And how could this be achieved if not by the way of our national Church , by way of the Archbishopric of Ohrid? I shall be sincere, my dear brother in Christ, and shall openly declare to you: we, the Macedonians, to not suffer as much by the Turks, long live our Padishah, as by the Greeks, the Bulgarians and the Serbs, who have set upon us like vultures upon a carcass in this tortured land and want to split it up. December 4, 1891 Theodosius, Metropolitan of Skopje, to Pope Leo XIII I, the undersigned Metropolitan of Skopje, Theodosius, by God's Mercy head of Skopje eparchy, am submitting this request both in my name and in the name of of the whole Orthodox flock of Macedonia, in which we are begging His Holiness to accept us under the wing of the Roman Catholic Church...Our desire springs from the historical right of the Orthodox Macedonian people to be freed from the jurisdiction of foreign Churches - the Bulgarian Exarchate and the Constantinople Patriarchate - ....The borders of the Archbishopric should conform to the present borders of Macedonia... August 20, 1892 Serbian Consul in Bitola, Dimitrije Bodi, to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vladan Djordjevic, in Belgrade. I have to inform you, dear Sir, that some intellectualist movement among the local teachers has recently appeared in the town of Kostur, which insists upon rejection of Greek and Bulgarian propaganda, and the introduction of the Macedonian dialect as the language of teaching in the schools. This initiative has in fact been started....If you are interested in these matters, Sir, please answer me with a ciphered telegram. DA - DSIP. P odd.I red 278 (1892). August 26, 1892 Serbian Consul in Bitola, Dimitrije Bodi, to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Vladan Djordjevic, in Belgrade. ....I have heard from my own people that the local community at its meeting of 22nd Auguts this year, decided that the teaching in the new 1892/1893 school year should be done in the Macedonian dialect. The town teachers were given the task of working a program for the language teaching and a provisional grammar of the Macedonian dialect.... DA - DSIP. It borders on the south with Epirus, Thessaly and the Mediterranean, on the east with Thrace and the Mediterranean, on the north with Mount Hemus, Bulgaria and Serbia and with Albania on the west....Macedonia, as the homeland of the two greatest personalities of the Ancient World - Aristotle and Alexander the Great, who conquered the world. should it anew conquer its independence and its autonomy?...And if an autonomous Macedonian administration were to be introduced in this land in ten years only, it would be the earthly paradise of the world...The small states - the Greek, Bulgaria and Serbian ones -argue for the acquisition of Macedonia, using all kinds of proofs - chauvinist and historical - invented in support of their interests, while no one seems to realize that if the historical truth were to be respected, Macedonia should rather have the right to possess all those countries, which would like to devour it, since once it governed and ruled them itself....The Macedonians do not want the kind of caresses which may strangle them. (Paris), Pour 1896, pp. 240-244. 1897 From "Maleshevski Balkan" journal: At Least Do Not Hinder Us There is hardly any harsher situation then that of the Macedonian cause. Aroused by sympathy, feelings and tradition to maintain always the closest links with its direct neighbors, the Bulgarians, Serbs, and others, today it surprises us most mercilessly and makes us repent. Nobody, undoubtedly nobody, would deny the justification of our hopes in the Bulgarians and the Serbs, as people who stand closest to us, as people with the same past as ours, etc. ... From "Maleshevski Balkan", Sofia, I, 16, 1 (1897). 1897 William Gladstone ...Next to the Ottoman Govt. nothing can be more deplorable and blameworthy then jealousies between Greek and Slav, and plans by the States already existing for appropriating other territory. Why not Macedonia for Macedonians, as well as Bulgaria for Bulgarians and Servia for Servians. And if they are small and weak, let them bind themselves together for defence, so that they may not be devoured by others, either great and small, which would probably be the effect of their quarreling among themselves. The Times (London), 6th January 1897, p.12 1898 Petar Mandzukov to Kostadin Kirkov ...Perhaps our slavery would not have been so difficult if various kinds of propaganda had not interfered in our affairs, which under the name of "brothers" and "benefactors" divide brothers from brothers and make the Turks commit the worst of crimes. Those "brothers" of ours do everything possible to prevent the unity of our freedom-loving forces. And what has been the result of such propaganda? Even the true sons of our country, those whoa re really not afraid to sacrifice their lives at the altar of our Fatherland, often wrongly think that the liberation of Macedonia could not be conceived without the interference of this or that state. They go over to the side of this or that people and forget their own people. Instead of uniting their forces in favor of their own people and striving in unison to liberate it from bondage, they cannot agree whom they should serve. We know, Kostadin, that our fatherland differs by its population from one Bulgaria, Greece or Serbia, which are homogenous countries. There are various nationalities and religions in our country. There are Macedonians, Greeks, Wallachians, Turks, Jews, Albanians, even a few Armenians. and let us not forget the Gypsies.... Following the course of history, we see how the star of Macedonia shone with the same intensity. It plays the chief role in the revival of the Slav people. Thus, the two brothers exalted to apostles, Cyril and Methodius, objects of general admiration for the Slav world, are Macedonians, and owing to the very existence of these two apostles, this small land becomes the cradle of the Slav people to whom it gives its religion and art...The inhabitants of Macedonia do not want to be annexed either to Bulgaria or Serbia, or Greece; they want, they want so strongly, to live a human life in an autonomous country. Their slogan is: Macedonia to the Macedonians. A. Brutus, A Propos d'un Mouvement en Macedonie, Bruxelles 1900, pp.12-13, 15, 56. 1901 A.V. Amfiteatrov: The Land of Discord Each Slav should and is obliged to feel sympathy for Macedonian freedom. But Macedonian freedom cannot be achieved with their own, Macedonian means. The land is too small and weak to fight against the power of Constantinople, which only has to give a sign and tens of thousands of soldiers will attack the Rumalian vilayets and strangle them like mice before Europe could compose itself, even before Europe could know it. Hence, Macedonia cannot be freed with its own forces. Only an evil enemy, an unconscious enemy of Slavism could desire an armed movement in Macedonia now when the land is totally unprepared for an uprising, in circumstances of tied hands of the whole Europe, of Serbo-Bulgarian clashes, of huge preparations of the Turks against the slightest possibilities of movement. Or a real fool. These were the exact words of one of the high-ranking persons deciding the fate of Balkan Slavism in a discussion with me concerning the Macedonian committees. Nobody in Europe, none of the Great Powers can actively intercede in favor of the Macedonians against the Turks at the present moment - except, perhaps, Austria. Bu the very name of Austria causes panic in the Macedonian Slav element, who will allow Austria to reign in Macedonia? For it would be the destruction of all ideas of pan-Slavism, it would be the end of the Eastern Question, it would be the decisive and last victory of the German world over the Slav world. Then, we the Russians, would only be humbly left to falling out of step with that state with the projected historical tasks, with the repudiation of racial ideals - a state similar to modern Italy or Spain, only in greater proportions. The young Slav states, adjacent to Macedonia, are too young and too poor to go into struggle for it. At the same time, these states are disintegrating both from the internal situation and external family hostilities. The Bulgarians and the Serbians cannot stand each other; each consider Macedonia as their lawful property. Neither the Bulgarians nor the Serbs have even the slightest desire to create Macedonia for Macedonia. Enthusiast for an autonomous Macedonia can only be found among the Macedonian natives. Neither the Serb nor the Bulgarian wants the autonomy of Macedonia. As far as the question of whether Macedonia should become Bulgarian or Serbian is concerned, every Bulgarian would tell you with utter sincerity: -It would be better that the Turks ruled there eternally then to give the Serbs a chance to spread towards the Aegean Sea. And the Serb would say: - It would be better that the Turks did there whatever they allow your damned brothers to achieve their Greater Bulgaria from one sea to the other! The question of nationality has not been settled in Macedonia and it is hard to assume that it will ever be settled in a satisfactory manner. If we are to believe Gopcevic and Jasterbov there are almost no Bulgarians - all of the are Serbs. If we are to believe Ofejkov and Miljukov, there are no Serbs, all of them are Bulgarians. It is more probable that where we are dealing with a perfectly branch of Slavs, transitional between the Bulgarians and the Serbs. But that branch taken alone is insufficiently significant to win its freedom and turn itself into a state unit. Consequently, no matter how the question of its nationality is resolved, it is deprived of the possibility to exist, so to say; it is cursed in itself to serve as political material directly for its neighbors, and deviously and indirectly for Europe, which governs its naighbours. The basic reason for the failures of the Macedonian revolutionary organization lies in the fact that it is fed by means that have historically proved their ineffectiveness against state order of a European kind to overthrow the system and authority that have nothing in common with European order; since with the tactics, which have overthrown many European government, it attempts to erase military slavery, which has continued in Macedonia and Old Serbia for five centuries now; since the arms, victorious in the civil war, are also used in external war, because the Turk is not a fellow-citizen and compatriot of the Slavs, but he was, is and will be their external enemy... - They consider me a Bulgarophile, I.A. Zinovjev told me. But it isn't so at all. I behave in perfectly equal manner to all Slavs, and, if a person is decent and likable, it is all the same to me whether he is a Bulgarian, a Serb or a Macedonian. But I am a Russian representative and I have been sent here to protect, first of all, Russian interests. Permanent patronage over the Balkan Slavs is inseparably linked with Russian interests. We are their natural patrons. But this patronage does not mean Russia's following of Slav leaders; patronage is not characterless yielding. However, as far as the Macedonian question is concerned, the Bulgarians, as our most spoilt children in the whole of the Slav world, would like precisely to lead Russia with them where they have blindly started closing their eyes, demanding that the patronage be turned into yielding. The activities of the Macedonian committees, long under the patronage (with) our tolerance of the Bulgarian government, had the following direct calculation: - We shall force the Turks to abandon their reserved behavior they have taken up and borne with difficulty - wit a series of small explosions, murders and blackmails we shall arose the fanatic excitement of the Moslems, the Sultan will be forced to give in to the demands of his subjects of the same faith, and Turkish atrocities will start in Macedonia, blood will be shed, villages will be burnt. For the attainment of the sublime goal it is of no consequence whether fifty or fifty thousand people will be killed - the main thing is: slaughter must be caused, which will in turn cause the necessity of European intervention, and since the protection of the Slavs is the perennial deed of Russia and it will never leave the Macedonian question to Austria - consequently, volens-nolens, Russia shall have to send again hundred of thousands of soldiers to the Balkan Peninsula and achieve the freedom of Macedonia with its bayonets, i.e. it should put the land into the mouth of the Bulgarians. For they don't recognize any other nationality in Macedonia except the Bulgarian one. Consequently, the future freedom of Macedonia for them is either the fulfillment of the Treaty of San Stefano and unification of Macedonia with the Bulgarian Principality, or a creation of a new autonomous Bulgarian body, which will sooner or later be merged with the former into an 'integral Bulgaria'.... The ambition for a small homeland, the egotism of a small nation, is not the ultimate ideal of the Macedonians. To replace Turkish subjugation with Greek, Serbian or Bulgarian dependence does not seem to them to represent some great gain...Until recently France did not know the Macedonians. They were Thracian, Peons, Sclavins for us, a wild and almost a mythical people, that lived somewhere at the bottom of some unknown land for us. We either did not know them or despised them, since we heard of them from the malicious notes of the ancient and modern Greeks... La Revue de Paris, Juin 1903. 1904 A Macedonian Theory Was it so long before the liberation of the Bulgarians that throughout Bulgaria, in answer to the question as to what they were (by nationality), the Bulgarians said they were "Christians" or raya (non-Moslem Turkish subjects)? And even now it is not so rare on occasion to hear a Bulgarian answering in court as to the question of his nationality that he is a "Christian". The notion of nationality has still not become a new accomplishment of his mind. During the Turkish period, the Bulgarian peasant referred to the Bulgarians in the towns as "Greeks" and city lother were "Greek dress" for him. And since the Greeks designated that peasant as a "fat-headed Bulgar", his brother from the town loved to be called a "Hellene", so that he should not be scorned for his real national name. It is not exactly the same case with what Mr. Misirkov elaborates concerning the name of the Macedonian Slav? The name "Bulgar" fell even in Bulgaria to such position which earned only the contempt of the others. This name appeared so empty even in the mouth of the Bulgarians themselves that it became a synonym for "Christian"; the later designated the whole ethnic contents of Bulgarian individual and social consciousness. When our peasant used to say "we are Bulgars", he meant "we are Christians", i.e. Orthodox. The Russian Tsar was a "Bulgarian Tsar" for him not by nationality, but by Orthodox Christianity. A. Teodorov-Balan, Edna makedonska teorija - Periodichesko spisanie (Sofia), LXV (1904), p.818 1907-1908 The Macedonian Villages ...I asked him what language they spoke, and my Greek interpreter carelessly rendered the answer Bulgare. The man himself had said Makedonski. I drew attention to this word and the witness explained that he did not consider the rural dialect used in Macedonia the same as Bulgarian, and refused to call it by that name. It was Macedonian, a word to which he gave the Slav form of Makedonski, but which I was to hear farther north in the Greek form of Makedonike. And so the "Bulgarophone" villagers are no longer willing to admit that they speak Bulgarian. They have coined a new term of their own accord, and henceforth their dialect, until they have got rid of it, is to be known as "Macedonian". My Athenian friends were delighted when I told them of this on my return. It should give even greater pleasure to those Bulgarian agents who are so anxious to see the Macedonians thought they are Macedonians. Allen Upward, The East End of Europe, London 1908, pp. 204-205 June 25, 1910 Archimandrite Neophyte in Skopje to Bulgarian Exarch Joseph in Constantinople: Starting from some time ago, as I have already informed You several times, matters in the eparchy, and especially here have not developed as they should. The Eparchy Council, which, as You know, consists of the town's elders, has decided to send You a letter in which it strongly condemns the candidature of the former Metropolitan of Skopje, Theodosius, and among other things, upon my suggestion writes the following in the protest: "Outraged, we read in the newspapers that a group of villains wishes at any cost to urge the population - the voters of the Skopje Eparchy - to bring back that typical intransigent, Theodosious, as the Metropolitan of the Skopje Eparchy. This is the same Theodosius who 17 or 18 years ago wanted to separate the Skopje Eparchy from the Exarchate and proclaim himself an independent Metropolitan. For this purpose, he then made a special seal on which he deleted the words "Bulgarian Exarchate", so sacred to us, and printed his own baptismal certificates, marriage certificates and other documents; he did not fulfill the circular letters and the orders of the Exarchate, etc. Yet, since at that time there were not such a strong anti-Bulgarian movement among the local Bulgarians, it was possible for the Exarchate to remove this dangerous schismatic in time and thereby preserve the unity of the Bulgarian Church in Turkey. Now this same schismatic, contrary to Exarchist interests, wishes to restore his eparchy and continue his dishonest business of disuniting our Bulgarian people. We protest most strongly against his nomination as Metropolitan of Skopje, because he insults the Bulgarian feeling among the population". Unfortunately, Your Grace, if the Eparchy Council has such people with common sense, this is not the case with some craftsman's circles, which have come under the influence of Mr. Petar Pop Arsov, a teacher, who has taken the idea into his head that he is a leader of the people. He constantly speaks against the Exarchate and its leadership, including myself, and urges the craftsman to support Metropolitan Theodosios' candidature, since he once suffered for defending the interests of the Macedonians. It would not be superfluous if I informed You about another problem, which, I presume, will represent a kind of plot in this whole election propaganda. I have understood from some members of the Council that Krste Petkov, who at one time started "Misirkovism", had requested from certain relative of his, living here in Skopje, that he put him in touch with this teacher, Petar Pop Arsov, in connection with collecting songs about Krale Marko in the Skopje district, and Mr. Pop Arsov was so kind as to agree immediately. I am writing this to you, Your Grace, a justified suspicion that schismatic forces are being brought to life here. The said Mr. Krste Misirkov expressed in a letter to his relative has desire to return to Macedonia, more precisely, to come to Skopje as soon as Macedonia was liberated. The man wished to be a professor at the Skopje university (?!). If this is true, and there are no reasons for lying to me, then You may conclude Yourself what danger threatens the Bulgarian idea in these historic times. Just imagine if the "Misirkovism" of Mr. Krste, the "separatism' of His Grace Theodosius and the "autonomism" of Mr. Petar Pop Arsov joined together! I am of the opinion, Your Grace, upon the basis of the protest by the Eparchy Council (which was, after all, published in the press) that the candidature of His Grace Theodosius should be withdrawn, by which a danger of as yet unseen proportions for the Bulgarian cause in Macedonia would be evaded. I remain Your Grace's younger brother in Jesus Christ and I pray for You. S. Dimevski, Diskusija - K.P. D. Gruev again visited me last Saturday. D. Hristov also chanced to be in my house, so we spent more then 3 hours in discussion. The Macedonians have been afraid that the Bulgarians and we agreed to divide them, and accordingly they are the only ones left to frown at the Imperial Alliance. They suspect it hides something else. They continually make agreements and preparations but undertake nothing more serious. They constantly send smaller bands and ammunition into their country. All their activity is reduced to this only in present. They would like to make an agreement with us, but such as to sacrifice nothing of what they call their autonomy. They have come to see more and more that there are obstacles before them which they cannot fight successfully, and under the influence of which they continually lose their importance as an authoritative factor in the development of the Maced(onian) question. This is what hurts them immensely. They are divided among themselves, just as before. The differences of their views also intensify their personal hatred, which makes some of them avoid the others, plotting among themselves....Unfavorable rumors reach us from Macedonia, too. The people, craving for freedom, would like to reject their yoke and uncertainty as soon as possible, so that they would be ready for some decisive steps as well, but their distrust both of their leaders and Bulgaria prevent them. Under the influence of the news about the Imperial Alliance a mood has been created in which they would like to be freed from their yoke at any cost, even if they were compelled to come under Bulgaria and Serbia. And if these two did not help them, they would gladly accept Austrian occupation, as well... Arhiv SFR Jugoslavije (Belgrade) - Fond Jovan Jovanovic-Pizon, 80 (1905). 1906 To my brother in arms, Dushan, voyvoda from the village of Bistrica Brother, you should know that I have received your letter and understood all that you wrote me. We have put the people in great trouble, it is true, but who is to blame for this? You say we are to blame, we say you are to blame. As far as I know, ten years have passed (and) has never been over those years any bloodshed between ourselves or division into Serbomans or Bulgarophils. We have been Macedonian fighters and we will fight to the end for the Macedonian people, but we do not fight for Bulgaria or Serbia, nor Greece; they are free and live freely and drink in shaded inns; they have the right to drink so since they shed their blood earlier. We, who come from this Macedonian land should work for Macedonia, because our Macedonian brothers are murdered on the roads and our Macedonian sisters are disgraced by the bloody Turk, by the fat Turk. We are not against any nationality of either Bulgaria, Serbia, or Greece; we should recognize the merit of those who would help us. If there had been any Serbian, Bulgarian or Greek land here, they should not have waited for us to die in the mountains but should have liberated Macedonia with their armies; only then they could have demanded Serbia, Bulgarian or Greek land here... Blazhe Krusheski DA SSID - Fond Izvrshnog odbora Srpske narodne organizacije F-6 (1906) 1912 A.V. Amfiteatrov: Macedonia ...Following the Russian war, Turkey of the old regime finally turned into a "sick man", and the heirs of the executors of the expected will gathered around his death-bed. The future destiny of Macedonia came to depend not as much on the will of Turkey itself as on the sympathies of the European guardians. In the 19th century Europe learned through Germany, Italy and Greece to consider the right to national self-determination a little. Thus, all the states and countries bordering on Macedonia have started intensive propaganda in favor of their nationalities, as it were a race or along jump for an award. They have taken care, as much as they have means and power, to persuade Europe by truth and lies, that allegedly the national self-determination of the Macedonian inclines in their favor, and not in favor of the neighboring nation. In this respect the Bulgarians proved more swift the their rivals. In order to make Macedonia Bulgarian, they had to Bulgarize the Macedonians. Thus, following the Bulgaro-Serbian War of 1885, the greatest powers and considerable sacrifices of the Bulgarian state apparatus were given to the Bulgarization of the Macedonian Slavs. Bulgarian agents were the priests and the teachers; the
What do those of you who believe that the media are injustice, think of this? I think reading this in 5-10 minutes would be better than listening to the news for a lifteime.Plz don't think I'm a very old person.Just 18.A university student studying English who just cannot sit back and hope. This article has two parts: 1.Cultural and general info and music 2.political info.If you wanna get enlightened and shocked read it from top to bottom. Hi.I'm Iranian and I live in Iran. When I chat with people from other countries, I understand that they have totally wrong ideas about Iran.I just wrote this article to correct you. The first thing they accuse our government of, is that they don't let you be free.Actually, Iranians would be some of the most liberal people in the world (liberal meaning not obeying laws that they don't like).Thousands of millions of strict rules in other countries, don't even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa. That's why you don't understand a few of Iran's laws.In Iran every single house has a sattelite. Sattelite channels had a serious influence on people, they wear very fashionable clothes.Maybe it's a kind of immitation, but still it's got an unique Iranian style. You'll see lots of beauty qeens on the streets that are just like models advertising fashionable clothes! Most part of their hair is out and they wear a lot of make up, also wearing scarves is a part of our culture.Iran is one of the super-consumers of cosmics (which is bad for our economy)! People do whatever they wish to and some of the things they do, don't fit our culture at all, however it's normal in Iran. You'll be surprised seeing the difference between what you imagined before and how the real Iran is! It's wonderful.Everything's so great if you don't take unemployment, inflation and air pollution into account which I guess are common problems in many other countries. Many things have changed so far.I can't even compare Iran with 5 years ago, let alone comparing it with 30 years ago!!!! After all, nearly 65-70% of Iran's population is considered the new generation (The youth) and they've transformed everything. Some people think women don't have any rights in Iran! Women are overtaking Iran. They're treated very well. They're the winners in most cases: They get into the best universities cos they're so clever. They get the best jobs cos they can do jobs much better than men. They've got rights that have made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women will have the right to ask them a great amount of money according to the law which most husbands cannot afford, so they'll be imprisoned. The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that's just because in Iran such places are usually full of cheeky guys who would cheek girls. They do anything from taking part in rallies to singing DJ / pop songs.Anything! I've put a sample here.I feel foolish for sitting here explaining ordinary things to you. Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery.Have you ever asked yourselves they relate to how many years ago?Just for your information, those are from Afghanistan which was ruled by those freaks (Taliban). When you think of such things, try to think of the racism in your country too.I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are SEPERATE COUNTRIES! and that 60% of Iranians are Persian and 30% are Turkish! I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other countries in the world. There's nothing mysterious about it!(The media are very good at making scary titles: BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!! IRAN UNDERCOVER!!! This would be enough to scare people away! Iranians are much more educated, intelligent and open-minded than what you think!!! I'm sure you don't know that there are lots and lots of Iranian geniouses and scientists that are all under 25.You don't hear about their discoveries and inventions on TV. For instance this 17 year old boy has invented 72 amazing inventions and there are many many KIDS like that. You don't know that Iranian students and sportsmen win gold and silver medals in different compotitions in the world all the time such as robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don't the media talk about them? They just can't summerise everything in one word "nuclear", although we're proud of it cos having nuclear energy means a country is developed.Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran A few months ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and it was signing treaties with other countries to export it.I digged the news on the internet, but there was no single sign of that. What did I find instead? "President Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!"(The same old story!) The media are injustice. They put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they never talk about facts! Some interesting facts: Iran is the pionier in medicine and genetics and Iranian surgens have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects and many other diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the best brain and heart surgens are Iranian surgens. The head of Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designers of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian.Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering.Holds the second place in building dams and holds records in loads of other things! The list is endless. It's now 2007 and people still think we are uneducated people living in deserts, riding camels and carrying around guns!!!! See how the media are fooling people? None of the things you hear on the media about Iran are true. Let's clarify some political issues as well: Some of the Americans I chatted with, said in the U.S it's said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The media are good at putting comments. It's easy to show a video or an image of our president or leader on the T.V screen or on the internet and say he says this, he says that.....I really don't get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about things that have got nothing to do with us.For example does verbal defence of Palestinians cause them to have a better life? The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. For example they pick up some specific phrases of a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and put so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it for granted. First of all, Iranians don't hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it's not bad.Is it? (Although what we want them is to not to get us into trouble by talking about things that are none of our concern.) We hate neither Jews nor Americans.I love Americans otherwise why would I talk to them?! How would our guys dream of America, be like them as much as possible and hate it at the same time?! Although ordinary Iranians don't care much about world affairs, I've got to say that for us Israel is not equal with Jews! Israel is a govt.Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of Iranians. No difference. And two of Iran's parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force others to convert to Islam?Have you ever found a Muslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?It's so funny the way you imagine things and make yourselves believe in your own immaginations! Christians and Jews are both God believers and respectful to us.I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion would be the least important thing. It means that where you come from and what your religion is, are not important to us at all.On the contrary, meeting different people would be so interesting for us! I love the Japanese who come here! I wonder Iran is a threat to whom. Which logical rule admits that it's logical to say a country is guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that she's going to do something wrong?!!!! And they repeat the same "nuclear" tosh over and over and brain wash people! News headlines: "We won't allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons"!!! Has Iran ever attacked any countries? No.Has it developed any nukes? No!That's what nuclear agency says.Only Iran's oppositions are pulling Iran's leg and what they say is of no credit. It's just based on political conflicts. What we're doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It's the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could easily invade the countries in our neibourhood just like what Seddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relationships with all of them.It could be a good example to some countries that just follow their interests. What is interesting is that the countries which accuse Iran of different things have been, and are still accused of the same things!!! This is a modern and innovative form of philosophy and logic! Some people say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! But have they told you the rest of his speech and that why he's said this at all?You know that it's a passive sentence. He's never said that IRAN wants to wipe Israel off the map! He wasn't talking about destroying Israel. He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they could both live in peace. They've only told you this phrase not the whole thing and it's mistranslated intentionally.Iran's always defended itself, but it's not an offensive country. Some say he's said: Holocaust is a myth! again this is a single phrase from among a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so.If 6000000 Jews were killed, that's so terrible, but those 300000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren't important at all! Over 650000 Iraqi people are killed and it's not important! When Fox News simply says: America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing all Iran's 69000000 population within two weeks, it's OK and no one says they're threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima & Nakazaki and vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you'd get the point why he's IRONICALLY said it's a mith. Moreover, don't you believe in freedom of speech/mind? Obviousely, some countries are using Iran as a victim to put the blame (their own faults) on Iran. And which country is better than Iran to be a victim? They've made the whole world believe that Iran isn't a peaceful country and represent false image of Iranians by making insulting movies like "300" . Anyone saying that it was not for political reasons is wrong. I know Americans don't like these either, but what can they do?They're not responsible for controlling what the media say.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world. This part is just for Americans who would still argue over unimportant things: Those of you who say why Iran says "Death to America": 1.America means the U.S govt not the people 2.The new generation don't say such things and if some of them occasionally march in the streets that's because some of the stupid guys enjoy making noise and they mainly go out there to meet their girlfreids/boyfriends! Strange.Isn't it? 3.Such mottos are not just said in Iran and as you know whatever you hear is a response to the U.S govt's terrible actions which has made life for many people hell (You wouldn't deny that attacking countries is a mistake.right?) 5.The U.S gov't helped Seddam to attack Iran and I hope you know which country gave Iraq biological weapons which killed lots of Iranians 6.America hit an Iranian airplane over the Persian Gulf and killed 200 passengers for no reason 7.It's always botherng Iran by sanctions, displaying false image of Iran and Iranians, scares tourists away from Iran and is always harmful to our economy, development and credit 8.It's always despised the Iranians who travel to the U.S at their arrival (even ordinary ones, university students, sportsmen, scientists etc) To those who are upset with American hostages taken for 444 days: 1.Firstly, It's related to so many years ago and almost a part of history and don't forget that when there's a revolution, there'd be cheos and people may do things that they should not, moreover they're all alive and healthy.Aren't they? 2.The U.S has arrested Iranian diplomats in Iraq and keeps denying that they're diplomats. Now you decide who has the right to be upset with whom. It's exceeded the level of tit for tat. Isn't it better for both countries to forget about the past conflicts and to have peaceful relations? The two govts are like 10 year old children playing a game by harsh rhetoric. They don't care about hurting people's feeling. They just try to show that the people are enemies of each other to achieve their own goals. We as the people of these countries MUST NOT have any conflics. You know something? All govts are hateful.I just said the above things because it sounds unfair when some Americans talk about 444 hostage taking and I keep being silent.I hope you agree on this one! Now, what do you think?I can't wait to see both nations in peace. It'd be marvelous! Would this happen in less than 2 years? You know what I mean! Remember that: The sea is deeper. You don't always have to see the surface of it. Plz whenever you have time, find and read an article about "ethnocentrism".Knowing the meaning of this term is not enough. After reading about it, you'll feel a noticable positive change in your attitude towards different people! Guaranteed! Thanks for your time.
Are evangelical churches today a legitimate place of worship, or a legal racket? I used to attend this evangelical church where the minister was constantly obsessed with money. Not only would he include tithing in his sermons every single Sunday but he would also make collections for "African missions" "a fellow minister in the hospital" or any other excuse where money could be collected. Meanwhile, when I was unemployed they refused to help me with rent, utilities or food. The minister and his wife wore designer clothes and lived in a lavish mansion. They would invite other evangelists such as Mike Murdoch and Jesse Duplantis to speak at their church. I doubt these gentlemen would do so for free. And then the government adds insult to injury in granting these greedy bastards tax-free status. So what do you think? Are you blind enough to think that this is a legitimate house of worship.... or are you intelligent enough to think that this is a legal racket? This church is far from unique. To Cutie Pie (#14): Calling it a "love offering" won't change the facts. Also, as far as "tithing" all of us do tithe whether we go to church or not, often triple-fold to quintuple-fold, but there is another name for it: TAXES.
Is FISA yet another infringement of our Constitutional rights - and giving retroactive immunity to violators? "(PressMediaWire) April 07, 2008 Congressman Ron Paul's statement on the emerging surveillance bill - Last month, the House amended the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to expand the government’s ability to monitor our private communications. This measure, if it becomes law, will result in more warrantless government surveillance of innocent American citizens. Though some opponents claimed that the only controversial part of this legislation was its grant of immunity to telecommunications companies, there is much more to be wary of in the bill. In the House version, Title II, Section 801, extends immunity from prosecution of civil legal action to people and companies including any provider of an electronic communication service, any provider of a remote computing service, “any other communication service provider who has access to wire or electronic communications,” any “parent, subsidiary, affiliate, successor, or assignee” of such company, any “officer, employee, or agent” of any such company, and any “landlord, custodian, or other person who may be authorized or required to furnish assistance.” The Senate version goes even further by granting retroactive immunity to such entities that may have broken the law in the past. The new FISA bill allows the federal government to compel many more types of companies and individuals to grant the government access to our communications without a warrant. The provisions in the legislation designed to protect Americans from warrantless surveillance are full of loopholes and ambiguities. There is no blanket prohibition against listening in on all American citizens without a warrant. We have been told that this power to listen in on communications is legal and only targets terrorists. But if what these companies are being compelled to do is legal, why is it necessary to grant them immunity? If what they did in the past was legal and proper, why is it necessary to grant them retroactive immunity? In communist East Germany , one in every 100 citizens was an informer for the dreaded secret police, the Stasi. They either volunteered or were compelled by their government to spy on their customers, their neighbors, their families, and their friends. When we think of the evil of totalitarianism, such networks of state spies are usually what comes to mind. Yet, with modern technology, what once took tens of thousands of informants can now be achieved by a few companies being coerced by the government to allow it to listen in to our communications. This surveillance is un-American. We should remember that former New York governor Eliot Spitzer was brought down by a provision of the PATRIOT Act that required enhanced bank monitoring of certain types of financial transactions. Yet we were told that the PATRIOT Act was needed to catch terrorists, not philanderers. The extraordinary power the government has granted itself to look into our private lives can be used for many purposes unrelated to fighting terrorism. We can even see how expanded federal government surveillance power might be used to do away with political rivals. The Fourth Amendment to our Constitution requires the government to have a warrant when it wishes to look into the private affairs of individuals. If we are to remain a free society we must defend our rights against any governmental attempt to undermine or bypass the Constitution. What do you think of this act? Gentle giant, by the time a law GETS in front of the Supreme Court, abuses have been going on, over all of American citizens, for years. mt pelio - Spitzer might disagree with you. However, that is another problem with this, the only time it will be CHALLANGED is by someone who did something wrong. Yet all of us who are doing nothing wrong are having huge databases made of information on us, and that is an invasion of privacy. It is also not noticably secure to let the government maintain databases, as the recent passport file issues with the candidates underlined (although only their prominance even made it a headline.) fuhbiddon, most people who ever roll over a 401K 'wire that much money'. Why should the government be spying on it?
Why do illegal immigrants? get? free citizenship if their baby is born on the U.S. Then they get free well-fare for the baby of course, then they get housing, and a free education, free lunch at school, better grants than U.S. citizens, and free medical care. While stealing someone's id and claiming 5 dependents on their income taxes and getting more money from the government. While we have to pay for everything we have and furthermore, they think they have the right. Worst of all our poltical prostitues are to scared to say anything. Is this wrong or what!?
Should the ghetto people take welfare and go back to school? Community colleges are free for all U.S citizens or the permanent residents. There are financial aids, tuition fee waivers, loans(no credit score is required to apply), and grants. In addition, the low-income people can get Food Stamps and other housing support from the government. It is more than enough for a person to go college.
What is the real goal of No Child Left Behind? According to an email from my congressman: " The House leadership has proposed a FY2007 Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill that would: *Freeze Title I formula grants, denying reading and math instruction to 3.7 million low- income children; *Cut the Federal share of special education funding to 17 percent (compared to the 40 percent the Federal government promised to pay); *Cut teacher training grants by $300 million, denying 73,500 teachers the training they need to meet the "highly qualified" standard; *Eliminate education technology grants that help schools upgrade computers and Internet technologies; *Cut Safe and Drug Free Schools programs - which help protect our kids from drugs and violence - by $40 million; and *Freeze funding for afterschool programs, failing to serve 2 million children who have no supervised place to go after school." Ok, yeah--I used to teach, so I know what it is SUPPOSED to do. . . but how is it supposed to DO that without funding? I guess that's what I really want to know.
