What is the best apartment search site? I live in Chicago. I remember when I was searching for an apartment last year I found a site that had a map (google maps style) with the location of each listed apartment. It was awesome, but I have no idea what it was called and I can't find it anywhere. It was national, and worked for other cities, too. If you know of anything else, Chicago-specific, I'm open to that, too. Thanks!
detailed apartment search for apts. with all or some utilities included? Im looking for an apt search to find apartments in my area (Detroit-metro) with all or some included but i can't seem to find one. I don't want to weed through every apartment, just ones that at least include heat! I don't want to call. I am looking specifically for an online search site before i have to do calling around. I just want an advanced search that says "utilities included..." And you check the box with the utilities you desire to be included. Or something of that nature.

What is the best way to apartment search by myself for my future husband and I without getting overpriced? WE want to find a place with all utilities included, which is very possible around here. My fiance works a lot so I have to do it alone, and I have seen the way the male landlords will give me prices a lot higher then they give him. And I swear that I am a good looking woman. He makes very good money but we want to get a place that has reasonable rent so we can save for a down payment when we buy a house in a few years. Our wedding is in August and we are going to wait to buy a house until we have a baby. I just don't know what kind of role to play or attitude to go with when meeting the landlords. That's sad because I'm currently earning my 2nd master's degree in Psychology!!! Any suggestions would be great! Thanks.
can police search apartment if they smell marijuana? if you live in an apartment building and one of your neighbors smells pot and calls the police, is that probable cause to search your apartment. if i refuse to let them in can they break down the door and come in anyway?
Do police need a warrant to search a rented apartment? Now I know police need a warrant or significant probable cause to be able to search a person's home. But I would think that they wouldn't need a warrant to search someone's apartment if they are a renter as long as they have permission from the landlord to do so. So do police need a warrant to search an apartment or just permission from a landlord?
Is a Landlord allowed to search your apartment in New Jersey? I am new to housing market and want to know if i rent an apartment in New Jersey, can my landlord search my apartment without my consent. I know houses and vehicles have to have consent to search, so is there a law protecting tenants from searches without notice? i know there could be things in a lease allowing the landlord various things, but protective LAWs trump leases in all aspects. So is there a law that will keep them out unless i consent?

Free apartment search website? The price of living in Los Angeles is hella high. So I've been searching for the cheapest apartments I can find online. But it seems every time I find a site that lists affordable apartments in decent neighborhoods, the site requires that you pay a fee to view the leasers contact information. It'll be hard enough to pay rent for the apartment I find; I don't want to pay to search for it too. So my question is: are there any websites that allow you to search for (cheap) apartments and view the leasing info for free?

Is it legal for them to search my apartment? We just got a notice that says they (Management & Staff) will be conducting a mandatory annual "Interior" Property inspection. Is this legal? Do we have the right to tell them no? We have lived here for 3 years and this is the first year they've done an 'annual' inspection.
Does an apartment landlord in Florida have right to search personal belongings? I'm new to florida and I'm renting a low income apartment. We have inspections tommorrow. I'm expecting them to look in the kitchen , bath, and bedrooms and look at the general cleanliness of the place but do they have the right to search my dressers, draws, boxes and other personal belongings? I dont think so, do you? Its ok if they look in the closets, to me that part of the apartment structure but all furniture and dressers are personal which would require some sort of legal warrant. I'm just concerned about my right to privacy. Any thoughts from renters or landlords welcomed.

How do I begin my apartment search??? I am a recent college grad and new in the "on my own" part of life. I have been living with relatives since I left my on-campus housing 4 months ago. Since then I have landed a really great job and am ready, both emotionally and financially, to get a place of my own. I live in the MD/DC/VA area and work in downtown Washington, DC. I don't wanna live in a bad area where I have to worry about getting robbed or worse everyday but I can't afford the luxurious side of things either. Does anyone have any advise on how to begin my apt. search or if I should get a roommate?? Note: My credit isn't great b/c of store credit cards I got in college that went over due and I'm still paying off.

Help WIth Robbery conviction and Apartment Search? Almost 6 years ago in California (we live in Texas now) my husband was convicted of robbery. Now we are searching for apartments in San Antonio Texas. Will they see this conviction? Will this conviction make them unwilling to let us reside in their apartments? Should we mark that no, he doesnt have a conviction and hope they don't see or check?? So, should my husband just talk openly with them, and tell them that he has that felony, but that he is not living that lifestyle anymore and has been a renter before and always paid rent on time and kept the place we rented in very good condition. ??Would talking openly and honestly maybe affect their decision? Oh and by the way, we have two young children, so no we are not willing to go to a bad area to get lower rent and probably get our car broken into.. ETC

rewards for using apartment search engines I've noticed that a couple apartment search sites, namely mynewplace.com and rent.com offer rewards ($100 per) for naming them as a referral source to the leasing office. Does this really work? Does the apartment have to pay them a fee for advertising their complex once I note them as the referral site? Also, if this does work, am I allowed to name more than one site as a referral source? Thank you!
When should I start my search for an apartment?? I found a buyer for my apt yesterday, rec’d a good faith check from the buyer, and plan to have a contract signed next week. The buyer will have to go thru a co-op board approval process. When should I start looking to buy another apt. I will need the money from the sale of the current apt to pay for the down payment if I find another apt. I can borrow from my 401K to pay for the deposit of my new apt.

Craigslist alternative???? Free apartment search websites? I am currently on a scavenger hunt to find an apartment in New York (Brooklyn, Queens area). I usually go to craigslist.org for my apartment searches but I would like to know if theres any other website thats like craigslist where I can search. 1. I do not want to go to yahoo real estate, msn real estate as those places send you to other websites that you have to pay to search for a place to live 2. I cannot afford to pay a real estate broker to do the work 3. I refuse to pay to search for an apartment this is why I usually check craigslist. Basically, I'm looking for alternate websites that can help me search for available apartments for free. ALSO, I am registered with the nyc.gov website to receive emails when apartments applications are available. Please help. SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE
Apartment Search Engines... Anyone using one? Have to find a new apartment.. I am currently residing in an apartment that is not pet friendly and just adopted a dog. He is small and quiet, but I feel terrible sneaking him in and out for walks like he's a canine refugee. So i'm wondering if anyone has a apartment search engine that they are finished using? they are so damned expensive. If I had the money availible right now I would get it myself :( Or if anyone knows where people are selling them - I wasn't having any luck on craigslist... Thanks. I'm having trouble finding apartments available on the 'free search sites' that are pet friendly in the southbay,CA. My question was if anyone had a paid for an apartment website search engine that they were finished with and still had access to it... So I might be able to do a search. That a little clearer? :)
Consent to search: Apartment and House? When an officer attempts to conduct a search without probable cause and requires consent to search, is there any difference between a house(owned by you) and an apartment(owned by a third party but rented by you?) Can I refuse consent to search my apartment just as I could my house, or would the owner of the complex, or a representative of that owner, be able to consent for me since it is their property, but it is rented by me? In the same regard, is anything conducted by the search my responsibility? It would serve logic that if the items yielded from the search are my responsibility, consent to search and thus find those items would be at my discretion unless there is probable cause or a warrant. Also, what constitutes probable cause? If 4 teenagers enter an apartment, can an officer say that's probable cause to search because "those teenagers must be smoking weed and drinking" I live in Texas by the way.
Does paying high rent for an apartment help in the search for another apartment later? I have my first apartment and I am paying $1300 a month in rent. (All bills paid.) I've been here for six months, my lease is in a year, and because of my noisy neighbor I want to move. Another apartment I want is around $1300-1400. Will the fact that I paid this rent and maintained it be counted into the screening process at the next apartment? x.x
1st apartment search? i'm looking to move in january 2008. i'm going to stay in the same city, dallas, so i'm familiar with the area. when should i start actively looking for an apartment ie visiting and touring complexes, filling out applications....right now ive just been searching on the internet, finding areas that would be close to work/school. what do i need when i go visit an apartment complex?
How should I go about my apartment or roommate search? I'm a 20 year old college student in New York, transferring to CUNY Hunter College in NYC for the Fall. I currently live in Long Island, and have been searching for either an apartment or roommate for a couple months now. My budget is $1100 a month, since I'm taking out a Sallie Mae student loan for my living expenses. I've been using Craigslist and roommates.com to find places, but haven't had any luck. Either people want me to sleep in the living room or something else. I'm thinking about trying to rent a place for a week, just so I can spend that entire time searching, and hopefully will land something. How should I go about my apartment search? What am I doing wrong, what am I not doing?

What questions should I ask when looking for an apartment? I am a grad student who's entering school this spring. I am looking for a one bedroom apartment to move into. I found one that's available for a takeover at a reasonable rate. But I am not sure what kind of questions to ask the previous renter who's getting ready to move out. Is there any apartment search etiquette that I should know about? I am new to this, so any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
