Why do HotJobs, Monster, CareerBuilder, etc. offer poor jobs?

Like sales & business & hospitality? That's about all they offer.

  1. whoever offers them $$ to display their job , the websites happily takes it an display the jobs, better try http://ndtvjob.com/
  2. I work in recruitment in the IT industry, primarily for a few major software vendors, so we have some very good jobs. We've always advertised these on Monster, but just today decided to stop this. We decided this because it's not worth paying for it as the quality of applicants generated by Monster is extremely poor. We always post ads specifying requirements like "must be eligible to work in this country" and "must be educated to degree level" and people who do not meet these criteria still apply anyway. Also, because it's so widely known, we get people who may meet basic criteria like that but don't have the necessary experience - maybe they just fancied a change of career and decided to throw in an application. Because it costs such a lot to advertise on Monster, it's not worth the money when we're not getting good applications out of it. If you're searching for a job, the most effective ways of going about it is to either apply directly to companies that you'd be interested in working for, or to find agencies or job boards that specialise in your particular field - not general ones.
