Computer jobs that actually require some degree of intelligence?

I worked for a short while as a PC tech repairing computers. There are some really stupid people in this field. I want to work with computers but I don't want to work with some of the idiots I find in this particular field. What are some higher up computer jobs that actually require some degree of intelligence?

1. try working in the support groups in a lab environment - say att labs, or imclone - where there are really smart people using the computers, they want really smart people maintaining/admin oh, and pc admin (the tech stuff) is the low end - but you gotta start somewhere - learn linux admin, it is free! then windows/linux integration...then you can start really moving forward. of the admin stuff bores you, try programming - not the point and click type, the real programming, where you need to type in code - pref java at the moment, or perhaps ruby
2. You will need to get into PC work that is also associated with the managerial role, such as decision-making about the best platform for a company, or how to best train users. I guess this would put you into IT more than PC.
