- okay...yer experience as a dj will be a plus for you--not a big one, you unnerstand--but any kind of a plus is a plus itself... call yer local stations and see if they are acceptin' applications for any kind of intern help...if you do fill out an application; make sure you have a cover letter and resume that you can submit as well (that will show how professional you are to take that extra step)... if you get hired...you'll be doin' a lot of behind the scenes work (mostly with the promtions department); but you'll have yer foot in the door; and you'll be learnin' the radio business from the ground up... after a while...try to hang out with some of the cooler announcers while they're doin' an airshift...learn the hot cloack, formatica and delivery style of the station...don't be afraid to ask questions and listen to postive criticisms as well... volunteer to 'engineer' a syndicated show such as a countdown (if the station carries one) so you can learn how to work the borad properly...use the production room to do practice on-air demos and ask other announcers and the program director how you sound, what you need to work on, etc... when everyone feels like yer ready...let the powers that be know that yer willin' to work weekend overnights, holidays, and so forth (of course, try not to let yer dj business slide too much)...show everyone what a team player you are... now..radio is a cruel business...it's not caddillacs, cocaine and babes (as so many people believe); but if you work hard and hang in there...you'll do fine..
