Who else with native English has just gotten an English speaking job in the Netherlands?

I just had a long 6 month search after working in a call centre and finally landed on my feet again. It's tough coming over from the UK or indeed worse for those whose language is neither native english or Dutch. What are you experiences of getting work in the Netherlands?

  1. I was required to take dutch lessons when I arrived in Holland so I see it as a plus point on my cv. Honestly, I haven't really relied on language in the workplace as our company has a few other non speakers in it. There are a lot of international companies (Philips, Shell, etc.) where it would be quite easy for a non dutch speaker to find work and that's where I would start looking for work. You have to promote your perfect english (or whatever language) skills as a benefit to that company. For example, I often proof-read documents or record phone menus, even though it's not part of my job description. anyway, i haven't had a problem yet finding work as an english speaker.
  2. I know quite a few English people working in Holland, but the ones that speak Dutch have better jobs.
