Who knew the job market was so low?

Wow! I have been looking for FT employment now since April. I have gone through three black ink cartridges printing out resumes--not to mention the 50 or so I have submitted online. Today I sat in the employment security commission office for 4 hours and they really had nothing to offer either. I have a degree, but no one wants to pay more than $8 per hour and the two job offers that I have received offered no benefits...and that is nearly impossible to live off of these days! Is anyone else having this much trouble? Is it only like this in NC?

  1. Change your tactics. It seems that there are many openings for entry level jobs. Hint: You have to start somewhere...
  2. all jobs are over seas, thong you precedent bush.
  3. Well, since you're in North Carolina, you could try going to this website www.headwaycorp.com to see if they have anything in your area. I know they are headquartered in Raleigh (they are a staffing agency and help with not only temporary assignments, but temp-to-hire, as well). Hope this helps.
  4. I agree with Steve We live in Cleveland - and the job market is much tougher here than in NC My son got a part time job her making $10 per hour! How? A combination of networking and presentation - he went to the interview in a suit and tie, has no tatoos or piercings and was prepared and polite! He was TOLD that was the reason he was hired! I do not know what your degree is in, but clearly sending resumes is not doing it for you - you have to network, be prepared and classy at interviews, and be willing to start at the bottom
  5. The job market isn't THAT bad. But it's hard to know for sure what you should be aiming for without seeing your resume. I'd be happy to take a look at it - delete your personal info off the top and e-mail it to me if you want a second pair of eyes and thoughts on next steps. Good luck.
