How can I get a job? Besides career builder or monster?

I have lost my job due to the housing market. How can I get a secure job with a big company?

  1. Network network network. You should have a variety of contacts from your prior position, some of whom left the company before you did. Try to touch base with them, e-mail preferable, phone if possible. Their probably in a place that you're experience would qualify you for (as obviously they were qualified) and may be more than happy to help you as many companies still offer referral bonuses for good employees. Be polite, explain your situation, make a little small talk, and ask how they're doing and if their employer (or any other place they know of) may have a position that's a good fit for you. Also, check out local "jobs" flyers in the free papers section of your grocery - the classifieds inside are small companies, but a lot of large companies with real opportunities will have larger ads on the cover or even purchase the whole back cover. Final option? Look for job placement companies in your area - temp agencies, though not what you're looking for, can help you get your foot in the door with a larger company. GOOD LUCK!
  2. Try calling every recruiter that you can find that works in your industry. Join industry groups, etc.
  3. 1. Be clear what type of position you are looking for and make sure everyone that knows you is aware of that. Your post never indicated what type of position you were looking or what you do. 2. There is no such thing as a secure job, unless you are a funeral director or work in the military. Every company can have layoffs.
  4. craigslist indeed.com these are a few alternative job sites... also research area companies and personally go to their human resource depts and hand in our resume
  5. Don't rely on anyone else, start your own business. I have and I love it. It can't hurt to give this opportunity a look. This link is not my site, it is simply a way for you to also get into the business.
