What career is better Massage Therapy or Medical Assisting?
I've been trying to decide what I want to do for a career for a year now since I graduated from High School. But I am really confused . I don;t want to waste my time and money on something that is not worth it at the end.. As a massage therapist I like the idea of having my own schedule being my own boss, or working for luxorious spa in a hotel or a cruise. This career is something I enjoy doing and I have a passion for . With medical assisting I like the idea of wearing my uniform, like nurses :) and my family looking up at me like"she's a medical assistant, cool : ) " and plus the job is in demand....even if it's something I like but don't get so excited about : - /........I DON'T know if it's something I should do....I figured that I might like it with time.... So which one do you guys reccomend..or any other careers you guys suggest?

- Well i know at the college I go to (which is a community college) you can get your degree in Medical assisting and just take a few more classes and have a degree in massage therapy. You could always go to school, take the mandatory classes and maybe do a job shadow with someone in each field to really decide what you want. If it is something that you are more passionate about, go for it...don't do something that you think you will "grow" to love. Nothing is better than going to a job that you love and doing something that you really enjoy. Best of luck to you!
- Hello You are going to be doing this job to support you the rest of your life .. right???? You need not only to like your job and be good at it. You say you have a passion for and enjoy massage ARE you good at it? Hands down if you answered yes to that last question you need to go with it as a career move. There is nothing for your family or friends to look down on. It is a function of society that is greatly needed and if you feel that you want to wear a uniform ... wear one.. I think you know already what you want to do...but.. you can do both. If you start with the massage you can continue to educate yourself on your own schedule and make money in your business at the same time.. Right? cheers... http://www.12freeyourdreams.com

- First thing - nothing is a waste of money as far as training and education. You will most likely have many careers and learn many things. Massage careers aren't all they are cracked up to be. It is a lot of work to start your own business and get clients and keep them coming. It is more than just having good hands. Being your own boss is fine but you will have to work harder than you ever have and put in more time than you think to make it happen. Working on cruise ships basically is the pits from what I hear-long hours, low pay. Spa in Las Vegas pay the best from what I hear too but getting a job there is pretty competitive. That being said you will learn the most about yourself and be challenged in many new ways. Keep in mind that the average age of a massage therapist is 45 and most schools training programs are geared toward people with business and life skills. Choose a 2-4 year massage program if you are right out of high school. I don't know anything about being a medical assistant but it is way more than just looking good in a uniform. You probably will have to deal with really sick people, gross things and people who are sick are usually not the most pleasant. You should really try them both. No one can really tell you what career is best for you. The only way to find out is to try them and see if they are for you.
- theres two ways to look at this which one you like to do and which one will pay you more in the future.
