- It really depends on what you want to do.. Many blue collar workers dont have (nor do they need) a degree... but it depends on what you want to do in a career... Last I checked, a degree never hurt anyone, but it will do some damage to your pocketbook over a few years... Your choice bud
- Yes! You should definitely go. You can always transfer somewhere else next year. It is much easier (in most cases) to be accepted as a transfer student than as a new freshman. Just keep in mind that your freshman year grades will be the basis for whether or not you're accepted as a transfer, so do well in your classes! Transfers can get pretty good scholarships too, at some schools as long as you have like a 3.00 GPA, you can get a half-tuition or full-tuition scholarship. Best of luck to you! Feel free to message me if you need further advice. :)
- yes you should go. Just try it out you can always change your mind
- A lot more than you probably think. Study after study has shown, and unequivocally shown at that, that the prestige of the school you attend for undergrad has little or no effect on future success: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/30/education/edlife/gems.html?_r=2&pagewanted=1&sq=20%20Hidden%20Gems&st=nyt&scp=1&oref=slogin Even the notion that a prestige degree unlocks doors and leads to higher earnings has been challenged. A 1999 study by Alan B. Krueger of Princeton and Stacy Dale of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation found that students who were admitted to both selective and moderately selective colleges earned the same no matter which they attended. The study suggested that the motivation and drive of the student mattered more than the college. The most important thing is to go to college - not where you go. Thanks Bill
- You might be able to transfer if you need to (although not usually to a better school), but you might ask them about their successful alumni. I'll bet that there are a fair number of lawyers who graduated from there, and while maybe none of the Fortune 500 CEOs got their degrees there, there are probably a reasonable number of people who have their own companies and have done very well. My guess is that you weren't eligible to get into a top school in the first place, or you wouldn't have applied to WNEC, so this may very well be your best shot at the career you are dreaming of.
- When you think about it, how many lawyers and CEO's wear a stamp on their forehead which states the undergraduate school they went to? Don't get caught up in the hype of the school's name and the fact that the college you got accepted to is not in the top 100 most popular names. Your school does not determine the rest of your life, you do. You have to get yourself to where you want to go. Think about it... if you applied to a job and the manager overtly told you 'No thanks, we don't want you because you graduated from WNEC.' Are you just going to give up like, 'Okay, thanks for your time.' ? I would hope that you explain to them why you are qualified, despite the unpopularity of the school's name. You can transfer to another school if you feel like it, but if you really plan to transfer to another school, you might as well not even go to WNEC and just go to a junior college that first year.
