Can a 17 Year Old Get Section 8 Housing Alone?
If a 17 year wants to apply for section 8 housing in PA since he doesn't live with his parents, and he has a job, will they set him up with an apartment? What would he have to pay?

- you cant sign the legal documents required until you are 18. You will have to be 18 or be emancipated. Emancipated means you go to the court and basically divorce yourself from your parents and become a legal adult. A judge agrees you are an adult and you are emancipated. 18 or emancipated are your only options.
- I think you would have to be 18 because you are signing a legal contract when signing a lease. Also, section 8 would wonder why a minor is not living with their parents. Also, remember that section 8 has a long waiting list and you could be waiting years on this list.
- In order to get section 8 at 17 yrs old. you would need to become emancipated. That means going to court and proving to a judge that you're capable of supporting yourself, usually without much government assistance--unless there are extenuating circumstances. Instead of section 8, you might want to find a friend or two that are 18 or older and rent an apartment together. That's what my 17 yr old son is doing now.
- no u must be 18 to enter into a legally binding contracts. stop being a dead beat and take care of your kid until hes 18. kicking him out underage what a great parent you are!
