List Only

Is Section 8 housing only for women with children who are in need?

Can a married couple with children be on Section 8? Can an unmarried couple with children be on Section 8? I am not planning to signup. I have a neighbor who seem to be doing a lot of shaddy things, such as having three vehicles, destroying the place, and neither one of them are disabled and neither one of them work a full-time job. They work a job for a while and then the next thing I know they are both home doing nothing.

  1. It would be odd for a two adult household to be that low income especially without children. If they were both on SSI maybe they would qualify. There is a waiting list so don't plan on it if you are able to work.
  2. No yes ?
  3. Yes a couple can be on section 8, marital status isn't considered. Both must either work full time or be legally disabled and living on social security. 1/3 of the total income of the couple goes towards rent and section 8 picks up the rest. Section 8 dictates the size of the house and the amount of rent the landlord is allowed to charge.
  4. It's for couples or individuals...
  5. I assume so. If the income isnt really high. I think the rules vary state to state. I could be wrong.
  6. No, not just for woman with or without kids. It can be for men, women, married couples, unmarried couples with or without kids. The biggest factor taken into consideration for qualifying is how much money you do - or don't make.
  7. Yes to both. Section 8 is a federally funded program that assists with the expense of rent. However, the wait list for Section 8 vouchers can be up to two years. Don't let this discourage you! This program is excellent- you can travel out of state if you wish to. One stipulation that HUD has is that the household members (you) do not exceed 30% of your income to support your rent. Take my advice-sign up, even if they say the wait list is long!
