Will the crime rates increase upon the arrival of Section 8 housing resident?

There is strong opposition from the members of a small town toward the Section 8 residents.

  1. yes
  2. Absolutely, They built one in my small town a few years ago and the cops are there so often they might as well build another station next door. Fight it hard, my friend.
  3. Depends. The section 8 residents can actually have good paying government jobs (I should know I live in DC). But if most are unemployed then you might see an increase in crime. Also the increase in crime may not come from them, it might come from the residents who already occupy the area trying to get them out!
  4. I'm sure. There is nothing a small town likes better than Section 8 housing full of lazy, non-working people that may be drug dealers and gang members. Any community welcomes this kind of housing for that reason.
  5. Unfortunately, yes. And the bleeding heart liberals will tell you that you "can't judge all poor people by what has happened befor in other housing projects." Yeah, yeah, yeah. You are not being prejudiced. Go online to see if you can find government statistics on crime in these kind of neighborhoods. Then present it to your city council. And, like the other person said, push hard. If it is only for old people, then it would be ok. If not, then get ready for drug pushers, and generally trashy people. All that said, I do not think everyone in those housing projects are bad, but the facts and statistics will bear me out - most of them are bad. It is sad that some that really need it get punished.
  6. CEO crime rates are even worse and affect much more people (Enron, XOXO, ImClone, etc) than Section 8 housing. Some people NEED financial help in order to get past some set-backs in their lives. This issue can be debated about legalizing Gaming and Prostitution. People commit crimes regardless of their race, national origin, and/or financial status. This "small town" needs to come to grips with the rest of the world and stop expecting PERFECTION from people who need help. I guarantee you that leaders in that small town have cheated on their spouses, drove drunk, embezzled money, and broken a few laws themselves. Possibly murdered other people and molested children...and this small town is afraid of Section 8 Housing????
  7. I live in Palmdale, California. Ever since the section 8 came here from La we have an increase in shootings robberies and drug dealing.
