I am coming out of a bad marriage and have two children. I am trying to relocate to Charlotte, NC and I need affordable housing .

Nope you have to wait like everybody else, you could go to a shelter.
Contact the department of health and services better known as dhs they may be able to help. Also you can contact the local churches they may be able to help as well.
You can ask to go closer to the top of the list based upon your needs, but there may be plenty of other 'emergencies' ahead of you. If there are no funds available for Sec 8, you can only wait until such funds are again available.
Be persistent, be very persistent. Make lots of calls. If you can, visit the rental offices of the places you want to move to. Visit HUD offices. Write. Do these things every day! Your name can be moved up the list. I have seen it happen. BTW I live in Section 8, but not in NC.
