Has anyone ever gotten a free grant from the government for college? Not FAFSA, but other gov. grants?
I start school in the fall but I need extra money because I start my nursing clinicals and i'm not going to be able to work full time. Any suggestions on how I can do this? I have a house payment and a car payment. I've heard about free Government loans and I looked it up on the Net and you have to buy the software to find the grants. I was curious if anyone out there has ever done that and received money.???

- It's an urban legend out there that the government just gives away money. (probably due to some dude wearing a outfit with question marks on it so he can make his next house payment). The fafsa is the application for all USA college students to get grants student loans from the government. Never pay an outside party to get a federal loan or grant, or help you with the paperwork. You might try a program called WIA (workforce investment act) at your local Workforce Center (employment office). They are department of labor funded, to help people who are going into high demand occupations like nursing and truck driving. I doubt they will pay for your car or house, but they may help with tuition if you meet their eligibility criteria. Good luck.
- You shouldnt ever pay for scholarship info. For a nursing program try the American Nurses Association. I would also suggest asking the financial aid office at your school. I received a "Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students" which is a scholarship for nursing students who come from a low income background (not currently, it is based on your parents information even if you are an adult).
