Why oh why does the government give teens free houses and money for getting pregnant?
Everyone wonders why there are so many teenage pregnancy's in this country (UK) Why does the govt. give these teens free council houses, £500 maternity grant, a wage each week etc etc when they do absolute jack s**t? from a teens point of view it's cushtie..... they're say 15, bored, hating their parents etc & think "i know, i'll have a baby and get a free house, loads of money..." & so on, not thinking once about the poor little babies their bringing into the world! Now i'm not saying every teen is like this but it's a FACT most teens have babies because they get all this free stuff and have to do absolutely nothing! I was 17 when i had my daughter, who's now 7, but me and my hubby worked our arses off to provide for her, we saved and saved until we could afford a house of our own & continue to work so we can afford our children...IT CAN BE DONE! i'm now 24 and have 2 more children, i'm so fed up with these teens doing NOTHING & getting everything! why is it fair they do.. .... nothing and get a free house, £500 maternity grant PER CHILD, a good weekly wage, free school dinners, free school uniforms, free school trips, free baby formular....the list goes on, when i work so hard and get NOTHING AT ALL!!!!!!!!! when will the government STOP PAYING TEENS TO GET PREGNANT! mommyautumn2006 i do completely understand what your saying, but in the long run it's just encouraging more and more pregnancies! it's all going round in circles and i have no idea how they can now stop it! i went to Jamaica for my honeymoon and was telling one of the staff about thins and they just didn't believe me, they said that over there if a teen gets pregnant, she's on her own and as a result, there are very very few pregnancies! but then again i do agree with you that it's not the child's fault si i wouldn't know how to stop it all! angelcakes thank you for your view, i'm really not that bad but you are obviously more opinionated than me so i will not bother defending myself...you can think what you like hun! Can i just add angelcakes that it's not the government that helped you it's us tax payers (workers) that helped you! Thank you for your answers, i do take every opinion into consideration! i do wonder if many of you read this part of the question... NOW I'M NOT SAYING EVERY TEEN IS LIKE THIS but it's a FACT most teens have babies because they get all this free stuff and have to do absolutely nothing! i am CLEARLY simply talking about the teenagers who have babies JUST TO GET A FREE HOUSE etc. i am also concerned that people who bother to get out of bed in the morning and WORK for their money get absolutely NOTHING from the govt. yet these youngsters do absolutely nothing and get bowed down to by the govt. I PERSONALLY FIND THAT VERY UNFAIR! where is all the free stuff for the working families? and i don't mean sh*tty working family tax credits who give you JS and then demand it back the nest year! i'm PERSONALLY fed up with the way I get treated in this country, and I PERSONALLY find it unfair that i work to not only support my own children, but to also pay for all these....... ... teenagers to get pregnant, have babies and never lift a finger! as many have pointed out, not all are like this and as i CLEARLY said "i don't think all teens are like this" but it IS A FACT that many do have babies PURELY FOR THE FREE HOUSES! angelcakes if you got benifits but are now paying your way - good on you and that immediately takes you out of this catogory, same with the person who is looking after her mother who has cancer - i'm not a cold hearted b**ch as some here have steriotypes me as - i'm just simply stating a fact that this government seem to look after the scroungers better than those who work for their money! AND I WILL NEVER CHANGE MY MIND ON THAT ONE! also angelcakes you say "anyone who needs it can get a maternity grant" I CAN'T, my hubby earns good money so the govt think we don't need any help, yet our mortgage on our house is £750 per month, our council tax is £100 with our bills and food included we are left with almost zilch, but that's ok because i'd rather work than scrounge! my hubby earns good money but gets taxed a HUGE amount to pay for what i have listed above and he also has to pay national insurence, again, money taken off hs wage! so NO, not everyone who needs that maternity grant gets it, trust me i have 3 children!

- They aren't doing it for the mothers, they are doing it for the innocent children. Those children might not be well taken care of otherwise. They give them free schooling so that one day they will be able to support themselves. They give them a house so that the child will have a place to live, and they give them money so the child can have good and diapers. It isn't fair that they get handouts, but it isn't fair to the child that all the other children can afford food and they can't.
- Yeah i think this is wrong also...If the government had a zero tolerance to this being the case then teenage pregnancies would drop dramatically..
- I don't want them to pay me. I want to be like you, work for my babies. Something to be proud of. Also...daddy's money lol. So what? He's in jail and I know where he keeps extra cash...! lol.
- So that they aren't living on the street. the children that are brought into the world are innocent and deserve care. The mothers are fools but what can you do? you need a licence to own a dog or catch a fish, but any fool can be a parent.
- i totally agree it's like you work and work, but never get ahead! my cousin is like that for the longest she would not marry her boyfriend, because then she wouldn't get free stuff. Finally she got married after three kids it was about time. I told my husband we should get a divorce, because thats the only you can actually get ahead in life being young and single!
- i feel ya sista
- you are right but just to point out that all parents who have a low income are entitled to the £500 sure start maternity and the vouchers which don't give u free baby formula but a £2.50 discount. However i see ur point i had my little girl when i was 18 n me n my partner work our bums off for her to give her all she needs and wants.
- The same reason they give everyone who gets pregnant free stuff. I hope you or your kids are never in need of anything. Anyone no matter what their age gets the maternity grant and a house etc if they need it. I think that considering you have actually been through pregnancy and labour etc, what these teens (and plenty of women in their 20's and 30's etc) get off the government is nowhere near enough! I think you are an oppinionated so and so who knows nothing! I struggled for a year and yes I did accept benefits because if I didnt then my baby would have ended up in care and I would have been on the streets but thanks to our government that didnt have to happen. I am now on my feet and starting up a business and I have our government to thank for that. Is it the teens fault that you didnt ask for help when you needed it? No its not so stop resenting them!!! Can I just add that I pay my taxes too, I did before I needed a little help and I do now I am back on my feet. My entire family have always paid their taxes too. If a girl who gets pregnant gets no help then it wont reduce the amount of pregnancys we have it will just increase problems such as depression, suicide and child murder.
- I had my son at 19, where's my free house and money?
- bringing up children is pretty expencive thats y and not every one can afford it they give you money 2 get by just like people on the dowel
- i totally understand where you coming from and agree not all teens are like this, but for some its not always there fault. i had my daughter at 18 carried on working while my mom looked after her and had my own privatly rented place my daughters father left when i was six months pregnant and i have not seen him since. i didnt claim any benefits. now i have moved back in with my parents and gave up work because my mom has cancer and i need to look after her so i am now claiming benefits sometimes people just dont have a choice, ie disability, absent fathers or in my case being a carer.
- It would be nice for the government to help the working people out a little bit. I don't work because I am a full time student right now but my husband works his butt off and we get sh*t on. Even WIC is a pain. They say that the income requirements are your gross pay but they don't consider insurance and all that stuff. I know teens are looking for a way out of their parents house and not thinking long term and its not right.
- do they? but do you know how many girls who get pregnant young but didnt mean to and even used contraception etc, who are then refused housing and get through life a lot better than most, earning their own money and buying their own house. that looks like what you have done, and a lot of others do. its not fair to stereotype because of the ones who couldnt care less about their kids and only want the money and house. yes some may have it better than others, age irrelevent, but why stereotype when you dont know their sitation. well done for doing so well with your children and earning your way like the young mums i know, its great to to be able to do that, but its not fair to put the others down until you know facts. i dont completely agree with young girls getting pregnant when theyre still in compulsery education but i dont judge, as long as they do right for their child nothing else matters. they are very lucky to have children anyway, as some cant i for one might not be able to, and money etc shouldnt come into the best thing that life can bring you. most i believe correctly revolve their life around their child, and if that means getting a council house whether they want to or not, just to put a roof over their childs head and give them a chance in life, then so be it.
- I agree with you about how unfair it seems that certain people work hard to keep their head above the water and these scroungers get to sit on their lazy bums all day, swigging beer, smoking cheap fags, leaving their poor sprogs to drag themselves up. But i have to say i wouldn't want to swap shoes with them at all. Most of these live on rough council estates, their homes are dirty, they mix with bad ppl which means their poor kids will grow up rough, likely criminal and not well educated. Im not saying all will be like this, the odd few will come out ok but i grew up in these areas and this is what its like. Luckily i got out of it, married a hard working guy we bought a house together and i also worked until i became pregnant and lost my job unfairly, the government paid me £100 maternity allowance a week which has stopped now, and we got the £500 maternity grant due to my hubby being on low income. My baby is 8 months and im about to start working again as we are struggling to pay a mortgage and bills. But i know my baby is very well looked after, living in a decent friendly neighbourhood, will go to a good school and not have to be associated with the people i grew up around, and hopefully she will be able to have ambitions that she can achieve, you'll notice council estate ppl just mimick their parents instead of bettering themselves. So just feel proud that you are not bringing your babies into that world.
