I have heard time and time again about free grant money...I am getting ready to buy a house and was wondering, does anyone know how and where I could get this free grant money from the Government.

- You have to qualify for one ! http://www.hud.gov/
- You hear a lot about them because most of them are scams -- and scammers are everywhere waiting on people gullible enough to believe the lies that there are free grant monies for whatever purpose you want, which is absolutely not true and not how federal grants work You may want to read first the warnings FTC has issued against these "grant" companies: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2004/03/grantresources.htm http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt134.htm Here is also one of the warnings issued by the Better Business Bureau http://www.concord.bbb.org/tips_timesharescams.html As for housing grants, the Housing and Urban Development in their Grants Available page makes it clear that they do not provide grants to individuals -- hence no grants for a person to buy a home http://www.hud.gov/grants/index.cfm --------------------------------------------------- "While HUD does not offer direct grants or loans to individuals, we do work through local governments and non-profit organizations to make financial assistance and counseling available." --------------------------------------------------- However, there are non profits that can help you with downpayment or even get a house for free as they are the recipients of these government grants.
