I am a single mom trying to buy a house, are there grants out there for that???

Found the PERFECT home for my son and me. Can't quite afford it alone though. Did some looking online and found a few sites that look like scams (we'll ship you your FREE Government Funding Kit for only $1.95 shipping). Anything that's legit??

1. There are loan programs to assist first time home buyers with buying homes....But if you are saying that you wouldnt be able to afford it monthly, like pay the full mortgage, there arent any programs that I can think of that would be able to assist you.

3. There are millions of single mothers and fathers in the US. There are no programs forcing tax payers (many of them the working singles!) to buy homes for you because you can not afford what you want. There are HUD homes, but they are specific homes in distressed neighborhoods that you can buy. Or, you can do what the rest of us do, buy a home that you can afford! Live within the means that you have chosen to have, you picked you job and income, now pick a house that matches it.

7. There is no free money to buy a home. Can you get a roommate or someone to co-sign?
