What can I do to receive free items for families in low-income housing for the holidays?
I work for a low-income housing program and I'm trying to see if I can get donations for the families. We are having a Christmas party for the community and I would like to raffle off items so that everyone can walk away with something nice for the holidays. If you have any ideas, they would greatly be appreciated! :o) Thanks!

- Do you have the ability to get donations from companies. If so, see about getting donations from grocery stores, gas cards, bus line/taxi donations, haircuts, clothing from a resale shop, diaper discounts, MacDonalds gift certificates, etc.
- Advertise , words of mouth, internet blog, friends donation to make low income families have a memorable christmas.
- The best thing to do is just get on the phone and call local companies. Most places will help you out even if it is just with a small gift certificate or something, depending on how you sell it, they may help with much more. If you know someone who has ever done fund-raising hit them up for some options, otherwise you will just need to start cold-calling places, tell them who you are with and what you are doing and how they can help and also get some good, free, PR. Good Luck!
- I love your picture. Go to Salvation Army, Good Wll. Stella Maris and if there are any Big Chains in the neighborhood like McDonalds etc ask them a small gift from them is worth bIG TIME GOOD WILL gOOD lUCK
- go on a free cycle in your area and tell them what you need help with they are usually ready to help people in need.
- Call around to businesses in the areas. Large businesses (like Target or J.C. Penny's) might donate items flat out, smaller businesses, local entrepreneurs, might donate money. Anyone willing to help can also put up signs in their businesses/offices that you are accepting donations up through such-and-such date. Call the local newspaper and see if you can get a special interest piece run- if they're interested enough to run an article on this, you should get flooded with donations :)
