How can a NYC college student get low income housing?

I'm going to graduate school in NYC, supporting myself entirely. The tuition is very expensive, and I planned on living on loan throughout the 2 years, but it looks as if I won't be able to do that next year. I'll either have to find a way to live very cheap or quit school entirely. Are there any programs that assist with the high cost of living in NYC for people with very little income? I looked into section 8, but I don't think it's available if you are a student...

  1. Sorry but unless you find some student looking for roommates you are on your own. Rents in NYC especially Manhattan are too much even for the working stiff. Did you check with the college? They may offer referral services or a roommate listing.
  2. make your search for Housing lottery or Affordable housing keywords + NYC \ one option here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/housinginfo/html/home/home.shtml however, you have to meet certain criteria for income and others. else, search roommate.
