How can we keep low income housing out of our neighborhood?

We really don't want these people and the related riff-raff that comes with them. Most of them don't work anyways

  1. I like how you reference them as "THESE PEOPLE" as if they are a different species altogether....funny stuff. Anyhow, you can petition the city to rezone your neighborhood, collect signatures, you know, do the whole community action thing. Unfortunately, there is BIG money in low income housing. So you may have to find a new place to live unless you can sway the city, who is probably getting a nice chunk of money from the developers to put the housing in. Good luck! Hope this helps! :-)
  2. My motto:Be nice to everyone you meet, they might be fighting a BATTLE you know nothing about! This might include you and your neighbor. The riff raff happens in your circle too.
  3. We are currently going thru the same thing in our neighborhood. We live in a rural area and they want to put in 3,293 multi-family dwellings with a huge percent of them very low income. The property in our neighborhood are 1/2 to several acre parcels with homes in the $400,000 and up price range. Of course, having that development in our area would make the housing values drop like a rock, not to mention the rate of crime would go up, the traffic situation would be horrendous, etc. I made up a petition and we canvassed the neighborhood for signatures which we presented at city hall to the planning commission. In a while they will have city council meetings and we will be present at all of them, fighting to keep what we worked so hard for. I'd advise you to do the same.
  4. What an awful thing to say; you are discriminating against people, lumping everyone together in a derogatory manner, and it makes me feel very sad. Maybe you should stop and think about your own attitude and how this affects others. Everyone needs a place to live, you know!
  5. What a terrible attitude. People on low incomes have to live somewhere and they'll never get on their feet if people keep pushing them away. What's so great about your lifestyle anyway? It's just different. One thing though. If it's a drug use issue, I would go to the city council and the police. If it's a snobby, go to yout own heart and be thankful that you're not "riff raff".
