I want to report my apartment complex for bad maintenance who do I call? I have tried housing authority?

I have lived in this apartment for a little over a year. Everytime it rains the water comes in and wets the carpet. The maintenance department said the fixed it but every time I keep running into to this problem. I spoke to the manager and she said she has bids in for roofers to make the repairs but still has no approval to do the work. I don't believe it is fair and I tried calling the housing authority but they cannot help me because I don't have section 8 or other government assistance. I also called Fair housing and the health department but no one can seem to help me and I don't know who else to contact. My biggest concern is I have an asthmatic child and it does not help if I have a carpet that has been wet and is pron to mold and mildew. If you know who I can contact please give me their info.

  1. Well, it seems as if you've covered all your bases. Have you tried calling Child Protective Services? I found that when there are children involved, they're usually quick to get involved... That, and if you're tried every angle without good results, screaming and yelling usually helps. If anything, you'll get someone's attention.
  2. Believe it or not, your apartment manager has a higher person to answer to. Find out who the property management company is and contact them directly. They'll try to tell you that the matter is being looked into and that it will be taken care of. Don't fall for that one. Let them know that your in the process of contacting your attorney and that he/she will be contacting them shortly about your pending lawsuit against them. Federal laws do protect you as a renter from health hazards and unsafe living conditions. You'll be surprised how fast this will work. If it doesn't, you can look up the owner of the property at your local county/perish land records. They will have on file the lawful owners of the property and their contact information. Try contacting them if the first idea doesn't work. Good Luck
  3. I agree with the other person that states you should contact the owner directly. In my 15 years of experience in the housing field, I have found that many apartment managers get away with maintenance issues because the owner doesn't know about it. Also, the lien holders(banks) want the property repaired because it preserves the value of their loan. You can also contact the local building department and file a complaint with a code inspector.
