What size dogs are allowed in the Housing authority bulidings? (section 8/eldery homes)?

Im pretty sure their rules are probably all the same, or pretty close.. even if not, if you work in this dept or live in one of these places, could you please tell me? Thanks Themom, Im talking about the actual authority homes, NOT private dwellings. And in this state, the housing is required to allow small dogs in senior dwellings.

  1. I represent many section 8 investors that own the home and rent it through the section 8 housing authority in the Tampa, FL area. My investor told me IF the project is an apartment complex - the management sets the pet weight limits and number of pets a tenant can have - usually no more that 1 up to 15-20 pounds. (Small dogs) He has a few homes and he allows pets, he sets the requirements and he allows 1 dog up to 50 pounds - AND he must approve of the animal - no risky breeds due to insurance coverage issues. Ask your case worker (Section 8) OR the owner that you will be renting from. Good Luck
  2. The housing authority does NOT require landlords to allow any pets at all. It is up to the landlord if they will accept pets and then which pets which pets they will accept.
  3. Out here all cities are required to allow seniors and the disabled to own 1 pet. In my city (Boston) no pet is allowed to exceed 40lbs, and you may have two, but not 1 cat and one dog. It can be a cat and bird, or dog and fish, or dog and bird and so on.. Breeds that are not allowed are, pitbull, rottie, doberman and german shepard (which is stupid to even mention on the forms because dobies, rotties and german get bigger than 40lbs) I dont know what on earth that other person was talking about, and was quite rude aswell it seems. But if you are issued a voucher to seek residence in a privately owned home, then it is up to the landlord.. and I will say this, good luck, because most of them are jerks (I was.. um, being polite) and they wont allow dogs. A lot of the times its because some past moron screwed it up for those who are indeed responsible human beings. Good luck. I also liked the first answer, but dont take the second answer to heart.
