What did the Federal Housing Authority accomplish?

1. They became a giant tax dollar sucking department that couldn't care less about housing.
2. On the face, they created alternate avenues for affordable housing and put in place alternative financing sources so that people could afford to buy their own homes. But then, they also created slums and housing projects so scary that firefighters in places like Chicago, Detroit and St. Louis are paid combat pay for working the stations that cover the projects.
