What kinds of jobs could a herpetology major get?
I love reptiles and would love to major in herpetology. However, I would like to stay in rural northern california after college and can't think of any actual jobs that a herp major could be applied to. Therefore, I'm actually majoring in Elementary Education since I love kids as well (and for other reasons involving my feelings on the current condition of our educational system that I wont get into here). So, back to my point, what jobs ARE there for herpetology majors? What can you do with a major like that?

- I have a friend with a herpetology degree. He works in conservation biology, but he hates the job, because the only jobs he can get are for companies surveying land to see if there are endangered species living there before they start building - and they don't want you to find any, so everyone hates you if you're good at your job. Plus it takes up all his time (pretty much no free time at all) and pays crap, even if you have a doctorate (40k max).
- Work in a zoo. Work in conservation. Work for an environmental company. Work for a state park. Finish herp as a secondary major and go into education as a traveling teacher.
