Why is it so hard to find affordable housing?
I want real, serious economic answers. Why is it so hard for many people to find quality housing that they can afford? If it's cheap, it's in a bad area, and if it's safe, the price is too high for lots of people to pay. What caused this, and how can it be fixed?

- It about supply and demand. There is a limited amount of "Real," property available so the demand creates higher pricing. If you were to move to Wyoming, Nebraska, North Dakota you'd save hundreds of thousands on the same house. So there are only 2 ways to fix it. 1.) Make more money. 2.) move to a place with a lower cost of living (of course then your standard of living would go down as well)
- WOW.... Your asking for an answer for something that rich people don't want to answer. First off, have you ever been in a Getto (so to speak) area? A good landlord tries to keep his building in good shape and secure for it's tenents, but it's the people themselves who rent and don't take care of their living quarters that create the problems. The government tried to assist in this situation and has only made it worse over the years and has created these so called Gettos thru-out the United States. They have added what I know to be the Section 8 assistance that has even made it worse. They are providing subsidized rental housing outside the Getto areas and providing housing for people that don't give a damn about anything and putting them in housing that the average worker can't even afford. Our government has created a monster and is the only one that can straighten this mess out, but it would take individuals with common sense to do it. With the professional politicians we have in office these days I wouldn't look for any help from them to begin with and only hope for us is that people will vote in people who will correct these problems. I sincerely doubt that I will see it happen before I die.
- depending on where you are ...plenty of affordable housing somewhere, but not in California, New York and many other states
