How to create affordable housing for the benefit of all the people?

Any ideas or solutions through which we can help? Any specific solutions regarding India or other countries?

  1. Don't help the other countries, help the USA...problem solved
  2. the cost of the choice will depent on the applied technology.
  3. by forming true co operative society,
  4. there is no good solution. poor people destroy the housing they are given. and cannot afford to buy there own housing.
  5. Section 8 is all about spreading crime all over the peaceful neighborhoods. That's what we call equal housing
  6. Technology, technology, technology. Letting private corporations invest in R and D and let them recoup their costs without penalizing them through high export taxes. Prefab housing is just getting better and better. Agriculture technology creates more food. Nuclear power plants are safer than ever and provide clean, ample electricity. Technology makes everyone's life better.
  7. I think more programs along the lines of Habitat for Humanity, especially when the people who are going to live in the homes help to build them. I remember seeing a program with Jimmy Carter explaining that the people take more pride in their homes when they have participated in building them. A friend of a friend of mine is taking part in a home building project in Mexico. His highschool teacher has organized it. I would love to do something like this, whether in my own community or in another country. I don't believe that humanity should stop at any border. P.S. (This is for those who think it's wrong to help people in other countries) I live in Canada. I am a CANADIAN. Please do not tell me that I should help only Americans (which, by the way, I did after Katrina). I will give help to whomever I please. I live in a country of wealth and privilege and I think it's my responsibility to help others. I also think that it should be up to each individual to decide whether to help at home or in another country or both. And if you really want to help the US, please go out and vote this year for a decent president.
  8. Just wanted to point something out to the person who thinks section 8 spreads crime etc through "good" neighborhoods. Section 8 is very discriminating in who they will allow into the program, at least here in Wisconsin. My husband has 12 traffic tickets from over the last 12 years (about 1/year) They denied us because he had a police record. You may want to read up on the strict qualifications before you open your mouth...or type. That said, we need to adress the housing situation in the U.S.A before we can worry about other countries. They say we are a prosperous nation and nobody is left behind, but the truth is, there are families everywhere living in their vehicles and in old buildings. Those others who manage to find a house end up sick all of the time due to the poor maintenance by landlords.
