Can I make money off of affordable housing?

6 months ago I purchased a brand new townhome under the moderate income affordable housing program...I know I cannot make huge equity off of this program, but I am still a little confused by the selling rights...since the government picked up $93,000 of the purchase price of the home i don't outright own it...if I wish to purchase this home (after 40 years!) i will have to pay this amount back to the government...now, my question is, if I wish to sell prior to the 40 years, will I be able to make anything back from my payments and $30,000 downpayment? (I will not have to pay the 93,000 to the government if i choose to sell before 40 years)... please answer if you have experience with this type of housing program. Thank you

  1. You need to read the contract you signed when you got money from the government. It should explain your rights and what is expected if you choose to sell the property. Some contracts are prorated each year so that you gain more equity each year. You really should look through the agreement or find a lawyer to do it for you. You may be able to contact the agency with whom you dealt. I am sure they could tell you.
