What breed to you think?
I'm going to get a dog (at least 2 years old) from pet finder. I live in an apartment, my house mate already has a male Pomeranian 2 years old and while I do love the pom, I'd like a smarter dog!! I want a dog who is able to come hiking, camping with me and so on, a dog who is smart but also loving - not too big as we're in an apartment, but not too small (the pom gets under my feet!!) any suggestions? I have alot of time for this dog, but I'm not wanting to do the puppy thing - I cannot stand the months of shouting and feeling guilty! I'm going to the pound or petbreeder, I said that. I want advice on a breed! And no I'm not bothered if its a pedigree, but an idea on a (insert dog breed here) mix or a half (insert dog breed here) would be nice! I said petbreeder, of course I mean pet finder

- Again go to the pound, especially if you don't want the puppy stage. Or contact a REGISTERED BREEDER, they may have a older dog they are looking to rehome.
- maybe a mixed breed may be best for you.. maybe something about the size of a beagle, schnauzer or a sheltie may be what you are seeking. Look around at some of the shelters in your area and see what they have available.. when you find the right dog, you will know it!
- Australian shepherds are wonderful, lovable dogs. They beautiful and have unique coloring, and stand at 1-2 feet. They are very, very smart, but don't take advantage of it because they LOVE to please their master. They are energetic, and have the sweetness of a yellow lab. Aussies are also very courageous, but sometimes are very protective. They are a "one group" dog, meaning they are loyal to usually their master, and whoever their master treats as a good friend. They are timid towards strangers, though. They will become a loved one quickly. Maybe you should get a slightly mature dog, so you don't have to deal witht he puppy thing.(1-2 years?)
- I would suggest writing some things down about yourself. Are you active, like a jogger and you want a dog to keep up with that? some nice sight hounds might fit in here well. Or are you more relaxed going for casual stroll? companion breeds may work well here. Are you a dominant type, do you command attention and know how to get your opinion across and your desires met? Then some of the working dogs might suit you well. or are you more laid back and easy going? Perhaps stay away from your working group/breeds. You see these are just some of the questions you should be thinking about. As each breed (and mutt) bring specific behavioral traits that have been bred into that type of dog for centuries. So again, ask yourself what kind of person you are and then go research some breeds to find out generally what kind of dogs are out there. If you go to websites such as Puppyfind.com, petfinder.com or even AKC.org and do some breed research, you can get a good idea if a dog is active, what kind of grooming requirements are needed, are the dogs easily trained etc. No two dogs are the same, however there are breed specific traits you can utilize to get you into a general area. I wouldn't go on what is "cute' rather what fits into your life the best and move forward from there. Good luck
- I have a catahoula, and he is the best dog i have ever seen.Very smart the only problem could be his size.Mine is 55lbs .If you get one you will never want a different breed.
- I would recommend a pit bull, they are very sweet affectionate dogs that are quite versatile, and they are not aggressive by nature.
- I wood say a Cocker Spaniel. I have 1 and she is smart! Hope I helped!
