LA Apartment Guide?

I'll be looking for an apartment in Los Angeles. I'm not familiar with the area and all the websites I've found so far are difficult to get around/find actual apartment listings. Any good sites with links to apartment complex websites and area maps?

1. just stay out of south central la! east la (southeast of downtown) is also on the ghetto side. Good areas: Santa Monica (or anything directly south, don't go east of this city until you are north of hollywood) west hollywood westwood brentwood beverly hills bel air pacific palisades malibu hollywood hills any community in the san fernando valley pasadena to whitter burbank torrance long beach orange county anywhere

4. avoid the sites that want you to pay a fee! craigslist is the place to go. you could also try the local papers classified section. Some people have had success with rent.com. What area are you looking for? Maybe we can provide some leads.

7. rent.com, craigslist.org. mapquest-see what is close to work, then research if you will be able to afford that area, ask around on here to see if it's a nice area, pay us a visit, drive around to your top places, see if they offer what you are looking for.
