How long does it take to obtain the necessary documents to commence employment in Abu Dhabi?

What is the process; I assume that my employer will need to obtain an employment visa from the Labor Office (how long does this normally take?) and then an application will need to made to the immigration Department (why is this and how long should it take?). What else needs to be done in order to commence employment?
