is it worth getting a real esate agent for an apartment?

I'm going to be looking for an apartment for the first time in a few months. I keep getting mixed reviews about getting a real estate agent. Just wondering if its really worth it? 1. Do it all yourself. Why pay someone to help you look for a place when you have newspapers, the Internet and craigslist?
  2. In Texas we won't use real estate agents for apartments. You don't say what state you are in so it is hard to help point you in the right direction.
  3. dont use a realtor for an apt. you are the one that knows what you like. Just spend a couple of days touring different properties. You dont have to make an appt. Just show up on their door step, they have a leasing agent that will tour you to models or what they have available, give you a brochure with prices and floor plans what utilities are included if any and a breakdown of all move in cost. Compare it to all the other properties you have toured and make you decision based on what you can afford and what it right for YOU! :)
