- Type in Publication 78 on any search engine. That will take you to the IRS's listings of ALL 501(c)3 NonProfit charities. If you are interested in a particular area (animal rescue, heart association, things like that), do a search under that name, and add New York to the search parameters.
- A very good site for the kind of Info that you are looking for... http://new-york.uscity.net/Charity/ Thanks.
- Charities should be registered with the Secretary of State's office. They will have a listing. When donating to a charity, evaluate what their overhead is. If they only give 3% to their cause, you can presume that it is a front for the owner to line his pocket. A good organization will have an overhead less than 60%.
- http://www.volunteermatch.org/bymsa/m5600/c/org1.html this site has all the Non-Profit Organizations in NY, which total up to 1932, so check em out, you can also apply as volunteer by going to thier site here.
- Old fashioned but it works...try your local library reference section
