  1. i've gotten all three of my dogs as puppies at the local shelter. all were between 8-10 weeks old. some places have a list you can be put on to be called if they get anything in. other than that, just keep an eye in your local papers, but most places are going to charge at least 100 for a puppy, vet bills need to be paid ya know.
  2. you should try calling the pounds in neighboring cities. Some petstores carry them but they do get kind of expensive. Petsmart does adoptions on the weekends for dogs and puppies so try there. Also try the newspaper and the online newspapers. Now is about the time when dogs are having the most litters so im sure somthing will pop up sooner or later. You might have to go a little out of your way, I mean driving, to accually find a puppy. Good luck
  3. Check your local newspaper. Usually there is a pet section, some where near the jobs listings, for people looking for homes for animals for sale or free. Good luck :)
  4. try petfinder.com you can search nearby shelters too then. And you can specify baby/young
  5. What you need to do is visit some dog shows and talk with the people showing their dogs. Get some books and read about the breed. Read about their health conditions and read the breed standard. I don't know too many puppies that are $100. Most are $700 and up. Especially toy breeds they are not cheap. Also you have to have money saved up for vet bills and emergencies. Things happen and you need to take them to the vet. I am not trying to be mean but, there are so many people who can't take their dogs to the vet because they don't have the money. If you want a puppy that is under $100 the only place would probably be a rescue, shelter, or pound. Secondly, a puppy for a birthday present is NOT a good idea. Do not buy a puppy for a birthday present. This is how dogs end up in shelters, and pounds and are put to sleep every day.
  6. If I were you I would look in the local newspaper, and check out the pets section, and the giveaways section. There are some people who have to giveaway their puppies/dogs for various reasons. Most of the reasons are because of moving overseas, to another city, and they can't bring the puppy with them because the place where they are going to live won't allow pets. Another reason is because their girl dog had puppies with a neighbours dog, and they giveaway or sell the puppies for like $25.00. Don't be afraid to get one of those, because you'll be saving it a trip to the shelter where it may be put down. Not all free puppies are disease infested and whatever else the rich breeders promote in an attempt to avoid people from saving these puppies, so people can buy their $800.00 + AKC dog. I would also suggest that you place a wanted add for a puppy under $100.00 in your local newspaper. P.S. Just ignore the rude comments that some people make. They are like this to many others who ask questions such as yours. Don't let them get to you. GOOD LUCK :)
  7. Never buy a puppy as a gift. The future dog owner should be the one to pick out a dog.
  8. First of all make sure it's okay with everyone in the home before giving a puppy as a pet. Everyone has to want it for it to be feasible. In general animals are a terrible gift to give. Most of them end up in shelters because someone in the home objected to it. If everyone agrees you are unlikely to get a quality puppy for $100. Especially in places like Southern California where everything is expensive. Even if you do you should let the person receiving the puppy pick it themselves. I would try petfinder. You may have to travel some to get a puppy, but they are all animals in need of a home. You will also save a life. It's about the only chance you have if you are looking to pay so little. I myself would never give an animal as a gift though. Good luck!
