please help me?
some guy is selling an acura on criags list with on 23,000 miles on it. How can you tell if the odometer was tampered with? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/446431295.html

- take it to a dealer
- Have him meet you at a mechanics before you buy the car.
- if the acura is relatively new and has a digital odometer, it could not easily be tampered with at all, if the odometer is analog, it only takes a drill to wind it back. if it's a digital odometer, definitely go for it, i like acuras wish i could afford one
- The car is 17 years old! this mileage is unlikiley. Also the hood is a different color.
- uhhhhhhhh, how the hell r u gonna tell with the pictures that he gives, my suggestion is don't buy it, 23000 mi. is ALOT of miles for a car that ur gonna buy as new to u
- Scrathes (even slight ones) on the numbers. On the digital ones its impossible. I would'nt get it though. Seems a little fishy.
- View the wear on the acceleration pedal, and steering wheel
- I have heard that if the odometer has been tampered with the numbers dont line up. ( they aren't even with eachother.)
- THE SEAL ON THE SPEEDOMETER CABLE THAT GOES IN TO THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE BROKE. HAVE A MECHANIC FRIEND GO WITH YOU, ASK IF YOU CAN TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC TO CHECK OUT THE WHOLE CAR OUT. YOU CAN ALSO GO TO A WEBSITE CALLED "CARFACTS.COM" ,OR "CARFAX.COM". DMV RECORDS HAVE MILAGE FOR EVERY TIME A CAR IS BOUGHT OR SOLD. THE WEBSITE CAN ALSO TELL YOU IF THE CAR HAS BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS, ETC. CHECK IT OUT.
- This is a 1990 Acura. 23,000 miles? I don't think so. Odometer has definitely been tempered with and probably more then once by different owners. I wouldn't buy it. This car must have several records on carfax. Compare the dates and do the math.
- Just looking at pictures, the tires look like more than the miles stated, the seat looks a little too worn. If i had to guess, the seller intended to write 123k, email the seller and ask, and do a carfax. But i seriously doubt it's only 23k.
- If it looks too good to be true, probably is not true.
- After looking at hte year of the car, and the condition it is in, I would guess that it is simply a missprint on his part. I bet it has 230,000 miles.
