What is the safest way to buy off of Craigslist, to ensure I am not ripped off?

I am enquiring about a PS3 on Craigslist, and the deal seems too good to be true. Outside of checking out the product myself, what are other was that I can make sure that I am not scammed?

1. If it seems to good to be true, chances are it is... sure you can find great deals online but if you are not willing to risk losing your $$, buy from a reputable dealer or someone you can trust
2. why would you buy anything used like that without checking it out in person??
3. Contact the person you want to buy it from and talk about it. Ask him or her to send you pictures of it and go personally to pick it up from him/her if its close. If not, I don't think its a good idea to buy it if it sounds too good to be true.
