Sponge on accelerator pedal..?

Heard this on a local radio station.. The deejay mentioned something about fixing a sponge pad on the accelerator pedal, and that it would help in achieving better fuel efficiency.. Sounds kinda ridiculous to me.. What do you people think? :)
