How do I afford and apartment?
I am currently living with my husband, but I want to leave him because he is an asshole and I only have a part- time job making $8 an hour and I go to school full-time. I have no idea how I could afford an apartment with my income. I just got into the Respiratory Therapy program so I can't mess that up. Also we have 2 kids and live in a small town. Please help with some useful info.

- Maybe rent with a roommate?
- find some good roommates.
- Child support/alimony.
- If you have two kids, you will be getting child support if you have the children living with you. The other thing you can do it go to the towns housing authority and sign up for housing. it may take a little while on a waiting list but it is state funded and rent goes by your income. Look to see if you can get into section 8 housing. Also, a counselor in the school you are attending can help lead you in the right direction to get you some help or who you can speak to about getting you some help with child care and your other needs to help get you through school and on the right track to make a better life for you and your children. BEST OF LUCK.
- There is help out there for single mothers, esspcially if you are trying to better yourself. Try contacting the HUD office in your area, or the income support division. These agencies are there to help you when you are in need. try www.hud.gov From one woman to another is the situation is bad at home get out for yourself, but remain civil for the kids.
- In most cities there are nice appartment complexes that are specifically opened to single mothers with children and other people in finacial need (such as the elderly, etc.). They base the price of your rent on how much money you make. For instance, I knew a family of 4 living in an appartment like this and they paid $80 a month. And it was a nice appartment too. I am currently going through a separation from my baby's father as well, and I plan on moving into one of these appartments. (I live in a very small town like you too). I'm sure that your local Department of Human Services can help you locate one in your area if you are interested. DHS can also help you with things like starting out money to move into the appartment, daycare expenses, etc. I hope this helps, email me if you have any questions about the information.
- Get some marriage counseling. It's cheaper than rent and your kids will benefit from it in the long run.
