Are there any inexpensive apartment complexes in the Phoenix/Tempe area without bugs?

I was born and raised in Phoenix and I have a phobia of the large sewer roaches, japanese beetle, palmento bugs that are common in the phoenix area. My dad lived in Sun King apartments and it was common to see them on the grounds and he'd get a couple in his apartment every year. Now that I am considering moving back to Phoenix after 7 years in Flagstaff, I am worried. My husband and I will be looking into moving to the Tempe area, since he will be attending ASU. Can anyone recommend any apartment complexes which are relatively inexpensive where I'm less likely to have any problems with my fear? I'm aware I need therapy, but that is not a possibility at this time in my life; it is something I plan to do later. If I see a roach in my apartment I will not be able to sleep there or stay there, so this is a big issue for me. If I see one on a stairwell, I will no longer be able to use that particular stairwell. Any help would be great and please do not mock me. If you've lived in Phoenix, you know that not having food around does not keep them out. Do bugs msteriously know there is no food? No, they come in and check. I can not have this happening.

  1. Inexpensive and bugs usually go hand and hand.
  2. I doubt it, all Apartments have roaches. That's why I live in a house
  3. Hi, I grew up in Phoenix also and your best bet is to buy roach powder from the dollar store or anyhardware store or some grocery stores and put it in back of all of your cupboards. Live in an apartment upstairs, they are less likely to want to travel up, also you or your husband should close up any holes around plumbing pipes and pour 1 cup of bleach down drains and cover drains at night...do not leave unscreaned windows open and do not leave any open containers in your dry goods..Get a cat, they will eat bugs....and pray..Good luck and God bless you :)
  4. it takes a bit of elbow grease but caulking along all the baseboards keeps the transient bugs from coming over to your place especially when someone else moves out and quits feeding them. I live in Texas with lots of bugs all year long and I haven't had to have an exterminator for 5 years, the time I completed caulking. Prior to that the exterminator was on a 6 month cycle. check along the windows as well to make sure there aren't any gaps under the windowsills or around the frame. The pipes had already been mentioned in a previous note, just pull away the round hardware that covers the hole where the pipe enters the living space, fill behind it with an expanding foam from the hardware store being careful to wear gloves and cover your eyes with glasses. once it hardens, cut it even with the wallboard and replace the hardware. they have tubes of caulk available at lowe's and home depot that you just squeeze with your hand, like toothpaste, that a novice can handle.
  5. It isn't that hard to find a place without bugs. If you keep a clean house you won't get them.
  6. Keep a clean house like Top Dog said. If there isn't food for bugs they move on and go else where.
