Safe cities in Florida?

Planned on moving from Chicago to Orlando. However, it seems as if the crime is worse over there than in Chicago. Are there any areas similar to Orlando or near orlando that is safe to raise kids? I have a 3year old and a my wife is 7months preg. I heard Lake Mary is a good area, however, we will need to rent for a few years, as nice as they say the area is, I went to apartment ratings and it seems like every apartment complex is gang infested. Any recommendations?

1. Ive lived in the orlando area since I was three years old and never had one issue with crime. I lived in an apartment complex in lake mary for much of that time. The school system in seminole county is superb. I would say its a great place to raise a family.
2. Move to Cocoa Beach or Melbourne.It has a really low crime rate.I do not have any kids yet but I would raise them here. I am sure you will find a good place :)
3. Avoid Orlando and it's suburbs...what you're reading is accurate. My Mom lives in Lake Mary and it's really gotten worse over the last several years. The schools aren't as good as they used to be either. I would suggest Martin County, about 40 minutes north of West Palm Beach. The school district here is A+ rated and there is a good economy in terms of jobs. It's an easy commute to West Palm Beach. The area has been among the fastest growing in the US for awhile. Martin County High School, Jupiter Community High School and Jensen Beach High School are terrific A+ rated high schools. The feeder schools (elementary and junior high are just as good). There isn't any organized gang activity here in Central Martin County and think you'll find it a refreshing change. The cities of Stuart, Jupiter and Jensen Beach are affordable, nice places to raise a family. I attached some links to apartments, schools and city information. Good luck!
4. Most every city has a crime problem some are more noted than others. Orlando is a good city and has exceptionally good protection.But there are sections that have less than honrable persons living in these parts of the city.
