Can someone tell me about South Dallas?

I am looking for apartments in South Dallas. I wanted to know where are the safest, and nice apartments are. When I say safe I mean somewhere you wouldnt mind your mother or sister living. My price range is $500-$600. Please feel free to give me some names of different apartment complex. PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME ABOUT RENT.COM, APARTMENT.COM, APARTMENT RATINGS, ETC. I WANT TO HEAR PLACES YOU HAVE LIVED OR WOULD LIKE TO LIVE. I REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE IT.

1. Well, I live in the Rockwall area, which is a very nice area. [I live in a house though] but my oldest brother has a nice duplex out a little close to Garland, and he used to have an apartment near it, too. I would suggest looking in or around Garland, but the places that don't look dangerous. It's weird, you'll be in kind of a creepy place at one point, go a little down the street, then it's REALLY nice. They even live next door to a 20-something year old girl living by herself. If she can do that, this place must be safe. Sorry I don't know the exact area, but I'd say around Garland or Rockwall.....do NOT do Mesquite!
