I am a young woman going to be living/working in DC soon, close to George Washington University.?

I am going to be living in DC soon. I am totally frustrated trying to find a reliable apartment online but every one I look up has negative ratings listed on www.apartmentratings.com. I don't want to live in a bug infested, maintenance problem place. Please, please give me suggestions of apartments that are safe, within walking distance to a metro, and do not have bugs and hotwater problems.

  1. Take a look in Arlington, The Orange line goes right through Arlington. Most housing in Arlington, although fairly expensive, is clean and safe. Plus, Arlington has a very large, young singles population, with plenty of bars and trendy stores. If you're willing to have an apartment-mate, check out the Oakwood complex in Falls Church, Virginia, one mile from the East Falls Church Metro station. Unless things have changed, they keep a room-mate book in their office, of people looking to share apartments. The rent, even sharing a place, will be high, but it would at least let you get settled in the area.
  2. i will suggest u visit so u can see what u are buying. there are plenty of good apartments in and around Georgetown in DC. U can also check out places like Arlington, VA,Alexandria MD,Bethesda, Rockville MD, Cheve Chase MD. Good luck
  3. What's your budget? That will make a huge difference! Depending on how much you are willing to pay/can afford will determine where you will be able to live. As someone suggested, try looking in Arlington. My husband lived in Ballston a block from the Metro and it was a great place to live. It's cheaper than the district, but still can be pricey. (He paid $1800/month for a 1 bedroom) Try craigslist and look for roommates or sublets too.
