A disc jockey must play 12 commerical spots during a one hour radio show. Each commerical is wither 30 seconds or 60 seconds long. If the total commerical time is 1 hour and 8 minutes, how many 30 seconds commericals were play in that hour? How many 60 second commericals?

- There's a problem with the wording here. How is there 1 hour and 8 minutes of commercial time in a one hour show? On the off-chance that there are really only 8 minutes of commercials aired in that one hour show, we can calculate a the number of 30sec spots and b the number of 60sec spots played. a = 12 - b (total number of spots is 12) 0.5a + b = 8, or a + 2b = 16. but since a = 12 - b, we have (12 - b) + 2b = 16 b = 4, a = 8 4 60sec spots + 8 30sec spots = 8 minutes of commercial time in 12 commercial spots.
