Can an international college student rent an apartment under his name?

Hi, I will be going to college in january as an international student and I heard that non us residents cant rent apartments...I just want to know if this is true and if so how can I rent an apartment as a non us resident. Hey Thanks, I do have a passport, US visa...etc. I just wanted to clear this off my mind cuz i was confused.

  1. No that is not true. Do you have a passport and verifiable income? If you meet the qualifying criteria set by the managment you can get an apartment.
  2. As long as your visa is good, contact the college that you will be attending. College towns are usually short on apartments, but they might be able to send you a list of available units. They will know if your visa status will allow you to live off campus. (I'm sure that using your own name is preferred when renting an apartment!) If someone refuses to rent to you, because of your international status, contact fair housing. PS I hope you enjoy your stay, welcome to the USA!
