How big are the houses for On Base Housing for Army duty stations for a 3 person family?
I'm being released from the National Guard and going active duty Army, and I'm wondering how big the houses are on base for on base housing. I have a wife and a daughter and 2 basset hounds.

- My daughter and son in law have a nice two bedroom, about 1000sf. nice
- Two or three bedroom, two bath, living room, dining room, kitchen. Maybe 800 - 1000 square feet.
- If you know what base you are going to you can look at this site and see the floor plans on some of the housing. You will be eligible for a two bedroom. https://onestop.army.mil/ Keep in mind some of those pictures are out of date and lots of new housing has been built on some of the bases. You will sign in to housing expect a waiting list. It can be anywhere from a few weeks to almost a year.
- over 1000 sq. depends on which part you live in--- they have different housing units -- look up the base online and the housing- they should have pics or layouts of the places.
- Depends on where you are going. When I was Fort Rucker the smallest they had was a 1400ft 3-bedroom, which was fine for my family. When I moved to Fort Campbell I was put into a 990ft 2-bedroom which was incredibly small. When you find out where you are going to be station do some online research. They should have a housing section on the website that has dimensions and layout. If they have a 2-bedroom, that is what you'll be authorized.
- It will depend on your rank, time in, what is available and the wait list. You can luck out and get a huge place but it could be a smaller place even if you have been in forever. Since you have a wife and daughter all will be well. One place might seem a bit cramped but you deal with it. The next post you go to might be better. That is the deal with military life.
- depends on the duty station, your paygrade and what is available. technically you only qualify for a 2 BR..and if all they offer you is a 2BR apartment.. the dogs can't come.
