When do you think the housing market will start to pick up again?

my goal is to buy a house around december, but if the housing market is still on it's way down from that point, i should wait to get the best price. what's your advice? when should i buy? thanks.

1. Keep on looking. If you see something with a huge yard or a fantastic view, or anything that makes the house fantastic for you, make an offer. Just be sure not to offer full price and ask the seller to pay for as much of your costs as possible. Real estate is not a short term investment. Just make sure you like your payment.
2. No any time in the near future. Predictions are not until 2009 in the in-term prices will continue to fall. If you are looking and do find one then have your agent run some comps and put your offer on paper. I certainly would ask for ALL of the closing costs. Virtually no homes at this time are going at asking price.
3. It depends on where you are. In Texas the market is just now starting to slow down. If you plan on buying in December, I would follow that plan. Waiting for the perfect price will change your life for a few hundreds or thousand dollars. I don't think that is worth it. Stick with your plan as I am sure you have put some thought into it.
